How About Oz Now ?

162 posts in this topic

We lose one preseason game, not even a blowout, by a grand SEVEN points and you come on here pointing the finger at Ozzie saying he's ruined the season already? I can understand that you wanted the Ravens to win that game but there's no need to start labeling Ozzie a failure because of a preseason loss.

ok guys now that we have seen all of the holes in the 1st pre-season game what do you give The OZ so far ? The defense was awful, the running game was less then effective and no matter who was throwing the ball against us we did not have the answer to stop them. Our best defense was them stopping them selves.

In 2 series Rice gained more from side to side then he did moving forward. Flacco got smack several times and our defense looked just confused.

It sure is a good thing that we got rid of Heap, Mason and Willis and company. Who needs experience when we could have what we have right now.

The expect top dollar for seats etc but just dump the best we have to offer. Oh thats right Mason was only our leading receiver the last few years and heap was only our best TE and Willis got us into the end zone. Who needs to score or keep the ball with a running game while our defense struggles. Why would you strip both sides of the ball in the same year ? We had a few chances to improve either side but sat idle. Welcome to 2011 and Thanks Ox and company.

Have you noticed that we did not score a touch down tonight nor did we run the ball at all with success. Sure we can compete with the steelers. Great choices again this year front office gurus. why not just enlist an entire CFL team if you want to just put any team on the field. Would save a few bucks and atleast we would not have to deal with your BS excuses and theories while we watch a team lose on all levels by 2nd and 3rd string guys stopping us.

Looks like Oz finally crapped out that lucky horseshoe. Like he ever had a clue at all.
i didn´t think that somebody could have come close to the almost 100 neg reps from the other thread but you are on a good way.

to your question: you can answer that when oz signed ngate, flacco and rice all longterm as well as grubbs and kindle after that season. that is what it´s all about. building a team for the next decade not for 1 season like jets or eagles...

man those kids getting in panic after one preseasoner is just impressive..

The only thing I've worried about is the O-line and they didn't put my worries to rest in this game. First preseason game on only 2 weeks practice though...I'll give em a pass.

From the baltimore Sun:
Rookie OT Jah Reid struggled mightily in pass protection in Thursday's preseason opener against the Eagles.
Reid couldn't keep the pressure off Tyrod Taylor, showing slow feet and poor technique. The Baltimore Sun suggests the third-rounder is "more of a project than an immediate solution." That's a problem because starting RT Oniel Cousins continues to get beat like a drum, and LT Michael Oher couldn't stop Trent Cole. The Ravens tackles are a potential stumbling block this season.

This will need to improve but Ravens have 3 weeks.

When ya lose by 7 or less its a coaching problem. 8-9 is equal blame. And 10 points or more points is a player effort problem.

You football connoisseurs ARE missing the point. It is a preseason game and it IS important. This is a stage of evaluation. I bet if we looked like the Eagles, folks wouldnt be on here saying "calm down" its only preseason. The fact is, our offensive line needs some work and the D needs to gel. Philly was the better team yesterday and I dont see you guys saying, "oh well, they just got lucky." Its ok to panic a little...sure, not the end of the world though. Let the guys vent instead of pretending like preseason games mean absolutely nothing. They do.

i agree. the line was horrid, but they were also back ups.. how many of them will see action this season? and cam has always been predictable, nothing surprising. not saying thats a good thing but its still no reason to panic just yet
Cousins is our supposed starter at RT and is a vet. He stunk up the place. While the OP might be off base with most of the criticism, the O line does need addressed.

Three starters were cut.

What's foolish is to make sweeping predictions about a season after a few possessions in the first pre-season game.
Yes 3 were cut and many others were let walk in FA .It is not like they got huge contracts we couldn't match. Josh Wilson? Chris chester? Just to name a few we could have used last night

Wow over dramatic for a preseason game. Do people realize over the years that even playoff teams like the Colts have gone 0-4 in preseason. The preseason is a tool to continue development. Teams don't go out and use every play in the playbook like a regular season game.

Give it a rest, we are trying to intergrate young talent with veteran leadership, so that the team can remain good for years to come...

It's not like we were blown out the way the Patriots vs Jaguars last night.

People need to remember that there has been much practice time...

Seriously? Another -100 neg. rep candidate? It's just pre-season whether you like it or not. It's been this way for a long time for all teams. Please don't tell me the season is lost already. :scared2:
Where did I say the season was lost? I am just saying we can't go into the season with out currant roster we cut 3 starters but the only one I think we will miss allot is( Mason ).I am more upset about the guys we let walk in FA for minimal contracts like Josh Wilson and Chris chester we need all the O Line depth we could get and Wilson was our best corner last year. We let him walk for a small contract and kept Carr for not much more $. Chris chester also did not get a huge contract no one thinks about him he was not the best but solid and gave us depth and flexibility.

I know we had cap issues but many teams were over cap and just re worked contracts and singed there franchise player to clear cap room we would have not of had to do much to keep a few of our key guys.I did not here of us re working any contracts witch makes it look like we weren't even trying to keep or guys. This was not a good year to go with a youth movement that is why most teams that were on the cusp of a supper bowl kept as many of there player as they could from last year and picked up other vets to put them over the hump. We did the opposite.

Preseason games 1-3 are a time to evaluate team talent and make roster cuts, while improving on technique, timing and other issues.

I was more interested in watching younger guys like Kruger, art jones, kindle , McPhee , pitta etc play.

