Ricky Williams A Raven

267 posts in this topic

From his session with the media today:
Williams said he guessed he would get between eight and 12 carries a game playing behind Ray Rice, and admitted that the hardest he has ever been hit was by Ray Lewis on a two-point conversion play in a 2002 game.

"I didn't know where I was for 30 seconds," he said.

Wish I could find video of that hit.

Clean shaven and shaved. Ricky must really want to shine this year. Just think what kind of career he would have had if he didn't take a detour along the way. My hat's off to him. Hopefully, Parmele will see the light and give him his number. I want to see 34 make it to the Super Bowl with Jersey Joe Flacco leading the parade.

Definatley Ricky's been dirty for year. Not to get off topic, but Drake is not rap
What??? Where did the drake comment come from? Thats eminem if your talking about the rapper on that ricky williams highlight video that got linked.

Anyways I like the move we needed a vet back there and I was a huge McGahee fan but he was too expensive for a backup so all in all I think it was a good move.

That was a class act. Parmele is a man of honor. He remembers how Ricky played when they were together on the Dolphins. In life, once you earn respect, it stays with you for a lifetime. From a chemistry perspective, I have a good feeling about these moves. Now, if we can beat the New Yorkers in the regular season, then I won't care so much about the stock market. ;)

Ricky did very well his past few season in Miami, he's a great running with great vision but he's also a break blocker for those time when Joe drops back and the RB has to pick up a Rusher...a la the Troy P hit on Joe last year..Ricky would have smashed Troy

This is a great signing the more and more I think about it. ALong with him and Leach our run game is going to be much improved this year. That means if defenses move up to play the run and Torrey Smith can get behind the defense for a long score, Torrey will also open things up underneath for Boldin, Doss, David Reed, Dickson, Pitta, etc..

The Ravens offense is going to be better, The Ravens defense is going to be better...things are looking up

NOW all we need is OL depth and that veteran WR such as Lee Evans!! He can be got so I hope that Ozzie is on the phones to Buffalo and working a trade!!

Ngata please hurry up the deal!!

I certainly wouldn't call Williams an "upgrade" over Willis (that's just dumb), but overall, the running game is 10 times better with Rice/Williams/Leach! Love it!
Why would you call it "dumb"? If you throw out the years (2004 - 2007) when he was preoccupied with personal matters, his stats are better. He delivers more of a hit when attacked. I think linebackers would say that he is harder to tackle.

Maybe not a huge upgrade, but he seems ready to go and healthy. His age kept the salary down. Great "cap room" move.

I'm just imagining the bodies flyin' with Leach and Ricky hitting a hole! Especially after being worn down from Leach/Rice hits!

I like the Williams pick up, but there is no way a 34 yr old back is an upgrade over a rarely used, sitting on the shelf for two years 29 yr old back!

Well in all fairness, Ricky is also a rarely used, sitting on the shelf for multiple years RB.

I agree with that and have acknowledged it/brought it up in other threads, so I will concede and say we're comparing McGahee at "27" and Williams at "32" :D

Agreed.

I would have rathered another younger RB, but Ricky for 2 mil is a lot better than Willis for 6 mil, especially when they'd have the same role, and produce similar results.

Yeah, no doubt Williams is better value. But McGahee has been the better player for a few years now. Then again, doesn't matter much who you put behind Leach, as someone already pointed out...

Agreed. I just wish we could keep Willis for Ricky's contract. That'd be perfect.

I dont know, we're not losing anything by replacing McGahee with WIlliams....in fact I think Williams will make more positive plays for us. He does a better job of catching balls than McGahee did....Williams is not a drop off from McGahee.

But I wont argue it, I'll let Ricky show you through his play

Great short term pick-up. Oz knows RB's. Ricky is older but he's been a "specimen" his whole career. Not many backs have had his big/fast/strong body. Its no accident he had NCAA record (which Ray Rice probably would have broken if he went back to Rutgers for his senior year). Ricky is older but he missed a lot of hits with his "issues" and retirement. He does have good hands. Some guys make a great first impression and then fade away. Ricky will try hard to prove himself before he would go slack. In the short term this move will pay off.

I don't understand how people are saying Willis is better than Ricky Williams. Look at the numbers from last year. Both were in similar roles. Advantage Ricky.

Love the signing. Let's get Lee Evans.

Compare their 2009 stats (or the the previous few seasons before 2009) and get back to me...Willis got shafted by Cam last year.

Ricky had a pretty good year in 09...

241 carries for 1,121 yds and 11TD's at 4.7ypc
35 catches for 264 yds and 2TD's

Willis had...

109 carries for 544 yds and 12TD's at 5.0ypc
15 catches for 85 yds and 2TD's

"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

Rice,Leach Williams makes for a better RB Tandem than Rice, Mcclain, McGahee.

The key here is really Leach. If he can do for Rice what he did for Foster everybody wins (except the stiller Defense).

Yeah, didnt mean to turn this into a Willis vs Williams thing. I wanted Ronnie Brown, but Ricky is basically a 'more experienced' version. Here's to Cam not screwing us over again this year

I pity the fool who doesn't pick him. They did sign Vickers who is no slouch at the FB position. Not as good as Leach but still a very good FB.

I just found that out now, I'm out of the loop! How embarrassing
