So there has been alot of questions regarding the situation of the ravens salary cap and no real definite answers so i thought i would post this link which is about as close as we'll come to ever finding out.

Link

So on this site click on the link, it opens an excel sheet with the summary.

CB Chris Carr signed a four-year, $15M contract, which includes a $5M bonus.

He got overpaid!

$3.25 million per year for a nickelback at best.

He got scorched by Philly.

Both the website and the Sun reported (on Aug 4th) the Ravens were $3.558 million under the cap. This was BEFORE Pollard and Evans' salaries were added...

Pollard's salary number wasn't released, but Evans' is $3.275 million.

Without Pollard, that leaves the current Salary Cap at $283,000. BEFORE Pollard.

So... for all those who are asking Ozzie for an OLineman, take this into consideration.

Evans' cap hit you have listed is for 2011 and 2012, total.

Not sure, but I don't think so.

Even PFT says, "Bills fans could understandably be upset about the trade package, but the Bills were ready to move on from Evans and save some money. The eighth-year veteran is due almost $5 million in each of the next two seasons."

Something doesn't seem right then. Because there is no way Pollard's cap hit would be under 283k

I know... but I know one thing. It means we're barely under the cap, so if we bring in an OLineman, we've got to make some room by cutting someone else...

And you hate to be right AT the cap at the start of the season... what happens (God forbid) if something happens to Flacco, for example... Tyrod is not ready for the full-time job, and a replacement - which we discussed a couple of days ago - wouldn't come cheap.

Well they should get Ngata under a new deal by the start of the season. With Kruger stepping up. JJ could be on the chopping block. He set to make 3.5 million this year. If you get an OL man , you can cut Onel who is 1.2 M.

I could see all of the potential moves if the right opportunity presents itself.

I hadn't thought about ditching J.J., but yeah, between Kruger and Kindle, cutting Johnson and Cousins could get you almost $5 mil, and a band-aid at OLine and backup QB could be signed for that...

The Steelers saved millions by inking Woodley, we just have to get into serious talks with Ngata's agent. I heard them talking on NFLN, they said Ngata might end up the highest paid DLineman in history... for now, of course.

Another good link

Even though it's not current, that is a good link.

What's crazy is that Cousins is scheduled to make as much as Oher and Ray Rice combined!!

Yall forget that we can go over our cap by 3mil at the most. So we can till sign sum players without releasing anyone else. All we need now is sum O line help and a backup QB.

Vinny on 105.7 said it pretty good. That the Ravens are taking their time with the Ngata deal, so they won't have to give him additional money for 'rushing' the process.

If the Ravens went to Ngata's agent and said "We need to get this deal done ASAP", they'd be giving leverage to the agent. The agent in turn would come back and say "We can do that, pay X (top) dollar."

This example is present in the Woodley transaction. They needed to ink him to a new deal before the deadline. So they had to rush making Woodley the second highest paid Steeler ever. If they gave it more time, they probably could've worked out a slightly better deal.

The Ravens seem to be waiting and negotiating instead of rushing. It'll help more in the long term.

This is true. I don't believe we used this. I doubt the Ravens would want to borrow 3M from future caps.

But if we see an opportunity. We could borrow the 3M, cut JJ 3.5, cut Onel 1.5, that would give us 8M (minus Pollard).

Note: I have no idea how accurate my numbers and assumptions are.

We can borrow 3 mill from next years cap, but also it's a soft cap this year where we can go 3 mill over. So technically we can spend up to 126 mill.

if you look at that excel table the creator (brian mcfarland) has already accounted for borrowing 3million cap, if im not mistaken..

so really resigning ngata in effect is just going to get us below the "real" cap, and we wont have room for the depth we need

According to the spreadsheet. JJ's 2011 CAP hit is 5.2M. That's huge.

I like JJ and think he is in line for a decent year. But if Kruger and Kindle can handle the OLB position. He could be an odd man out if we need to make a move.

His cap hit is just behind Ray Lewis and Joe Flacco.

hes in the last year of his contract, theyll play it out, let the youngsters grow under him then let him go is what i think, although if someone has to be sacrificed (in the eyes of the office) to make room for depth, he could be sacrificed.. but id sign a tackle and a guard for depth and f*** cousins out on his ear tbh

We ain't cutting or releasing JJ for an O line men. Ain't happening.
5.2M is a pretty big number. Not just OL but QB as well. With the names out there we probably wouldn't need that much room. I'm just saying that if a move needed to be made, they could find a way.

If you get a washed up guy, you can probably just get away with releasing Cousins and a few other lesser guys.

Other guys who have pretty large CAP numbers for their output would be
McKinney at 1.5M and Brendon A at 1.3M
