Your Thoughts On This Week's O-Line Performance Vs. Last Week?

67 posts in this topic

I think most of us can agree that the D looked pretty solid tonight, with the exception of some rookie mistakes. No big deal. Having said that, the O-line still stinks. But, how do you think they stack up against THEMSELVES? That is, do you think they look better or worse (or no change, perhaps) from last weeks performance? Also, do you think that Joe's overthrowing is an issue with the substance of our line, or is an internal problem all his own? Thanks for you comments.

The overthrowing isn't an issue. This was the first time it happened, so I have no reason to believe it will suddenly stick.

Let's hope so. I can't say I've never seen Joe NOT over throw before, because he certainly has. I just hope it isn't developing into an issue. We'll see what he dishes out next week. Then again, does it really matter? If he gets hit again like he did tonight because of poor protection, we may find ourselves depending on a rookie this season. I sure hope they find some remedy for this O-line situation.

Much better than last week, but still not up to par. Jah Reid didn't shine at T, but I thought he was adequate enough to start if need be. Mattison actually isn't too bad at C, but still would rather have a back up. Cousins looks much more suited to G than T. He still made mistakes, but much much better than last week. I actually think Harewood looks really good at LT, although he is blocking back-ups. Boren looks like a gem to be honest. Really don't have any huge complaints. I'd like to see the line out there with Yanda in place of Cousins.

Thanks for the comments. Good points, too. I'll be glad when Yanda and Birk come back. Hopefully by then Oher will have shook the rust off and our line will be solid enough to give Joe the protection he both deserves and needs right now.

Yeah they still have a lot of work to do, but I still like this week much more than last week. Having Birk and Yanda back, with Reid at RT rather than Cousins shouldn't be too bad. I'd still like a couple veterans, one at T and one at C, but otherwise, it doesn't look to be as huge of an issue as it was last week in my opinion.

On two long overthrows, Boldin looked slow getting down the field. In fact, on one it looked to me like he was being held. We had a big discussion at the time and decided that we couldn't tell if Joe was overthrowing, throwing the ball away, or Boldin didn't complete the route. Without knowing exactly what the play was supposed to be, we can't tell.

I thought the o-line looked a little better, but not nearly good enough. Joe was scrambling around to avoid the sack and still got drilled way too many times.

One improvement we noticed in Joe's game was that while scrambling, he was keeping his eyes downfield looking for an open receiver.

I'll be able to answer this question better after re-watching the game, but I think the oline played much better this week.

I think the timing of the running game was much better, I think the protection was solid, and despite the false starts by Oher and Cousins, the mental part of the game was better.

I think Flacco's accuracy issues tonite made things not look at crisp offensively, but I was really impressed with Mattison, Cousins and Reid on the right side.

Mattison is really doing a nice job.  I would've never thunk.  Harewood being fresh also look like a physical beast.  There is potential.  But we need these guys to be grizzled vets in two weeks.

I'm going to watch the game on TV now since I was at the stadium, but it seemed to me that Joe was only having accuracy issues when throwing to Q.

No, that wasn't the case at all.

Joe missed Torrey Smith wide open on a crossing route. That would have been a huge play.

He missed Dickson

His sideline pass to Evans was off target, but Evans bailed him out.

Joe really struggled tonight imo.

I thought Joe was off in general. In fact the only receiver he seemed to be on time with was Evans which is weird since Evans is new to the team. Not Joe's best game. I thought the o-line gave him enough time and Joe just was inaccurate tonight.

No complaints at all on the offensive line. Reid had his breakdowns, but thats to be expected. he did a good job. Run blocking was never an issue, we ran the ball at ease. Pass pro will get better with time and experience. Where are the Oher haters? :P

Okay, the game is starting now on NFL Network. I'll keep an eye out. Perspecrive is totally different from the stadium because you're warching so much more than just the ball.

A lot better than last week considering we had Cousins out there still and Yanda was missing. Jah Reid seemed to play fairly well and I don't think I heard Tamba Hali's name mentioned once all night. That's always a good sign when you can keep the guy with thte 2nd most sacks in the NFL last year is kept quiet (Hali).

Joe looked lost in couple plays that he pumped fake and ended up dropping the ball. He needs to make the decision quick, and he was hesitant too much. I guess he wasn't confident to throw the ball.

They looked pretty good to me. Oher played a lot better at LT and Reid looked good too. I think we still need to sign a veteran RT, but Reid will be our RT soon enough. Joe had some time in the pocket to throw unlike last week. Overall it definitely was better, but that doesn't mean we don't need to sign some veteran O line help.

I think we should go for a healthy center. Reid I believe will be our answer at RT. Idk about week 1, but definetely the future. Ozzie traded up for him for a reason. But I think it looked good overall for the circumstances. Oher kinda made me mad with his false start though I hope he can correct it.

i'm not worried about joe, but the o-line looked a lot better. I think eevryone played better even oher. He was great on the run and he looked fine on pass protection, but still isn't perfect. Reid looked a lot better from last week. He seems to be improving as the week goes on and thats a good sign. Cousins looks a lot better at the guard.

I think the o-line had a lot better effort this week than last week. I expect them to keep improving every week

Todd Haley is whining that we ran up the score, he was whining to harbaugh at the end of the game on the field.
[/quote]

Geez not again. Its the PS. You have to reward the young guys who have been working hard at TC. If he doesn't like it, make a better team. This is the NFL not little league. He's still sore about the playoff loss.

Yea i agree,

I don't think Joe's throwing is an issue at all, I just think people would have felt better about the oline, if Flacco would have completeled more passes and got a few into the endzone.

Idk why people are saying Joe played so bad...while he did miss a few passes he looked cool calm and collected in the pocket for the most part even while the o-line was collapsing. I think Joe will have a breakout season now that he has a legit deep threat in Lee Evans. Also Torrey Smith has potential but I think the WR who will step up and surprise everyone if given the chance is David Reed, he can move and he has very good hands.
