Te Issues

Apparently Dickson is injured and has missed a few practices.
If I recall, Pitta had head injuries last season that left him off the field.
The Ravens just signed two smalltime TE's in the absence of Dickson, plus Heap is gone.
That move seems to have backfired.
Is it time to start freaking out???
Are there any good TE FA's available?
Maybe it's a small injury?

The Ravens won't comment on Dickson's injury.

Dickson has missed past three days of practice. He hasn't been around to question. Team won't comment on injuries during camp.

With #Ravens signing two TEs (albeit low-profile ones) today, this might mean an extended absence for Dickson (undisclosed injury)

Pitta was already fighting for the starting position anyway so I wouldnt be too worried if Dickson went down, but I also doubt he will be out for a considerable amount of time

I'm not TOO concerned about it. Players get hurt ALL the time in camp. I don't think it's anything serious or long term either, they really just need those TEs as bodies. They just need bodies for camp. But players get hurt all the time, we'll be alrite.

I know players get hurt during camp, but this is a short preseason, not to mention our first game is this Thursday.
If it is a serious injury, we don't have the depth at TE to have a respectable offense.
Pitta had two concussions last season, didn't he?
He wasn't really involved in the offense at all.

I'm more concerned about Center. Birk's knee has had him riding the pine pony for a while and our first game of the year is versus the Steelers front 7. Tim Barnes will cry if he is starting that game lol

Us Ravens fans have been spoiled at the Tight End position for the last 10 years. We went from Sharpe to Heap. Just calm down. Take a couple breaths. It will be okay. Look at what Aaron Rodgers did with no tight end last year, and no running game. We will be okay.

You know I was going to mention Birk as well. That really bothers me. Good point.

Also, this was just mentioned...

RavensInsiderAaron Wilson
Ravens TE Ed Dickson remains sidelined with a minor hamstring injury, isn't practicing for precautionary reasons.

Your powers of observation are uncanny. I'm just saying, as a whole, our offense now is more balanced than that Packers offense was last year. Flacco doesn't need to be Rodgers. We don't need to run the spread. We have a running game and tight ends our organization seems to be confident in

So you're saying that if we don't have a tight end, our offense will not be "respectable"? Let me get this straight. Without a tight end, defenses will not respect Ray Rice, or Anquan Boldin, or our young receivers, or Ricky Williams, or Joe Flacco? Yeah you're probably right. You know how often you see teams putting priorities in Tight Ends. When struggling teams draft I'm sure they always think Tight End first.

We drafter Dickson and Pitta back to back...

Anyway, our team is quite different this season, and very young, Hello Steelers Week 1!

I gotta say I disliked him in prior years but Davon Drew looked damn good on Saturday. He caught everything that was thrown his way. No adjustment after the catch. Strong hands. Just looked like a huge target.

I'm not worried about the TE position one bit.

I was impressed with Drew as well. I forget who clobbered him, but I remember him skying for a grab over the middle, and hanging onto the ball after taking a hit to the back.

I'm not worried about the position either.

We weren't a struggling team when we drafted them back to back. I'll give you two teams who beat the Steelers last year. Packers (no tight end) and Patriots (two rookie tight ends). The world is not over if Dickson doesn't play. No one is going to drop Pitta on his fragile little head you seem so worried about. We aren't going to be cellar dwellers if we don't have an established tight end this year. I get that you want to spice this thread up and try to get some good points and counterpoints going, but the Tight End situation just isn't that important. You're worrying about a hamstring tweak. Want to know a tight end last year that had hamstring issues? Vernon Davis. He seemed to do just fine.

Well if thats how you feel PuRock, then I hope this injury to Dickson isn't anything big.

We do need a vet Wideout though

Dickson's injury isn't serious as you've already mentioned, so there's little need to worry about it right now. I don't think that we'll miss a step with them in the passing game instead of Heap, they're more athletic and are both great at catching. I worry slightly about the blocking, but it's not a major concern.

Ozzie is a hall of fame TE, I think I would trust his judgement and knowledge in regards to this positions especially. Relax kids....

Understand your concern, but I don't think we need to hit the panic button quite yet. Let us hear about Dickson before jumping to conclusions... in any case Pitta is a formidable TE and his head injury was last year. Also don't forget Devon Drew who has been in the system and knows it well. Also, John Harbaugh seems to think highly of him...
