Matt Roth?

Remember Matt Roth the Cleveland DE/OLB who is a free agent? Evidently the market has kind of softened for him so his agent has sent out a mail to all teams stating that he is available for $3M on a 1 yr deal (according to ESPN Insider rumors).

I know he was one of the potential DEs that was rumored to be associated with the Ravens a while ago right before free agency began. But, somehow I haven't heard anything at all since then. He is a solid DE to say the least and could help us immediately.

What do you guys think? Are we set at DE right now or do you think we go after Roth? Do we even have the cap room now after the Ricky Williams signing?

Never Hurts to have another run stoping linebacker. Sure, wouldn't hurt. Still want Lee Evans.

I doubt the team goes after Roth with all the hype surrounding Kindle and Kruger since camp started.

I wouldn't rule it out, but it looks less likely now that Kruger has officially moved back to OLB. I'd say O-line is the our biggest area of attention now, we still don't have a definite starter for RT and Center is an issue with Birk's knee.

First thought that occured to me as well. But, the concept of adding Roth on the cheap is intriguing to say the least. However, with Ricky's addition my concern is the cap room. I don't think we have enough cap room (based on everything I have heard upto the point of Ricky's signing was around 3M). We have a critical need on the O-line in my opinion. I am not comfortable with either Oniel of Jah Reid at RT or backing up Birk at Center... hopefully we address that soon.

I dunno, we seem pretty stacked in OLB position with JJ, Suggs, Kruger and Kindle and for 3 mill I don't know if we would go there just for quality depth.

I wouldn't mind bringing him in, because he can add to our passrush. He had 24,5 QB hurries last year alone, so he's not just a runstopper.

But I rather have a quality backup for Matt Birk. I don't think he can handle an entire season.

We can't afford him until we re-sign Ngata long-term... but that's definitely an option.

I'd be all for bringing him in, once we get Ngata re-signed.

He's good against the run and is an underrated pass rusher. For that sort of deal I don't see any reason not to go for him. (I love JJ, but he can't rush the passer, Kindle is completely unproven and Kruger's shown next to nothing.)

Yea, I doubt if the FO goes after Roth ( like a little upgraded version of JJ ).

I'd definitely like Roth if we had the cap room. Roth, Rabach (assuming he passes his next physical), and Evans should all fit under the cap if Ngata is signed. Also, I could see us sign Morrison like is suggested, but that all depends on how much we value our ILB's. Gooden has beefed up, word is Ellerbee has mad potential but has character issues, and McClain has been consistent for us. Still, Morrison as the guy to play next to Ray would be nice.

Still, as long as we at least get a half-way decent OL like Chester and a reciever I'm Chillen.

Maybe it's me but it feels like Roth is never satisfied wherever he goes...or maybe that's just when he was in Cleveland which is not surprising haha.

I agree though we have to at least try and make a run at Evans. He doesn't fit into their future plans there and would be a great help for our offense

He's a better pass rusher than JJ and proven unlike Kruger/Kindle. But hey, camp hype hasn't let us down so far am I right?

I was shocked when I saw that we signed Williams. Where is the cap space now for even a 3 million 2nd tiered DE? Whoa they really thought this one through. Birk may return before the end of the season if he gets hurt again. I see our biggest need as a center right now. Let's just wait until some cuts are made around the league. I think a guy like Williams would have been available then. Let's pass on this guy.

It was a question, i hadnt heard anything. But I know these forums for some people are about having witty remarks to get +'s... sorry i was just trying to get some info

And no, i wouldnt want him to get water. I want him to then pass a physical, sign for the minimum and compete for a tackle spot. I know its such a huge risk to sign someone and cut them if need be, especially with all our depth at tackle right now.

Sorry dude...I use the mobile skin, therefore dont even see when/if I get +'s. Just assumed it was common knowledge since its been all over every media outlet since last year that the guy is unhealthy (back) and cannot pass a physical.

Wasnt really witty, just a response. Id take Gaither who i atleast know can play when healthy over Cousins who I know cant play even when he is. If gaither can stay healthy hes a starting LT, which Oher might and probably will turn out to be but on the right side is probably one of the best in the league.... but behind that theres Jah Reid whos an unknown, Cousins who is knowingly unreliable, and what, Harewood who was a raw project to begin and has been injured?

I agree that getting Gaither on the cheap would be a great move. Maybe all he needs is some of Ricky's holistic medicine to pass a physical?
