The "Uh-O-Line"

I cry and specifically for this offensive line... This line looked really really bad every year my faith in Oniel Cousins gets lesser and lesser. I think we really need to find an answer at left tackle and shift Oher to his extraordinary ability at Right Tackle...

I say Ozzie needs to get on the phone and beg Jonathan Ogden to come back and sign for 1-year - teach these young kids the fundamentals of blocking and pass protection. Pop the champange and bust out your old 75 jerseys cause the "MAN is BACK!!!"

I don't know if this has been mentioned but Langston Walker is out there. I think we should pick up the phone.

I am pretty sure the Ravens are signing Rabach when he is healthy enough to pass his physical, which they said would take about two weeks....so by that logic he could be signed by this week sometime...he can play C and G so thats good versatility..but that doesnt solve the RT situation, we are going to have to accept Oher at LT, the coaches believe he's the guy...whatever....so what RT can we go out and get? free agent? or thru trade? I'm sure we could trade for a solid but not stellar backup thats better than what we have now and it wouldnt cost anything more than a late round pick...but i dont want to give up all our picks BUT we should be receiving extra COMP picks in the next draft because we lost more players than we got back..or however that works.

Its still early and Jah Reid is learning the playbook and the checks and calls...so lets just hope he can get it down.

OR...Yanda(RT)Rabach(RG)Birk(C)Grubbs(LG)Oher(LT) <<< that line would be pretty good as long as everyone stays healthy because depth on the OL isnt very good at all

I plugged in Rabach because I feel like its a formality once he's healed up....but i could be wrong

They won't move Yanda to RT, or move Rabach to guard. Take my word for it.

So, just wondering...why are the Ravens so determined to keep Oher as a good LT, and not allow him to become an "elite" RT? Like who cares if the movie was titled "The Blind Side" lol

The Ravens have said they will monitor the situation and give him another shot in 2 weeks. That was a week ago.

Here are the developing options:

1) Sign RT Flozell Adams = Oher, Grubbs, Birk, Yanda, Adams

2) Move Yanda to RT and sign OG Brian Waters (good pass blocker) = Oher, Grubbs, Birk, Waters, Yanda

3) Start Jah Reid at RT and sign a backup C/G = Oher, Grubbs, Birk, Yanda, Reid

Of the 3, I like #1 the most and could see it happening. I also like #2 but would think that Yanda is a better pass blocker than Waters, still, if an OT solution doesn't come cheap this would be the best value. #3 Scares me right now, but Reid could improve through the preseason.
#3 is our most realistic option. I like it. If Reid is our only weakness then thats really good! We have 2 of the best guards in the NFL, a great center, and when Oher plays well...he plays WELL! Jah Reid just needs more game experience and then hes good to go. The dude is a physical specimen. He will be fine.

I think It's safe to say, Cousins Handed Reid the starting Job on a Silver Platter. So much for a competition. Dude played about as ugly as he looks. It's Reid's Job to lose. Until we acquire Ryan Clady. Just Kidding.

Ok, since the free agency market has quiet downed, here are some free agents that are still left.

Reasonable and a quick way to fix our O-line is to get a veteran guard and shift Yanda to RT, since our OTs are inexperienced and underwhelming. Oher is going to be tough because he's probably our best option at LT, since the market for LT is nonexistent. Also, no one is willing to give away LTs for cheap.

Brian Waters, G, Chiefs. Age: 34 - Still serviceable and played very well last year to keep Cassel upright and get the KC running game elite.

Leonard Davis, G, Cowboys. Age: 32 - Was cut because of his overpriced salary, however he was still efficient. His downfall might be his false start penalties.

Derrick Dockery, G, Redskins. Age: 30 - I heard this guy is worth a look because he did not perform well with Shanahan's blocking scheme, but could do better with man to man schemes.

Rich Seubert, G/C, Giants. Age: 32 - Versatile and serviceable, however age and knee injury can hinder him from starting right away.

Shaun O'Hara, C, Giants. Age: 34 - Injury and age has also affected him, may take him a while to be 100% Healthy

Mark Tauscher, OT, Packers. Age: 34 - Last year he was on the IR, but before that he was somewhat helpful as a experience RT. However, that was the year Aaron Rodgers was getting sacked every game. Tauscher may be the better option than the erratic and underwhelming Cousins.

All we can upgrade is our RT and C because Oher is our only LT and we're stuck with him for the season. It's a do or die for Michael Oher and if he doesn't succeed, he might see his left tackle paycheck out the window, and the Ravens have to go find another LT for the future. However in the draft, we did pass Gabe Carimi and Derrek Sherrod for Jimmy Smith. However, I believe Ozzie made the right call by going after the best player available than need. I wonder how Gabe Carimi and Derek Sherrod are doing for their teams.

