Redding Or Jones

54 posts in this topic

From everything I saw of Redding last year, heard about Jones during the lockout, and saw of Jones in the first preseason game, it's Jones starting by a mile. I think he's better than Redding already plus there is upside with Jones.

Seriously, did anybody watch the games last year ??? Redding made a lot of plays for us and, the batted int, the fumble rec for td and was actually a decent pass rusher and causing them to step up in the pocket where ngata got them.

That being said I love art jones and his potential even more so, his conditioning being through the roof is great, and will serve him well int eh rotation.

AS fo now it has got to be Cory Redding because he has actually produced on the field.

Arthur Jones. Redding is good, but I think overall it's time for to let our young players play and see what they can do. Jones as the ability to become a solid 3-4 LE and I think he could be a major contributor for us if he is to start.

If Redding wants to stay as a backup, our depth at DE would be solid with McPhee also doing well.

Redding is a solid player, but I'm not sure hes starter material. I'd like to see what Jones can do.

Keep rotating them

I think that's pretty much a given for most d-lines around the league. Except for probably Ngata, all our d-line will rotate in and out a lot.

I think Redding gets a much worse rap than he should. He really started to do well the second half of the season. This was his first year with the team and it takes time to get in sync. That said, I am really excited to see what Jones and McPhee can bring to the DE position this year. Who ever is the starter, it is looking like we will have some quality depth on that Dline this year.

Ravens D is like 25 man football. We sub in sooooo many guys it doesn't really matter who starts. In my opinion Start either of them because they're both capable, and capable of dominating that position, However Art Jones is looking promising (As I've been saying since the day we drafted him)

We have great depth on the D-line. We will see a lot of rotation this year at NT and DE. McKinney is a very solid backup at NT. Our DE position is stacked. I expect Jones to see a lot of playing time this year and ultimately more snaps than Redding, but Redding will "start"

I am very excited to see Jones' pass rush potential become a factor this year. He looked very quick in the first preseason game. McPhee will see a majority of his snaps on passing downs, and I hope he forces his way into an impactful role as the season progresses.

I think Redding will be the starter because of his strong play towards the end of last season. I don't neccessarily think he is a better player than Art because I think we would have cut Redding if the FO thought so, but Art played very well on thursday and he was projected to be a first rounder that fell to the 5th round because he missed his enter senior season with an injury. Art will get a lot of playing time this season regardless and next year it will be a battle between him and Pernell Mcphee for the starting role! I'm pretty pumped about our pass rush this year with all of our promising youngsters!

Redding is exactly what I thought he would be...the second coming of Anthony Weaver. Bring back fond memories?Stop lying, no it doesn't!!!Let's see what Art can do.

agreed

I think we will see Redding and Jones a lot during the beginning of the season and maybe a bit of Mcphee towards the end if he keeps it up.

Redding has had good times in the past, and he came on very strong at the end of last season. That fumble recovery for a TD was the kind of heads up play you get from an experienced veteran, and not just anyone either, as we can tell by all the players standing around. He'll be the starter at the beginning of the season. However, we all know that the coaching staff wants to get younger, which means that Jones will get plenty of playing time and a real chance to win the job provided that he can perform when the games are for real.

I've been thinking the same thing about Redding and Anthony Weaver. Jones is much more explosive.

Corey Redding is a solid tackler and a good run stuffer. However, with the emergence of Terrance Cody as the starting NT the Ravens shouldn't have a problem with defending the run with him in the inside + Haloti Ngata on the other side. That's A LOT of weight to go through..

That's why I'd slowly rotate Art Jones into the LE spot with Corey Redding because he is a very good pass rushing prospect and could be someone who develops into that 3-4 pass rushing DE the Ravens need. I'd use him especially during 3rd down and passing situations so the Ravens defense can bring some push through the DL. With Ngata also working on improving his pass rush techniques you can create two bookend pass rushers that always bring the heat. By slowly bringing Art Jones in and getting reps he should gain experience to become a better pass rusher alongside a solid run stuffer as well.

Honestly, even though they are young, I would be fine with a rotation of Art and Pernell. Redding is just icing on the cake.

I dunno, but it's nice to have a discussion like this. Makes you feel especially good about our D-line depth.

Its good to see we will have a great rotation going at the D-line spot where our guys will be fresh playing so we can get their best effort. I say Redding and work Art and Pernell in ( I'm sure Pernell might see a little OLB in Pagano's scheme possibly ) often.

Jones!!! He's as good as Redding now, imo, and has more upside. A LOT more upside. I wanna see him start friday to get a stronger evaluation though, he played against scrubs alot last week. I wanna see what he does against starting offensive linemen.

I think we'll see a good rotation between the two of them and McPhee with Redding seeing less and less time as the year goes on. He was OK last year and got better as the year went on, but he's nothing more than a short-term position filler whereas hopefully Jones or McPhee or maybe both can contribute for us long into the future.

neither of them are really impressive. we need playmakers. his more like jamael mcclain. few tackles here, few coverage there..nothing special.

jones starting and rotating him out with mcphee and redding, that will keep that side of the line fresh and put pressure on the QB all night

Redding started off 2010 kinda slow, but as he adjusted to the defense, he really came on towards the end of the season and into the playoffs. Jones was a highly regarded DE in college but he got hurt and fell to the fifth where we were able to pick him up. He was a steal. I would start Jones, with Redding rotating in on 30-40% of the defensive snaps.

Rotate them so both are fresh...simple answer! Both are playing well, but Art is really bringing it this season... so I would start Redding but manage his snaps so he stays fresh. Let Art get a lot of snaps this season...

How does Jameel McClain factor into this conversation really? What kind of coverage to you expect D-tackles to make that are not named Haloti Ngata?

He was just saying that Art Jones is solid and gets the job done like Jameel McClain is as an ILB, but he and Jameel are not big time playmakers like say Asante Samuel is as a DB or Tamba Hali is as an DE/OLB.
