im saying this out of my own mouth. oher will be a great LT in this league. just because he struggled in the philly game doesn't mean anything..it was his first live action against another team as well as the other lineman. pay attention to the kansas city game and watch what he does. he's gonna bne great for us all year

Tamba Hali ran all over him last year in the playoffs. Hopefully this time is different.

I hope so. This will be his second year at the position. I'm rooting for him for sure, it's just frustrating knowing he's 100% better on the right side. OH WELL, he's the best tackle on our roster, its time to "put up or shut up."

For me, his weakness is his mentality, his mindframe. If someone gets into his head and forces him to make mistakes early then he tends to struggle for the rest of the game, be it by giving away penalties or pressures/sacks. If he can get settled early then he doesn't make as many faults. That's why having the year of experience under him will do him good.

I still think he'd probably be a better RT, but I do think he can have success at LT.

The first part of last year Oher was getting off the snap real quick and people were complaining that refs weren't catching it, they said they watched the film and he was doing nothing illegal. But for some reason they started calling it the other way and I think it made Oher think about it and messed him up a bit.

I'm hoping he just sticks to the technique and handles his business, Joe must be protected

I'm very disappointed in Oher and I'm just being honest. Even with him being young, he just doesn't show the consistency of the player we thought he was coming out of the draft. I think he let his own hype get to him a lil bit if that makes any sense with his amazing life story and all. I wish we could get someone in at LT so we could move him back at RT where he shows how dominant he can be. We got to fix the O-line and it starts and ends with both of our tackles.

You're trying to sugarcoat this issue. Oher has been abysmal against most and maybe every elite pass rusher that lines up at RE. It's not just Trent Cole. Hali destroyed him, John Abraham destroyed him, James Harrison destroyed him, Cameron Wake destroyed him. And we've seen him get destroyed this season in the very first game as well by another elite pass rusher (Cole). At this point Oher is an average LT. He does decent against anybody that is not considered great, but those that are really destroy him. And it seems like everybody, even the media, realizes that Oher is not a good LT and should be moved back to RT, the only guy that keeps telling himself after practice in interviews that Oher is a stud LT is Harbaugh.

But, at this point there's nothing we can do about it. We can't just make a top LT appear out of nowhere, we don't have anybody to start at LT and we can't trade or draft one right now. So we have to deal with Oher at LT, it's the best we've got. Ramon Harewood was supposed to start for us at LT or RT when Gaither got hurt, but then he went on IR himself.

James Harrison only had the better of him once, Oher actually held him to zero sacks against us in the regular season. It's just inconsistency that he struggles with.

I would also say that it's unfair to say he's "decent" against anyone not considered great. Aside of those that you mentioned, I really don't recall anyone troubling Oher. Once he's comfortable with himself I think he'll work out his problems.

I agree that he would be better at RT, but I think the outlook for him at LT is brighter than you think.

tamba Hali got mand handled in the second half, james harrison had no sacks the first 2 games and Cameron Wake had no sacks until he switched to the right side and man handled yanda. And with Trent Cole, that was a coverage sack, it was 4 seconds, when a Left Tackle can only do so much.

And ramon Harewood is no where near playing LT or Even RT, as he's a work in progress. He's third on the depth chart behind Jah and Cousins, dreadfully.

Well he hasn't played any elite pass rushers last season outside of those that I mentioned, and they all destroyed him. As for James Harrison, the only reason why he wasn't a bigger factor in those 2 games is that Oher had gotten help from Heap. Cam used Rice, McClain, McGahee and Heap especially to stop Woodley and Harrison. Let's not act like Oher finally turned elite for 2 games and shut Harrison down one on one. Heap had to stay next to him with one of the backs right behind them to stop Harrison.

I don't know if he'll ever be a good LT, so far however he hasn't played well at LT.

