Justin Boren LG he was solid except he needs more of a pop on run plays but good driving feet

and Anthony Allen pretty much did everything he could have, but really shined in protections this game
I'm slowing getting through the play-by-play. Looking forward to seeing Boren and Allen block now.

Seemed in the first quarter a lot of the breakdown in protection came from the help of TE/RBs. So if Allen can be a decent blocker, might help his stock.

hey im making this thread as a counter balance to the 5 million complaint threads up now. Easy enough, just give kudos to where it is due.

I felt Pernell McPhee lit it up, shedding blockers and backside pursuit.

also Tyrod did an excellent job considering the constant the constant pressure I dont blame him at all for the 2 ints
FINALLY! Someone actually uses the same argument for a different QB! Everyone was saying Tyrod is horrible and that the Ravens can't go into the season with him as the back-up and that the team MUST sign a veteran. But when Flacco was in, it was only the offensive line's fault.

Thank you for realizing that if the excuse works for Flacco, then it works for the rest of the quarterbacks that play behind the same line, or even their back-ups which are assumed to be worse.

Dude not only that I'd say he looked like a year 2000 Raven. Nasty.

Can't wait for preseason game #2 with Ricky and Evans out there.
Ramon Harewood, Ed Dickson, Jimmy Smith and maybe David Reed will all be interesting to watch as well. I also think we'll get a better look at Jah Reid and hopefully see Bernard Pollard working with the 1s along side Ed Reed as well. Hopefully Foxworth is healthy enough to play, but I think he would only see limited action if he was.

Troy Smith still is horrible

I am becoming a big Cary Williams fan and I want him on the field because he is a play maker and a complete football player. So is Nakamura by the way. I hope Pagano finds a way to incorporate these guys into the fold...

honestly I think Kruger will be our starting end , and if so for some reason nightmare is the word to describe it . pollard and reed on back end that's a statistical gamble for any deep ball. reed seems to be hitting with a brutal furiosity . I hope next week we can seen williams playing

Honestly, if Kruger keeps it up, and takes another jump next year, it might be him taking JJ's starting spot, not Kindle. Kruger's improved not only in the pass rush, but he is lightyears better in the run. Kindle seemed to always wanna rush, and not care about the run.

McPhee reminded me of Pryce, not just the number, but the play as well. With the way he got a monster push up the middle and even around the edge at times, he reminded me of Trevor. Arthur Jones, is a freak. He just needs to learn how to break down and make a tackle.

I forgot to comment about Cary Williams, but I think he makes the rotation this year. What do you think Carr's trade value is?
We just signed him to a 4 year deal? I doubt the Ravens are trading away CBs because you can never have enough

It was one preseason game, his play will be what it was a year ago when he was consistently one of the best corners we had

I do think Cary Williams has earned a chance at some playing time..I hope they let him play, he's a big CB too listed at 6'2"

Troy,

Where did you gather any of that from the OP?

Yours truly,

Yes he actually started the game. The Pitta catch came out of a 2TE set. Drew is #80.

He played a lot actually.

Had to go with Pitta. I now it's still early be he really looks hungry for that job. I think he has a good grasp on the shoes he's being asked to fill, but smart enough to be himself. Todd truely excelled at what he did, even though injuries sometimes seemed to just have a way to find him. He's got a good start.

Hearing good things about Pernell McPhee (sp?) , Kruger performing much better, Kindle is back to being as close to 100% as he ever will be, Arthur Jones is turning into a stud, Cary Williams keeps getting better and better.

It seems we always have depth and playmakers on defense but when it comes to offense its hit or miss. Sometimes the OL is amazing and the run game is good but the passing game wasnt up to par..now it seems like the run game and passing game is ready to go but the OL is in shambles...hope that improves, it could decide how far we go this year

How true. Ray Rice doesn't need a huge hole to bust through, but needs a hole period. Conversely, Joe can't throw off his back and getting hit too much takes it's toll over the course of the season. I still hope some of the current OL can turn it up a notch or two. Also you know the FO is montoring this situation more closely as the preseason progresses. Oz more than likely already has a list of players that could be cut or had for a minimal price. The man is definately the best when it comes to doing just that.

Yup, you sumed it up well, defense is looking great but we can only hope to see efforts made to increase depth and talent on the O-line. Even if it;s just a stop gap to get us through this year.

Sergio Kindle and Paul Kruger look like they will be great contributors to the pass rush this season. Bernard Pollard was great. The defense is looking good!

I have to say, around the league Oline play was terrible.

Which is to be expected with the shortened off season. O line is a lot of choreography and playing as a team. Preseason is a lot of missed blocking assignments. I can't think of an O line that looked good.

I can't think of one that looked worse than ours though. There is no doubt in my mind that we will be serviceable by week one, it will get fixed, but that was absolutely pathetic.

I think Pollard is going to add to our already mean and nasty defense. Pollard brings that knock you out mentality
which I think will cause a lot more turnovers than in the past.

I'm also very impressed with Kindle, sure he looks a bit rusty but it's his first live action in over a year. I think Kindle could easily get us about 5-7 sacks this year.

uhhhh pitssburg San Fran, Cincinnati, Chicago, Arizona, Detroit, Washington, Seattle, Denver, St. Louis, Carolina, Buffalo, Oakland, Minnesolta...

There's more, honestly we were in the middle. Philly's actually looked like one of the better one.

Honestly, over reactions aside, our o line play was pretty average.

Cleveland's looked the best. Their left side is by far the best tandem in football. It's like a brick wall that can move forward.

Wow, that many teams gave up 7 sacks or more? Not that sacks are the end-all-be-all judgement, but we were atrocious. Each of our QBs was flushed out or sacked nearly every time they dropped back. I have a hard time thinking we were average. Either way, I think we will get it figured out by week one.

It's also nice to see a rise amongst the D-Line depth. It's great to see another fierce competition in our defensive front for the preseason and training camp.

Hopefully we will see an end in giving up yards on 3rd/4th and short plays.

Pollard is Dawan Landry before the neck injury. Landry, while still productive, was never quite the same after that injury.

He'll be a strong tackler, big hitter, and benefit from great pressure and strong play from his CBs in pass coverage.

WRs are gonna avoid coming across the middle as much as possible, but with strong play on the outside, the QB probably won't have many other options, but over the middle.

Pollard will be one of those guys whose been solid his entire career, but he'll because more of a household name with the Ravens.

People are gonna look up at the end of the season and wonder why they didn't sign him because the Ravens could.

Yea out Oline wasn't as bad as it seems. It was just some timing issues, with is to be expected.

Tyrod didn't truth what he saw a couple times, and Flacco's lone sack came because Marcus Smith was his primary option, but DRC had him locked down on the out route. I don't think that would have happened with Q or Evans. Joe would have at least felt comfortable enough to give those guys a opportunity in a one on one situation. If you rewatch the play, it was what we saw from Mason for many years, expect Marcus Smith isn't as Mason.

I don't know if they gave up 7 sacks, but trust me they were worse. Pittsburg by a lot. Apart from Pouncey no one could hold their block.

Look, I really don't care either way because I think we will fix it. But the Squeelers gave up 3 sacks all game, half as many as us. We were horrible. The announcers for the game were laughing at our O-line because it was that ridiculous. Completely embarrassing. I think moving Cousins inside will help, since he was by far the worse in that game. He couldn't hold back a 10 year old. The problem is that some of those Pittsburgh sacks came after the starters were out. Cousins is supposed to be a starter, and he ended up playing nearly the entire game I think because they wanted to see if he could correct himself during the game. He did not. He was horrible until the very end. Now we have some serious decisions to be made because of how horrible he was.
