Pernell McPhee is Impressive (Preseason Week 2)

107 posts in this topic

I think the mods can remove the "preseason week 2" from the title. Pernell McPhee is impressive should be enough at this point. Love the guy.

This kid has impressive drive and the way he uses his hands to shed of the blocker is better than some of our starters and that's why he is constantly in the back field. I can't wait to see this kid against some better talent because he is dominating the back ups. He is the one youngster that I think I am the most excited about. Other young guys have impressed as well but this guy strikes me as a kid that could really make a difference and I hope he gets a chance to contribute this year with starters around him because that could be the key factor in his growth.

I saw in the box score he logged another sack against the Redskins. Could anyone describe the play?

I believe it was just a bull rush with the QB leaking to the left. McPhee just out muscled his blocker!!

Nice. He'll muscle o-lineman even more after he's gone through a full off-season in an NFL weight room.

Should McPhee get a chance to start and take over LE from Redding and Jones?
I think he'll get some rotation from the starters in week 1. If he stands out against Pitts, he'll get more snaps in the regular season. I love the kid though. His pass rush skills and strength are astounding....

I think we'll see him against first team against the Falcons. I can't wait to see how he's up against the Falcons Oline, great task.

I can see spelling them in pass rushing situations, but he's too small be an every-down 3-4 DE at this point.

After just looking at the game, I feel Redding made a strong case to keep his job . McPhee is looking like a stud no doubt but Redding is showing his playmaking abilities also. So much for cutting Redding, he's playing pretty good. Rotation should be perfect with the two though keeping them fresh and full of energy on every snap.

Agreed. I don't understand why people want to cut Redding, because McPhee is playing well. They should just be happy we have 2 players at one position that we can rotate, keeping both men fresh.

I don't get it at all.

It is mind baffling. I saw some people yesterday saying to cut Zibby because Pollard was outplaying him. Why? Keep both and use their strengths in situations. Same goes for all of our positions

Well if you think about it, he has a chance, he's technically had the chance since he was drafted. It's up to him to earn it. He's on the roster, and getting playtime, thats as much a chance as the coaches need to give him, the rest is on him.

I really like this guy, we're gonna have a rediculously good rotation of DL this season. Between Suggs, Kruger, JJ, Kindle, Ngata, Redding, Jones, and McPhee we are absolutely stacked at OLB/DL. We're going to have a sick pass rush. I think we have a chance to get 60 sacks this season.

I can't say he's too small, Justin Smith is a great 3-4 DE, and is listed at only 285. That's only 5 more pounds than McPhee.
