MERGED: Lee Evans Traded to the Ravens

506 posts in this topic

I was a Bills season ticket holder for 2 long agonizing years just because they were the closest team to where I live in Canada. Lee Evans was a great team player who didn't demand the ball, was repeatedly getting open, and had Trent freakin Edwards to get him the ball!. This was worth the wait, let the Steelers play with Cotchery, this was a good move by Ozzy.

For those who don't remember the Bills game last year:

http://www.buffalobills.com/media-center/videos/Top-10-Performances-Lee-Evans-vs-Baltimore/9de4e5d5-7fa6-4527-9563-f392086f4be3

Seems like Evans does more than just run go routes.

Jeez talk about mixed emotions watching that! The whole time I'm smiling I feel like I need to throw up.

i have that game saved on my DVR and watch it from time to time. Evans just gutted our secondary! now, he will do the gutting of secondaries for the Ravens. awesome!

Cam better not mess this one up with piss-poor play calling. we have a thoroughbred...let him run!

I must say im very excited that we signed him, but it won't mean squat if the O line isnt fixed. Flacco we'll never have a chance to throw a deep ball.

I feel alot better with losing Heap now that i saw Pitta, which honestly didnt think much of him, think thats because we didnt see much of him before. He kinda reminds me of Heap a little. Looked better than Ed Dickerson.

This is a really strong move for the Ravens. Evans and Boldin are a prefect compliment to each other. Neither guy needs the other to create space so they can be successful, but both will benefit from each others success.

Actually when you look at our WR/TE group, everybody compliments each other so well. Boldin and Evans are the veteran versions of Doss and Smith.

I think this move improves the Ravens team, not just offense, but team, from last year.

Now when you look at this offense, is a year 2 Boldin better then his 1st year? Can Lee Evans provide what Mason couldn't, which is explosive plays. Can the combination of Doss, Smith, Reed, and Hardy, out perform Housh. Can Dickson and Pitta combine to replace Heap?

The answer to all these questions are a resounding yes.

I think Ozzie might have saved his job with his trade, or at least he'll win some overzealous fans back. j/k

Ed Dickson didn't play last night. So are you saying Pitta's preseason performance was more impressive then anything Dickson did in the regular season last year?

I knew Cotchery just didn't fit right. I was scared we would sign him out of desperation, great move by oz to pass on cotchery and get our guy. Other than Floyd, I can't find a better match than Evans at wr out of the guys that were available.

Irrelevant to the thread, but I'm diggin' the Los sig.

And I feel the EXACT same way about Cotchery/Evans.

Lee Evans will be a much better fit for the Ravens then Floyd would have been. Now make no mistake, I think Folyd would have helped us, but he would have only been a specialty player. He would have gotten a few attempts down field per game.

However with Evans, the Ravens add another #1 caliber WR to the offense. Evans numbers don't look great, but you have to consider the fact that he's been getting doubled and triple teams in Buffalo because he didn't have much help.

Now, together with Boldin, Evans will find a lot more room to work against defenses, and he'll have a QB who can actually get him the ball.

I don't wanna put too much on him, because we haven't even seen him in a practice yet, but Evans could very well have one of his best seasons this year, because he'll be the #2 WR instead of the main target.

Evans is more of a vertical threat, which is exactly what we needed. That's why this was the right move for us.

But if you look at their stats, they're pretty close, the last 2 years:

Evans 81 receptions, 1190 yds, 11 TDs
Cotchery 98 receptions, 1254 yds, 5 TDs

Cotchery is more like Mason, more of a possession receiver. He's averaged 12.6 avg. for his career, while Evans has averaged 15.7... much more of a long-ball threat... which is what we needed, while T. Smith gets up to speed.

this is a great pick up. His numbers will without a doubt skyrocket this year with flacco. Im even more intrigued with our recieving corp now. Hopefully cam will start taking advantage or the speed with him and Smith and run some slants.

I just really hope we pick up a decent veteran tackle after someone is cut for youth/salary cap issues. We need to give Joe some time. Yea of course the eagles d-line is gonna be beastly this year, the Oline def had their hands full the first preseason game.

I know this was talked about in another thread... but I actually like the thought of grooming Reid into a LT, and putting Oher back at RT...Reid has the same build as Gaither did, with better feet.

I'd bet that Lee Evans probably has a career year this year, Joe throws a great deep ball but he's never had that guy...Evans is that guy.

I'm going predict 1200 yards and 8-10 TDs for Evans this year

Yea and when you look at their QB situation, not that Fitz is horrible, but, DirtySanchez>Fitzpatrick, and Cotchery wasnt getting double and triple teamed the last 2 years. Slightly skewed numbers when you compare them.

Evans will have 60+ catches this year alone

Ozzie proved why he's one of the best with this move. I loved what I saw out of Doss last night, and between Dickson and Pitta TE production will be there, but still a veteran receiver was needed to complement Boldin. Evans has the deep speed we've been looking for and will be an excellent complement to Boldin while providing additional veteran leadership and depth at receiver. And he supposedly was traded for a fourth round pick. That's a bargain.

If we can get the OL figured out, this team will go far.

It's weird that Tandon Doss is like Anquan Jr. and Torrey Smith is like Lee Evans Jr. except Tandon and Torrey are both slightly taller and were lower round selections than their veteran teammates.

Now, if we also got Floyd, then we would be unstoppable. Now on to RT

We got Evans partly because we didn't get Floyd. We wouldn't carry both of em.

LOL, you cannot honestly compare Doss to a young Q. When Anquan was in his prime, nobody could tackle him. He was a MONSTER.

I don't see that kind of YAC from Doss at all

Signing Lee Evans lifted me up! Now I have farther to fall...

I like what I've written! But one day people won't speak English...

yeah well we wont have to worry about that, he's got two years left on his deal so chances are he's not sticking around past the age of 32 especially if torrey smith and tandon doss and david reed develop. Now if Evans is still really productive after his deal is up we could keep him around but even if his speed goes he's still a reliable veteran WR...he'd be like a younger Mason
