First Look: Sergio Kindle

30 posts in this topic

After watching the replay I got a chance to focus in on Sergio Kindle and was quite impressed by his first showing.

-Excellent accelerator and attacks the line as soon as the play starts

-Strength appears to be as a speed rusher as he gets around the lineman

-Moved well around the field and was constantly around the ball

-Has a good bull rush but wasn't really effective (will take time)

-Needs to learn to shoot through the gap and take down the QB/RB

-Has to improve zone coverage and reading the QBs eyes

He is very raw but you can definitely see the guy has a ton of talent and will need experience to develop. I see him being used as the same role Terrell Suggs was during his rookie year where he'd come in on 3rd down situations and go after the QB.

He's going to take time to be able to become a good all around OLB with defending the run and dropping back into coverage. They just have to unleash him in long passing situations and tell him to disrupt the LOS and rattle the QB.

He is a very good addition and fits in well with the other young defensive players who will contribute to the defense and hopefully become starters. I was highly impressed with the way Sergio Kindle, Paul Kruger, Art Jones, and Pernell McPhee were constantly attacking the OL. The Ravens have some very good young pass rushing prospects. That old mantra of "The Ravens defense is old" will soon be history!

One thing is for sure, If Kindle does end up struggling with rushing the passer all this season (which I doubt he will) he will always make a great Middle Linebacker. I was very impressed by his pursuit speed and how even with his injury he tackled with confidence.

I don't see Kindle ever becoming good in coverage. Then again I used to think the same of Suggs.I do think he will develop much faster than you may think. He's just getting his wheels back under him right now.

Good analysis. Right now I'm still at the point where I'm really happy to just see him healthy and able to play. Even if he has half the season Suggs did as a rookie I'll be happy for him and what he would have brought to the team.

its his first time in game action since college, give the guy some time, he's going to help our pass rush this year, coaches and players have been impressed with him so far during camp

Definitely impressed with Kindle... looks like hes gonna be a beast of a pass rusher. Like you said needs to develop in coverage and against the run a bit before becoming a 3 down player. Was also impressed with Kruger and Jones. All 3 were consistantly around the ball and getting into the backfield, but we need to wrap those tackles up. Missed quite a few which should have been sacks or TFL. Chalk it up to preseason rust hopefully.

Yeah it's too early to tell but if he follows Terrell Suggs path of becoming one of the most complete OLB in the NFL I will be highly satisfied.

Suggs was arguably the most talented player in his draft class. Hell he wouldn't have dropped all the way to the Ravens if it wasn't for his 40 time. Terrell was a great pass rushing prospect but was absolutely horrendous against the run and couldn't cover a lick. It took him a couple of years to develop and perfect his game. But that was fine because the Ravens still had a very good LB in Peter Boulware who was that mentor to help alongside the rookie Suggs and create a nice pass rushing tandem.

It's like a sense of déjà vu where Terrell Suggs is the mentor and Sergio Kindle is fitting into his role when he was a rookie.

Having a healthy Jarret Johnson will also be very good because than Kindle provides solid depth and has a chance to learn from two very good veteran LBs. I see him turning into a very nice WILL LB given his development and health are solid heading forward.

Kindle looked good for his first game. He looked pretty big to out there... bigger then I thought. From what I saw he was getting through the O line and penetrating the line. He just miss some tackles that really could have been sacks. Off topic but kruger was killing last night I was very impressed with him. Moving him back to OLB was the right move. Him and kindle will help our passrush this year for sure. That was clear to me last night.

I'm not sure if they were just wearing some really big shoulder pads, but both Sergio Kindle and Jimmy Smith looked huge in full uniform. They really man handled the guys that they got a chance to tackle.

I really like that because you need those kind of strong physical players on an aggressive defense like the Ravens. It's that kind of toughness that has defined the Ravens over the last years. They're going to bully and force their will on opposing offensive players and make them fight hard for every yard.

Definitely will be cause the Steelers OL is as bad if not worse than ours. I can seen Kurger, Kindle, Suggs, JJ, Bernard Pollard, and Art Jones all introducing themselves to Big Ben..and he hurt his hand last night against the Redskins..

The Ravens are going to bring the pain

I read somewhere that his equilibrium was thrown off because of his fractured skull and I'm relieved to see it didn't effect his balance or anything.

Looking forward to him taking over from JJ on passing downs this year.

Orakpo is a beast and Kerrigen looks like a force to reckon with as well. Don't know what you mean by "All the skins have". Their defense actually looked pretty good all around.

Great analysis, he's very raw but you can see why he was projected to be a high pick. The thing that jumped out at me was how large he was. Dude could be a beast.

Pretty much all the redskins have is Orakpo and a decent draft. I honestly think they'll have the first pick in the draft.

The Redskins D is pretty solid. Their receivers are underrated and their running back isn't half bad. If they had a halfway decent QB, they'd be at least a mediocre team.

The Bengals are in worse shape, in my opinion.

Finally, someone who understands, it true. If Pitsburgh can't beat the Skins in the First Quarter, they can't beat us.

He hustles a lot, which I love to see in a player

Other than that, he was pretty meh. Showed a lot of physical tools, but he did not provide that much pressure

their linebackers are ok, and their corners are better with josh wilson there, but bengals, redskins, panthers and raiders are just scraping the bottom.

I ll take that bet :P

You are underestimating the Redskins Defense by a lot...

Josh Wilson-OJ Atogwe-LaRon Landry-DeAngelo Hall with Kevin Barnes coming in.

That alone is a sick secondary and London Fletcher looks like he is still 30.