I wish I could have seen more carries for D.Berry and A.Allen. Or I wish I could have seen C.Brown since J.Smith didn't play...
And I like seeing Cary Williams I hope he can play more in regular season this yr.

I'm not really sure what were some people expectations...

The best thing in preseason is to not have injuries beat the team.

On the flipside, since I live in Eagles Country, I'm hearing from a lot of Eagles fans who think that Howie Roseman and Andy Reid are the best personnel evaluators in all of football, and that the Eagles will go 16-0 and become the first team to go 19-0 and win the Super Bowl.

I'm not kidding.

Same thing SOME here would be saying had we won last night.

I think Oz did a terrific job, considering how close we are riding the cap limit. Wait until the Ngata signing. Then things will happen.
Why not sign Ngata early on (We know he is a beast just pay the man) and then just re structure some contracts like other teams have done? We could have kept all our key vets that way! Cap is just a excuse teams that want to keep there guys find a way.

And we could have used chester how, to have another O lineman get beat. He is not that good in fact when it comes to who sucks worse cousins or chester I am not sure, although after last night cousins might get the nod.

Yes because it is made up. .

In regards to the Ngata thing maybe they are making it even more cap friendly by putting easy incentives in there so that way it does not count as much against the cap so we have even more room to maneuver.

I just wish they Raven's organization knew you were a better GM than Ozzy because we would obviously be so much better off.

Seriously it's preseason game 1, some folks are so negative. Calmdown chicken little.
Come back and say calm down after we get beat up by the steelers in week 1. Fans are upset because the writing is on the wall it is not like there are a ton of good FA left out there to fill our holes. I personally hate losing to the steelers it feels like getting punched in the gut 100 times I can't shake off the funk for days after we lose to them.I was looking forward to beating this year we should have beat them twice last year if we could have just kept out team intact and infused a few of our young guys I think we could have beat them this year.It is not looking likely now

Oh geesh it's started already. Oh ye of little faith, this was only GAME ONE of the pre-season. PUHLEEZ give the coaches a chance to do their jobs before you shred everyone into cole slaw. And our HoF player GM knows a lot more about this game than any of us could ever hope to know.

This is just ridiculous. I didnt read an intelligible thought in there.

Oz drafted 3 FIRST BALLOT HOF guys, and many other's who are going to Canton and yet he never had a clue. Go back to your think tank (and yes I use that loosely) and try that one again.

In case you just started watching football. The teams with that continue to win year after year since about 2000 Patriots colts steelers eagles They generally do let many veterans gp via trade cut or free agency. They don't hold on to players until there worthless.
Eagles: dawkins, Westbrook, mcnabb, trotter, c. Simon
Steelers: s.Holmes , P.burress, e.Holmes, g.Lloyd , k.Greene, r.Woodson etc
Patriots: branch , givens, seymour, l.milloy, a.samuel
Colts: mainly let lbs and DBS walk m.peterson, c.June , k.Hayden , r.Brock , d.thorton

I understand the pressing concerns but:

Heap is old and frail. He's sustained an injury of some kind for the pas couple seasons, forcing him to either been inactive or only preform 75% or less. Pitta and Dickson have show exception skill at TE. There is noting wrong with moving on in this regard. Everyone loves Heap! There is no qualm there. Its a matter of securing the TE position with a healthy, young player. Heap just is NOT that anymore.

The same can be said for Mase. Mase is getting up there in years. He carries us to the playoffs and, surprisingly, under-preforms. He also had some attitude issues last season, not only with the other wide-outs, but also with Joe. Again, everyone loves and appreciates what Mason has done. Granted, he has experience and skill but he is also a player who is worried about recognition. This can be a lethal cause for dissent of "team". We have a similar receiver in Boldin, who is a younger and stronger receiver anyways. What we need at WR is someone with break-out speed - a deep threat. Mason is too old to fulfill that position anymore, as sad as that may be for all of us. Lee Evans, in my opinion, would be a good pick up in this regard. Lets hope we get him.

Further, don't forget that we're missing some of our starters. Birk, our starting center, who is like Ray Lewis when it comes to the OL (at least in respect to being that cornerstone for the other players) wasn't in their last night. Oher is still adjusting to the left side but, make no mistake, that will be worked out soon enough for him. The only problem, really, is Cousins. And, mark my words, he will be replaced before week 1 gets here (which, mind you, is A MONTH away) if there is no significant improvement. There is still time for our rookie, Jah Reid, to improve and find familiarity too. Regarding the D...just relax, as Tsizzle said they don't want to show what they've got before week 1. Our division rival is week 1, man. We can't show them what we have that they may start preparing to stop it. Besides, Pollard looks beastly and so does the other SS. Ed, of course, will show up. Ray-Ray and Tsizzle with be there. Our D-line was very well. Plus, Kruger and Kindle look like machines. Jimmy will be fresh for play, alongside a hopefully healthy Foxworth (which will be an entirely different CB scheme than you saw last night). Our D will be much better by week 1...its just that we're looking to see who will start in CB and SS right now, so there is going to be some alterations on D in those positions right now. Now, our young WR's weren't too impressive last night but, you're really preaching to the choir when you voice these concerns. Some people are hoping to sign another veteran WR (me in particular), others are fine with our youth, thinking we will progress by the time playoffs get here. But, make no mistake we will be another SB contender and that's all you get right now. We need to wait until the end of preseason before an other judgments are made. Until then, relax bro.

RAVENS!!
