If ravens signed ohara to a 2/3 year contract it would really help out our oline not just this year but for the length of his contract. he is starting caliber and could hold down that slot after birk is gone (assuming this is his last yr). It means he can groowm, mattison or bartholemew, or it means we just dont have to rush into drafting a centre this year when we may have more pressing needs such as the possiblity of ray and ed retiring or maybe RT if reid doesnt work out. It would give us great depth this year with him and birk and then just give us an extra year to find a long term solution.

How bad would it be if birk reed and ray all went at the end of this year, it is a possibilty so i think if we can, sign ohara to a 2/3 deal and thats a one position that we dont have to worry to much about just yet.

In saying all this, its not a concrete source that we have shown interest in him, in fact we probably havent but i would like to see the move

I wouldn't be against it but I think tackle is the biggest concern. Birk may be coming back from injury but at least we know what we have with him when he does come back. Right tackle is a total question mark right now.

no chance of ohara being able to play guard when birk back, let yanda play tackle? kill two birds with one stone, fix RT with yanda, add deoth at g/c with ohara, let reid learn then put him in mid season?

Moving Yanda to RT is an option but I think it's a last resort. A lot will depend on how much we can afford to pay. Reports are we have between 2.5 and 2.8 million in cap space. A guard should come cheaper so maybe you're on to something.

I really want Yanda to just be RG. Not RT.
yea i think we all do, but if its better for the team to get a guard and shift yanda across for a few games to reid settles in, i think we could live with that. ultimately reid needs to step up and take that roll, or else we go after a tackle in the early rounds of the draft next year, be it RT or LT and move oher back to RT or.

but back to topic, obviously RT is a bigger need than C, but after this yr we will need a C, why not pick up a quailty vet than can start for a year or two so were not under pressure to use a draft pick on a centre this year when we could need a MLB, SS (if they retire) and Tackle (if reid doesnt pan out) to come in and start from Day 1.

If CAP alows it, i think it would be a smart move for the next year or two, more than just this season.

RT is more important. If we can sacrifice at RG for more stability at RT, then we have to do it.

Well Mr. B said on his conference call that he wants Ngata signed soon so we can focus on adding a veteran OLineman. Maybe O'hara is the guy waiting in the wings.

I think between Mattison and Barnes/Bartholomew we can survive at center. We need Yanda at RG. We need some exp at RT.

Joe was sacked 2nd most last year. A makeshift line is not in our best interest.

I believe in Jah, but he still needs time and practice.

Bryan Mattison was playing center with the starters in the first preseason game. Unless Tim Barnes or Ryan Bartholomew prove to be better than Mattison and starting quality, then Mattison will be starting if Birk doesnt heal up soon. I would be all for adding O'Hara, but only after Barnes and Bartholomew get their chance and don't show that they are ready to start.

God I hope they'll sign him. I just don't believe that Birk will be able to play an entire season on that knee. Shaun o'hara is a vet who can play right away and he has the experience to make all the calls, which would help our young guys out on the line.

Resign Ngata to a long term contract and restructure Foxworth's contract ot flat out cut him. Then we'll have cap room for the positions we really need.

Ya I wouldn't look to much into that article, it really didn't say much other than we kicked tires on O'Hara, but that's pretty obvious considering our O-Line situation. Ozzie will make some moves before 9/11 we just need to be patient and wait for the Ngata deal to get finished so we can see what he decides to do.

I'm certain Ozzie has a list of FA prospects, but there isn't much we can do until Ngata is signed on.

Wouldn't be smart to cut Foxworth imo. Cutting him won't give us much cap room, plus that would hurt our CB depth.

Agreed
Releasing Foxworth would open up just over $4M in cap space ($4.4M in savings from his release less $375M for his replacement under the rule of 51). But, releasing him now would cause them to have to carry $3M in dead money against the 2012 Cap. Then again, that $3M is going to count next year no matter what, so the decision to release him now is really a matter of how much they feel he can help the team this year versus having the $4.4M in Cap space to use elsewhere.

Highly unlikely they cut Foxworth.

There are other options to free up CAP space if need be. I'm not even sure if the Ngata deal gets done this offseason.

More of that arrogance from Harbaugh, as long as a player is loyal to him and his methods he will keep giving them chances no matter how bad they are or what state they're in. If Mattison has to start against Casey Hampton and Reid/Cousins against Woodley I'm going to bring a white towel to throw onto the field so Flacco can live to fight another day.

Just curious as I'm not knowledgeable in this area, what are those options? I know we can restructure and cut.

Those are pretty much the only options as we've already borrowed from future CAP space. When I said options, I was insinuating cuts. There are a few guys who's CAP hits are greater than their value. If the right opportunity presents itself, they could make some moves.

Signing Ngata would be ideal, but it seems both sides aren't willing to give up leverage for timing.

Just curious.. Where did you read that we borrowed from future cap already? I was wondering because I read today that we haven't, per Aaron Wilson.

Just from a bunch of random places. I'd much rather take Aaron's words. That is good news if its true. I still don't fully understand because I think there is some sort of 3M vet rule and there is the ability to borrow 3M from future CAP space.

I looked back, I was wrong, it was Dan Kolko from MASN, not Aaron Wilson.

I haven't heard two people throw out the same cap figures at all. I guess it's all speculation.

Each team gets "reallocation credits" from the last capped year, 2009, of up to $3M if they didn't use their full cap in that year. And then of course the $3M they can "borrower" against next years cap.

It seems to be a very misunderstood thing. A little agreement would be nice.

Nfl.com posted a blog about the current cap space by team. That should be reliable. We have around the same cap as the Steelers and I thought the Steelers used the 3M.

But who knows.

You know what makes me really curious. How did Philly pull of these trades with 5-6 marquee players like Nmadi, etc... and still have Mike Vick on a franchise tag of 16.5M? If theywere able to do it I am sure the Ravens can find creative ways to create space too... so I am not too concerned about it. I think if we find somebody that is important for us, we will figure out a way to sign him!
