[Blogs] Ravens Trade For WR Evans

539 posts in this topic

I have always been a fan of Lee Evans so, IMO, this is a great trade for the Ravens (FAR better than the 4th rd. pick we gave up for Kevin Johnson back in '04). The comparison below should DEFINITELY quell the disappointment of not signed Malcom Floyd. Floyd's 3-year stat line ('08-'10) - 109 catches, 1,958 yards, 11 TDs. Evans ('08-'10) - 144 catches, 2,207 yards, 14 TDs. The biggest difference. Evans'/Buffalo's quarterbacks over that period: Ryan Ritzpatrick & Trent Edwards. Floyd's/San Diego's quarterback - Philip Rivers! Evans should easily produce 800 yards and 6 TDs this year. Something else to keep in mind - Evans has had a 50 yard reception EVERY YEAR he has been in this league.

alot of ppl are forgeting that for the rookies and young guys, this is the first time they have had live NFL contact vs another team. the game speed is way different than college and even practice. so there are going to be mistakes. so for mcphee, kindle, jones, doss to play the way they did is better than expected. now guys like cousins who has been around the block for awhile, thats just unexceptionable.

i wonder if players ever look at these threads...if he does, he needs to know if he EVER plays like he did again he WILL be gone, if he isn't already out the door now

maybe now lee can show torrey how a deep threat is supposed to play in the nfl, if teams cover anquan and lee that would open up our rookies if lee goes long boldin goes med torrey goes long/med and tandon stays short with rice at drop off we should completea pass every play if we can now just fix our o line

Cary and Ladarius are starting cbs cary played like a beast and ladarius was all over.
Even though it didnt count somehow ladarius came from the other side of the field to pick up what they thought was a fumble and ran it for a touchdown, didnt count but great practice.Cary showed no weeknesses and was a tall beast out there.domonique and chris can be our average backups.

Well then, I guess I owe Evans an apology. Looks like it WAS Johnson, not him, who blew that game winning TD catch. Oh well. So....well, let's just say with Evans low numbers last year, he can bounce back and still be a top WR. Lord knows we need it. IF Cam will actually use him.

And to whoever said Webb and Cary Williams would be starting the season....no, they won't. IF Foxworth strengthens his knee, he'll be fine. Carr will shake off the rust, he only bit on that one play, it just happened to be a big one. Webb may have been "all over the place", but the guy is just sloppy. Same as last year, which is why he wasn't starting THEN either. Cary Williams looks very solid, but I just don't know about him starting unless something drastic happens. He could make a good nickel though, with Smith at the dime, and Webb, quite frankly, as a specials teams/punt returner.

OK...here we go again....we have picked up depth in the WR position but who is going
to get them the ball. We need a QB who can read DEFENSES and put the ball where it needs to be....A QB must be quick in decision making or he isn't any good....Am I the only one who feels this way out there

Completely agree with everything you said. Luckily for us we have one that can do that, I thought we were almost in trouble there.

Having Deep threats is great....but if Joe only has 2 seconds to throw the ball, doesn't matter how fast they are, they're not getting far down field. Shaun O'hara PLEASE!

@traven37 Ahh we have a Flacco basher, the problem isnt reading defenses its the O-line, find something better to do then bash Flacco, Hes our franchise QB and thats not gonna change. So you can stop with all that talk. Thank you

Yesterday, 06:02 PMI would not have went through the trouble of registering at another teams website for any other player. Wanted to let the Ravens fans know that you are getting the most standup player to ever come through this town. You would be hard pressed to find anyone in Buffalo that had a bad thing to say about Lee. He is the definition of "Team Leader". He has played for 7 years on our Joke of a franchise. Not once has he ever had anything but positive things to say about what was going on around him. Don't be fooled by his stats from last year either. He hasnt had a qb look his way more than 2-3 times per game in 3 years, muchless a qb that could throw an accurate pass more than 10 yards. My first reaction was anger and disgust, but after stewing for a bit I thought, good for Lee, he deserves a chance to win. Maybe his "whole" career wont be a waste.O.K, I'm rambling. Good luck Lee, this will be the best thing that ever happened to you. Have fun Ravens fans, you've got a good one

Mod Note: Please don't post links without a description of the material and your "take". This is a good read, though.

great addition to thi offense. with boldin and evans we can really go deep and actually be a threat through the air. but i think well see a lot more running this yer and i think rice will have a huge year. good luck to the ravens lets get a SB for lewis this is for him and everythin he's done.