Cameron Wake had 1 sack, when he man handled yanda. And Gaither always got help against harrison, everyone does. No one's ever going to say "Wow Michael Oher absolutely shut down trent cole" when ben gurbbs gets beaten and Joe Gets hit after hitting Dennis Pitta. Check it out, he absolutely beasts him. And then Nnamdi Asomugha and Samuel shutdown our receiving core and trent cole trips up joe after he has to hold onto the ball for four seconds, which is more than oher can realistically be responsible for.

Oher gets beat, he needs consistency but right now he's pretty average.

I think its all mental with him. He no doubt has the skills to be a great Tackle, but he needs to not be affected if he does something wrong on the field or someone else taunting him and letting that lead to a penalty. That should come with age though.

I remember Hali didn't do quite as well against Yanda, but in the first half, he was all over Oher. But with Trent Cole, Oher allowed him to blow up I think two running plays.

It's unfortunate everyone, but Oher is the best we have at LT as we speak. I'm hoping we draft a LT as early as possible next year.

do you know how hard it is to find left tackles? Unless you want to draft someone and coach them up for 3 years, we're better off with oher.

Claiming that Oher shouldn't have needed help all the time against Harrison is unfair. It's not like Gaither didn't have help at times and even so doubling one of the best defenders in the league isn't a bad idea at times.

It's hard for fans to evaluate Left Tackles because you only call their names for negative things. Apart from the 2 sacks, Mike Handled Tamba Hali pretty well.

Oher will be a good LT, just not a great one. I do see pro bowls in his future. If you want him to be great though, move him to RT.

Did Oher even give up 2 sacks against Hali? I don't even recall that he did. IIRC, I read somewhere that he only gave up 7 sacks in the regular season, the same number as he did in his rookie season at RT. Like I've already said, his problem is a mental one, one which I expect him to solve with experience.

It's hard to isolate one person on the line because if there's pressure coming from somewhere else, it's easier to give up pressure/sacks yourself. Look at how many times a QB will step back to avoid the pass rush from the right only to walk into the pressure from the left.

Oher will be fine.

He got 2, one was a coverage sack the other was a strip sack. Both times oher held but but Hali got 2nd and 3rd efforts.

Listen, when you run the ball and don't have fast receivers, your QB is going to get sacked. plain and simple.

Ah ok, fair enough. Oher wasn't as bad in pass pro as Chester was in my opinion, but that's not to say that he didn't struggle.

If it's more than 3 seconds, that's on the QB and the receivers. It'd be nice if Mike could do what JO did and just take a guy ot of a play, but Mike gets us about 3 seconds, that's around what we need.

Oher would be better if he didn't have to worry about slowing his jump down, for fear of the refs flagging him incorrectly for a false start.

He held Dwight freakin Freeney to no sacks, and he's all of a sudden "abysmal"? that makes loads of sense. He held Harrison to ZERO sacks in the regular season. And if you break it down, two of Harrison's sacks were coverage sacks. Same with against Hali, coverage sacks. He did good against Jared Allen, aside from one fluky play. Abraham did not destroy him, either, from what I remember. The sacks from Cole, were coverage sacks, and one because Cousins made Flacco step up. MOST of Ohers sacks are the result of the other side breaking down , and from the inability of WRs to get open, like I've stated again and again.

That's a funny joke man, tell it again! Harewood was, and still is a project. I have no clue where you heard he was supposed to be the LT starter, cuz I've never heard that.

Actually, I think he'd be better if he did slow his jump down. His getoff is so fast it gives pass rushers more ground, and more momentum. Because he gives pass rushers more ground, its even easier for speed rushers to get around him, and bull rushers to go through him. When he's already fast off the ball, and a bull rusher gets inside of him, the DE will win, simply because Oher is going backwards too fast, and the DE is going forward.

If he slowed down his jump, he'd get less false starts, and he'd do better in pass pro.

Is that just an intuition of yours? Because I'm pretty sure you want as fast a jump as you can get. The idea that he's giving the rusher more momentum seems pretty silly.
