Injuries

11 posts in this topic

When I take a look at our Injury Report for wednesday, I have to admit that I am pretty concerned.
We have week 2, and there are 13 players on the list. I know that 6 of them are probable and had full participation in practice.
The thing is that all of the 13 players on it are extremely important key players in our system (6 offensive starters, 4 defensive starters, 2 very important special teamers).
Everytime someone is on that list, there has got to be a reason, something's gotta be wrong with his body (even if it is a "minor" injury), which means that he's not 100%, which means that this player can not go full speed and take any risks, which will effect their game.

But we also have 6 key players who are questionable or even doubtfull, which means that the possibility that they are going to play is lower that the possibility that they are not going to play.

I know that it is only thursday, but I am afraid that it will be te same than last year, where both our offense and defense were running on "half" speed due to injuries, when we have so many guys on our injury list that early in the season.

Perhaps I am overreacting. I am only a big ravens fan who wants his team to win and I don't want to hot up any conflicts now.

Thoughts??

Don't worry, most of those guys were on there last week and they still played. They just put them on there in case something does happen. The only guys who are on there and probably WON"T play, are the ones on doubtful and a couple who had limited practice (Like Corey Ivy).

I wouldn't worry about it. Coach is taking a page out of the Patriots' book where they list everyone possible on the injury report to make it harder for the other team to game-plan because they won't know who will actually be playing until later in the week... Prior to Brady tearing his ACL and MCL, he had been on the Pats' injury report for some reason or another the past 5 or 6 seasons lol

I agree. This is football and the guys get banged up in the games then in practice and it's only Week 2 so the guys are still getting used to the hits and everything. We will be fine :D

There's always reason to be concerned. But, the only thing we can do, as fans, is hope and pray for the best.

Right now, I'm happy we're at almost full strength. I keep seeing all these guys, like Tom Brady, out for the season and think "wow" I'm glad that is not us.

Here's to a healthy and successful '08 season.

Yeah, it's a lot of "smoke and mirrors". I was 100% certain that Ed Reed wouldn't be playing in the season opener and sure enough, he comes running out of the tunnel in full pads ready to play.

They even played this "game" during introductions. They introduced Justin Leonard before Reed which made me say, "well there's no way Ed's playing today".

Then all of a sudden "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED"! And to top it off, Ray comes out and makes the place explode!!

In Many Apects, the Team feels that they are (for the most part of it) Relatively Healthy and "Ready to go" at this current point in time. I think alot of them Have built confidence up after last weeks opening Day win over the Bengals that surely carries over to week to week, the more you succeed...the more you start to believe within both yourself as well as your teammates and the people around you. No Team should sit back and/or dwell on the issue of whom has an injury and who they have available because if someone sees that they dont have a "key" player in the starting lin-up, then they take that bit of information and start thinking "we dont have this guy playing? he's one of our keys, we need him, without him this defense just isnt the same".

I really/honestly think that this Team, this defensive unit, has a un-believable amount of talent with the amount of players whom at any point in time, has the ability to become play-makers, game changers and ultimately be a part of a Defensive unit that is truly remarkable and such a dominant force.
So to me......when these injury reports come out, i dont get all that worked up about it because its not like "oh we dont have this player, he's the key for us in this scheme, without him, it wont work" when i know, you know, the team knows....that this team, this defense, has the players and the talent neccessary in order to stay calm and know that we're ok with things, we have the players that can step in and really step it up another notch and perform like one of the starters without losing a step.

so to think people should be worried about injuries and when one player goes down with an injury.... well......they shouldnt be.

Exactly! When I saw Ed out there I was absolutely shocked because of all the apparent bad news regarding his injury, then he goes and defends a pass that gets picked and helps us own the Bungles... Hopefully Buddy Lee will be back this week too :D

i think that, its that kind of thing that adds to our Defense overall and adds to the overall "trickery" of our defense and what we are trying to do, because when our Opponents hear that say.....Ray Lewis or Reed arent going to be in the Line up this week or whenever, they take a little bit of a sigh of relief, then from that point forward until game time on sunday, start preparing their gameplan as if those key players arent going to be in the line up.

Then Sunday rolls around and our opponents walk out onto the football field thinking they have a safe bargain of a game plan and what to do, because they dont have to neccessarily face the likes of the Potentially injured players and all hopes are running good and high, then out come the Ravens team and what do they see?.......the players that they "thought" were not going to be playing this sunday, Dressed in full gear and in full uniform..ready to play.

well you can only imagine the amount of scrambling around and chaos that suddenly burst out on the opposite sideline, because now they have to be quite frantic about what to do now and such.

and you know how all of us Ravens, Love to suprise and shock our opposition....this is just another tactic in the seemingly never-ending cycle/course of the confusing Rex Ryan's Defensive Scheme's.