Michael Oher - 6 ft 4 in 313 lb He has a explosive first step and the potential to be a great tackle, however he's having trouble with audibles, against speed rushers, bull rushers, and of course elite rushers at times. He has shown some greatness, but also inconsistency. This is his third year and as sink-or-swim year. We can only hope for the best as now more reps can be his best friend.

Derek Sherrod - 6 ft 5 in 321 lb He is a smart guy with a pedigree to be a future LT. His quickness and technique is what makes him the potential to be a great LT. If Derek Sherrod becomes a great LT in his rookie year, great for the Packers as Thompson has struck again with talent. However, It's tough because Ozzie went with a Jimmy Smith who has a potential to be a shutdown corner. I do like our corner depth when it becomes full strength.

Gabe Carimi - 6ft 7 in 314 lb He is versatile and tough, which allows him to try the Guard position, RT position and even the LT position. He's built like mauler and could have served well for us as a starting right tackle. However, we took Jimmy Smith.

I remember when they said Gaither was replacable and Cousins has LT feet, and that was before telling the world how special Jah Reid and Tyrod are. I think this comes down to the arrogance of the coaching staff, and lack of accountability. I don't know how anyone would think the shortest OT tandem in the league was going to protect Flacco, it's like putting two guards at tackle and saying, "hey, block these speed rushers". While we're at it why the hell isn't Cousins playing guard?

He wouldn't be better. Yanda would be a decent upgrade.

The problem begins with coaching and their staff. The organization decided to release all of good and great players for rookies without any real experience. The NFL game speed is much faster than playing collegiate football. Secondly, why haven't we done anything to fix the awful O line who looked like pop warner players. Hey I have seen high school players protect there qb better than this one. We need real O linemen who can block and protect all together....Ozzie please get us some help ....We are in desparate need.....

I agree that we need to address the O-line but Ozzie hasn't done anything stupid in who he's let go. Chester was WAY overpaid by the Redskins (what a surprise) and hardly worth bringing back for anything like that price; Gaither had blown his own future here, his departure was on the cards months ago and Moll is easily replaced.

OT Ramon Harewood is coming off PUP today.
Where did you hear that? That would be big for the young guy. Also was there any word about David Reed coming off PUP.

edit: I just saw Aaron Wilson's tweet about Harewood. It'll be interesting to see where he fits in.

Here's my take....move Oher back to right takle....keep Yanda at right guard.....put up with Birk at center for 1 more year (ozzie please make getting a young center a priority this offseason), keep Grubbs at left guard and then find, through hook or crook, just do it, a respectable left tankle who above all else, is a decent pass blocker, I actually don't care if he can run block, as long as he can do at least an average job of protecting Flacco's blind side, then he's the final piece of the offensive line puzzle.

We then have a dominant right side, a competent left side and a below average center. Thats the best setup for the offensive line. Moving guards to tackle positions, having a rt tackle play lf tackle is a failed experiment.

I hope the owner, Mr Biscotti, read this (he says he reads the message boards)and instructs Ozzie to do what I just proposed.

From left side to right side this is the magic offensive line lineup.

New player, Grubbs, Birk, Yanda, Oher.

Do it Ozzie!

That's nice, but since he hasn't hit the field in a year and he has NO NLF experience, I wouldn't expect too much.

Unforunately LTs don't grow on trees. Oher is fine right now, and I think he will only get better with time. What we need is a veteran who can just give us some quality depth and maybe make a couple starts at RT if Reid isn't quite ready.

I believe in our Ravens and the FO. They know what they are doing. All the pieces will come together. Come December we will definetly be a team to be reckoned with. Go Ravens!!!!!

This is my very first posting here on the forums. I am extremely concerned with the O-line this year. Cousins is a joke and needs to be sent to the bench. I know LT is a tough position to fill, but Oher needs to be moved back to RT (where he is a beast) and the LT position needs to be addressed. Unfortunately, I am not completely comfortable doing this with our "in-house" players. Nobody fits the bill. Ozzie needs to search elsewhere (and fast). Once we shore up that LT position, move Oher back to RT, and add depth to the C position, we will an offensive force to be reckoned with (that's assuming Joe stays healthy all year. I love Tyrod but if Joe goes down we are in serious trouble).
Overall...I think everything else the FO is doing is amazing. I love the addition of Evans and he removed a major concern for us with another veteran WR presence. If we can protect Joe better, I think our new additions will pay huge dividends for us.
And as a footnote for the defense- Kruger and Pollard looked amazing in the first PS game.
Let's go Ravens!!! Destroy the Steelers!!!

That's good news. The more bodies at RT the better chance we have at polishing stone to gem. Harewood was looking pretty decent early in TC last year.

i am watching the replay of the preseason game over and over. and....i noticed that on a specific run play (the play after Ray Rice's pass out of the backfield) that broke down up front...that Leach IMMEDIATELY got up and looked and pointed straight at Oher to see what happened!

get on him Leach! make this O-line do their jobs!

Pretty sure this was just miscommunication between the two. Leach has only been in camp about a week, I think that has a lot to do with it.
