Does anybody think the ravens will or should go after the former Buffalo Bill, Aaron Maybin. He is an OLB/DE.
No.. why?

1. How do we pay him? we have very very little cap room after siging pollard and evans.
2. he has no career sacks and only 20 odd tackles. he is not an uograde over kruger/kindle/mcphee/jones etc that we have competing at olb/de.
3. we have more vital needs on this team than an olb/de such as centre/guard/tackle, they come first now

Not only that but he is a Baltimore native and a friend of mine from my PSU days who loves the Ravens. However, we are suddenly deep at the DE/OLB spot.

I'd love to see a local kid get the chance, he has un deniable pass rush ability but is a non-factor in coverage and is too light to be play on the D Line right now, he would have to be an OLB.

Aaron Maybin has never produced and hasn't lived up to his high draft status at all. If we could pick him up for the bare minimum and perhaps Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs can get his career on track; because I am pretty he uses performance-enhancing drugs.

If we add anything else to this team it needs to be OL.
What he said. Maybin wouldn't add anything to this team, or any team in fact. The Bills released him for good reason: he's a bust, plain and simple.

My brother and I were just laughing at how Maybin vs Oneill Cousins would be the most pathetic matchup ever....a pass rusher who cant pass rush verse a OT who cant block.Moral of the story is Maybin sucks.

1. He would come very cheap because we would sign him to a new contract (likely a minimum)
2. Yes but he was picked in the 2009 draft so he's still young and he has a lot of potential still
3. We do have more pressing needs, but we probably won't be signing O-Line depth for the veteran minimum so that means we would likely have to wait for the Ngata deal to get done anyways

Before the Philly game we were very concerned with where the pash rush would come opposite Suggs put after 1 good game we already believe that those issues are solved. They may very well be, but it wouldn't hurt to add a pash rushing specialist to an aggresive defensive system. Our system is much better coached and he has a lot more talent around him which could also help him to suceed and reach his potential.

It's just an idea and I think if we could sign him for cheap enough then we should take a flier on him and worst comes to worst, we cut him before the season starts and we don't lose very much. I just think it would be a low-risk high reward move.

a pass rushing specialist with no sacks?
We had this same converstaion with a certain ex jets 1st round pick who was considered a pass rush "specialist".. if the management thought they needed help or wanted to revive some ones career it would have been gholston because we had more questions at pass rush back then than we do now..

No, no freakin' way. From a PFT article on the release...
Maybin came into the league as a defensive end, but he showed up to training camp this year at 228 pounds. He was taken by the previous regime in Buffalo, and the new staff had no use for him in a 3-4 defense.
Some players in the secondary weigh as much as him. If the Bills can't use him at OLB or DE, how can we? Again, no... Such a promising player which so much upside turned into an absolute scrub...

The guy is a bum. He just doesn't have what it takes for the NFL. Don't think many teams will be knocking.

I doubt it. But you never know. Just don't see why we would waste a roster spot while he gets up to weight. Maybe next year during Traning camp we will give him a look.

He'll get picked up this year. We won't get a chance next year, but we don't need him.

It's not just one good game; Kruger, Kindle and McPhee have all been impressing all throughout training camp and the game against the Eagles just reinforced what everyone had been seeing this year on the practice field. Why bring on a project when we've got 1 former project earning more playing time and two projects-in-waiting?

He's a bust who couldn't even find his way on the woeful Bills. Why would we want him??

And besides, Maybin is a OLB not a MLB.

Maybe he played bad because he wanted to out of Buffalo... Remember they are a horrible team! And plus he is a fan of the Ravens!!!

I am a true believer that Buffalo has a history of misusing talent. But from the reports I have heard of Maybin, his makeup just doesn't translate to the NFL level.

Raji and Curry are worth their slots. In fact, I feel like this is the year Curry joins the elite OLB in the league (remember he is buried in no news Seattle).

Stafford has all the talent in the world, he was well worth the #1 pick. He just can't stay healthy. If he could put together 16 games, I think the Lions would be 2nd in NFC north.

Lastly, Scamchez is not very good, but has proven he knows how to win, or at the very least...NOT lose.

To the OP...

I actually wouldn't mind bringing Maybin in for a look, and here is why:

In football you can never have enough defensive backs, running backs, and pass rushers. If we could put him on a diet and get his weight up to 235/240 by mid-season he could be an excellent set of fresh legs.
NOTE: do not challenge the word "diet", it doesn't always infer losing weight. I already explain this at work to my clients all the time, "diet" is simply a controlled meal plan with the intent of achieving a certain means.

I honestly think PART of Maybin's problem is psychological. We are talking about one of the hottest recruits out of the D.C. region in the last decade, where he then went on to PSU and dominated. He was a fan favorite, and his extrinsic motivation was constantly fed by outside influences. I think once he arrived in Buffalo, the dead zone of the NFL, with its limited fan support, and lack of commercial success, he was not getting the attention necessary to perform!

Now, before we say he is a horrible person for needing attention to maximize performance, understand that about 65% of randomized pro athletes in a recent study listed external motivations as their top catalysts for effort.
These included: money, commercialization, fan favorites, association with best players

Now, compare to this someone such as Joe Flacco, or Ray Lewis (although it can be debated that early in his career he was more extrinsic then intrinsic)

Intrinsic players play for the sake of being the very best they can be, and for the acceptance among their PEERS, those who understand their fight.

Now, back to the point after athletic psychology 101,

Aaron Maybin needs to be somewhere where the light shines brighter, and he needs a successful team around him that make the games seem bigger, and the stakes higher. I would be willing to bet that if he landed in NE, PITT, PHIL, BALT, or any other MAJOR MARKET team NOT IN NY he would be much much more proven.

So he royally sabotaged his career in the off chance that he would be released and not traded and the Ravens would be interested? I think not.

A 228 lb hybrid defender who didn't fit in Buffalo's 4-3 OR 3-4 and whom many Buffalo fans seem to think is the biggest bust in their history, I think I'll pass...and I'm not worried because I know Ozzie will pass too.