Sounds like the Bills have/had the same issue that the Ravens do. A couple of really good and promising receivers, and want to give them a shot. Trouble is, what to do until they develop. We want a ring this year... we're going to work on both... I think it's a good move for Baltimore, that's for sure.

Let's be honest here. Flacco is a franchise QB, he is definitely worth the $$, and the best QB we have and have had. But he does have his weaknesses, one being a quick release. He just doesn't have one. That accounts for a few of his sacks. The rest come from the receivers not getting open fast enough, him not making his reads fast enough, and our offensive line not being able to block...anybody. Having a deep threat receiver will provide minimal difference in our offense if the offensive line doesn't protect Flacco long enough to wait for an open receiver. We need serious help on the line first and foremost, then we can hit some big explosive plays down field.

I think Evans is a great addition. He is a great downfield target. He will help mentor all of the young receivers especialy Torrey Smith. Our receiving corps is a pretty good one now with Boldin, Evans, Torrey Smith, and Tandon Doss.

I agree with RavensFanoftheCentur, I'm glad we have all the weapons and qb but what good is it, if no o-line to protect, it like having a corvette with no engine
look good but goes no where, o-line need to be better... I think the can do it, question when are they going to get it? Com'n Ravens make this your year you really got to want it, set the tone for this year with a stomping of the Steelers 1st. game!!!

i really believe that we should persue marc bulger out of retirement for back up.if flacco goes down we r dead in the water.taylor might be good, but not to carry us into the playoffs.if we dont get marc back now someome will and we will be left holding the bag.i would be ashamed to have joe go down and marc playin on another team cuz we again asleep at the wheel.

purple and black, you are correct,it is the o line that sucks,t saw this last year,if we can sign jared gaithers and place him at left tackle and move michael back to right tackle we have a shot.

Uhhhh,.... did anyone else notice a certain Deadskin Slot Receiver who happen to resemble a certain Raven Receiver names Donte Stallworth run relatively crisp patterns and catch 3 passes over the middle for 1st downs against the Squealers than he was thrown to ALL DARN YEAR in Baltimore!

Tell me again that it's not Cam-to-Flacco "do as I say" attitude!?

this guy was a #2 receiver on the worst team in the NFL... yeah, i'm excited. our Oline is horrible and we've gotten worse from last year when we were terrible. the Oline is the heart of any offense. cmon Oz..

Our Oline will be fine, this is a very good move and should be what is needed to put us over the hump. Yanda back at guard and Vonte Leach at fullback is going to make our running game better than last year. If teams try to stack the box against us we'll have one-on-one coverage with either Boldin or Evans. People need to stop freaking out about preseason games...

@Adamame are you dumb Anquan is a possession receiver
[/quote]
Yes I am pretty dumb. Maybe you should read that although I was concerned about the trade that I want to see what he brings to offense and that I want him to succeed. Reading is a skill few have :)

Hey Purple & Black.. how's that quote of mine holding up now!? Evans been hurt... Cotchery finally made a catch for Pittsburgh & T. Smith & L. Williams are more than holding their own. * please note.. I said it all Aug 12th! The real reaosn they didn't bring Cochtrey in isn't his back.. it's his lack of SPEED.. same reason they let D. Mason go.. 7yd comebacks don't beat the Steelers... but I'm sure you know that now; if you didn't before! Just ask M. Clayton, T.J. Housmanzadeh etc.
