Redding Or Jones

Now I completely disagree with that oppinion and I'm not sure how he can make that assumption based on the limited time that he's seen Art in action, but that seems to be what he was trying to say.

neither of them are really impressive. we need playmakers. his more like jamael mcclain. few tackles here, few coverage there..nothing special.

How many "playmakers" have there been from the 3-4 DE spot? Bruce Smith and Reggie White? Pretty much the most you could ask for would be a consistent guy who makes a few tackles a game and maybe a handful of sacks on the year - ala Aaron Smith - mostly, the 3-4 end is there to hold his ground in the running game and occupy blockers for the linebackers.

Redding played well the second half of the season and I expect him to start but Jones will get his opportunities I believe. To be honest I want Redding to start just because hes proven. When Jones starts producing on the field I wont be surprised if he takes Reddings spot. Hes gonna have to earn it on the field.

I'm 50:50 on who should start Redding or Jones. The "proven" player vs the young upstart player. I do believe Jones may become the starter with time. I don't agree with a couple of guys who said the will be rotated extensively... I hope they are, but last season I feel it was a significant coaching weakness, in that the D line WAS NOT rotated, and became tired in the 4th quarter, and eventually losing games, that we had the lead in. Whom ever starts is fine...we have to do a better job this season of keeping these BIG guys fresh.

I don't think it's been mentioned but Redding had a great game last night, showed good pass rush and was tough against the run. The Skins appear to have a very strong O-Line and Redding made more of an impact than any of our other DL. I definitely think Redding starts week 1. But of course Jones will start to see snaps in rotation and hopefully prove that he can be a starter midway through the season.

I agree, Redding had a great game against the Skins and if he continues to bring that to the table which I feel he will, then that ends this discussion. A rotation of him, Jones, and McPhee should be great though.

I think the coaches will stick with Redding because they like known commodities and players they can trust, Redding is a veteran and proven whereas Art Jones hasnt played enough and established himself..I think he will get some playing time when guys come in and out, and if he can make plays and be productive he could win the job during the season

A rotation of Ngata, Redding, Jones, and McPhee should be lethal for us, while keeping everyone fresh for the long-haul.

Redding by far, and depending on next off-season and Redding's contract status, Jones & McPhee can battle it out for LE next off-season. Of course I wouldn't be against extending Redding either.

Experience of redding vs. the potential of Jones.... Redding
[/quote]

i think you can say its Redding right now...but with more experience it will be Jones for sure

After the game last night it's a tough call... It's really experience v.s. potential right here. Personally, I'd made the Belichick move and start Jones. I wouldn't mind seeing Redding start the year, and Jones finish the season as the starter. Either way, I'll be happy. Either way, they're both gonna mess teams up.

I think redding is going to be rotated out for jones as the year goes on. Were in the last year of reddings contract and I believe he was brought in to be a stopgap for jones. I have high expectations for Jones, he was really highly rated coming out of college and a rotation of ngata, Cody, jones, kruger, McPhee, and Suggs on the line sounds ridiculous.

Your not making any sense..... Art Jones is good pass rusher... if you look at his college stats he was pretty darn good! And jameel mcclain has nothing to do with Art Jones!!

Rotate and keep them fresh. But corey should be the starter. Jones and McPhee should both get PT and then take it from there. If one overly impresses in their PT, start them.

I think Redding brings a full year of experience to bear, so I think it should be him starting. However, I also believe that Art Jones is playing great and should play a good amount of snaps in relief....

Yeah... Art Jones's stats were pretty darn good. How many sacks did he get? Sure, he got a lotta tackles and TFLs, but very few sacks. While sacks dont tell the whole story, his stats themselves were not that impressive. Of course, I think Jones is a solid inside pass rusher.

His point about Jameel McClain does make sense. Neither will be a playmaker a la Ed Reed, but are consistent, "do your job" players a la Jarret Johnson. Neither make plays, but are consistent players in their role. They do their job, and nothing more.

Although, I think they both have a playmaking ability. McClain made a couple plays his rookie year, while Jones has been involved in a couple this preseason.
