Looking Ahead To Ravens Out Of Contract At The End Of This Season

26 posts in this topic

Assuming we wrap up the ngata deal this year and save that 6/7 mil cap space, add that to the 2.5 mil Jason La Confora reported we have, well have anything from 8-10 mill free.

Now obviously well use some of that on depth positions, but with all the additions we should have around $5mil left.. Why waste this?

We have some notable free agents next year, such as grubbs, rice, webb, zibby, kindle, jj and birk (both priobably realesed/retired), flacco might get paid and of course the no.1 priorty Oneill Cousins needs locked down with joe thomas type money or we could lose him to another contender.

So with this cap why not re do someones contract, like rice or even flacco now? im anticipating one of them will have a massive year and with that massive year comes massive demand and money, so why not do it now, take a hit in the cap this year when its there and of course maybe get them on the cheap as neither really had that "pay me or ill get whatever i want eleswhere" kind of season which one probably will next year.

Its this kind of cap management that helped the Eagles make all the acqusistions they did, or FO should be on the ball and get some of these notable Free agents locked up now incase we cant afford them all next year. Id be devasted if our franshise QB/RB left or most importantly the one man that can lock down flaccos blindside oneill cousins.

Thoughts?

LOL, obviously a joke, my man.

To the topic, I think we'll be okay. As you said, Birk will probably retire. JJ's contract will probably be re-structured or he will be cut - same with Foxworth if they don't play up to it. Grubbs, Rice, and Flacco will be the big hurdles but, if Ozzie wants to keep them, they'll be here.

LOL yes, I don't think my sarcasm has ever been picked up on this site since I started posting here... certainly "on edge" would be a good way to put it.

Of that list I envisage Birk being the only one who doesn't return as I think this is certainly his last year in the NFL. I believe JJ will return on a one year deal depending on how Kruger and Kindle turn out this year. Kindle should be given a longer deal if he can stay healthy and trouble-free this year.

Rice and Grubbs will be the big money players we need to keep hold of next offseason, like Ngata and Yanda were this year. I hope they both stay here as both are integral parts of our offense.

I think Joe gets extended sometime sooner rather than later but it won't be during this coming season IMO.

joe only has 2 years left so its either next year or in his FA year so there isnt much choice. i just think if we have spare cap, use it and sign one or two of these, no point risking losing them to someone like the cheifs who will have millions to overspend on big name free agents

Btw, if we had 5mil cap space free, does this carry over to next year to give us an aditional 5m on top of the league limits? edit stupid question becuase then them teams with 20mil cap space left would have an extra 20 mil to play with, i cant see the league allowing that.

I meant that Joe's deal will come secondary to Grubbs and Rice as both of those will be UFAs after this coming season and I would imagine that would make them a more urgent priority than Joe who we have under contract for another year.

Joe Flacco will get his money, no doubt about it

Ray Rice is staying around too, Grubbs is someone they wouldnt want to keep but he might be a cap casualty, depends on how high the cap rises next year, Webb will stay, Kindle will stay if he's productive, I'm sure we have his rights or something, some clause in his contract so we dont lose a draft pick after a head injury and 1 year

Having your Franchise QB and RB's contract be up at the same time is not going to be good because in case of a hold out you have Tyrod Taylor handing the ball off to Ricky Williams and Jalen Parmele in training camp. Grubbs even needs to get some of that money as well. It's gonna be tricky and I'm sure Ozzie has some people already crunching numbers on that as we speak. Those 3 our probably our Top 5 Players on Offense.

I hope he's locked down, but he's gonna kill our cap. Grubbs, Rice, and Flacco are three players absolutely essential to our offense, and they all need to be locked down.

There's going to be a lot of contracts and a lot of headaches next year. But the bossman will take care of business like he always does. I just wish they would take care of Ngata this year so we don't have to deal with it next.

NOTE: I don't think signing people will be as difficult because I think there are a couple of vets that will retire once we win the super bowl this year so we will have a little more cap room to sign them

Ray Rice should be priority #1, he already in his contract year NOW. Speaking of Ray, I absolutely love the fact that as far as we all have heard he is keeping his head down and working hard to let his play determine his next contract, instead of, ya know, holding out like some other players...
It will be interesting to see how Ozzie handles all of these guys because most of them we'd ideally have back.

And I do believe Kindle will count as an exclusive rights free agent after the two one year deals he has signed due to his stairway incident, which means no other team can even attempt to take him from us unless we flat out don't want him (don't see that happening, regardless of the type of season he has).

If I'm correct Ray Lewis' contract end this season doesn't it? That should free up cap space to sign Rice and others to long term deals.

I believe that is incorrect 3/10/2009: Signed a three-year, $22 million contract. The deal contains $15.5 million guaranteed, including a $6.25 million signing bonus, a first-year roster bonus of $2.75 million, and a $1.25 million option bonus in the second season. 2011: $4.5 million (+ $2 million option bonus), 2012: $4.95 million (Voidable Years), 2013: $5.4 million, 2014: $5.85 million, 2015: $6.3 million, 2016: Free Agent

Um okay his contract is confusing lol! Because technically his contract would be up at the end of this coming season.

Yeah, I didn't even see that it said 3 years. I originally remembering hearing that it was structured over 7 years for cap purposes, but I guess additional years are options. Definitely a good point for discussion if someone can shed some more light....

He actually signed a 7-year contract in a way, although it's advertised as 3 years. I don't know why that is, but the last 4 seasons on his contract are voidable by the team.

He needs to keep those 3, their staples of our young offense. Grubbs and Yanda are our best lineman, so I expect Grubbs to be given similar money to Yanda. If we let Flacco or Rice go we might as well just overhaul the whole team Bengals style and go for a top 5 pick the next year. My own opinion with the emergence of Kindle/Kruger, JJ will be let go of next year or long shot chance (which I hope because JJ is what you want in a football player) asked to lose weight to move inside.
