exactly! so why are cats "trying" to make his distant past an issue now that he is coming to the Ravens? smh!

Because with some people, unless it was their idea, or something they expected, they only see the negatives in a situation.

why are we talking about negative stuff? has anyone seen his documentary? the guy had some problems and he was self medicating. he's not a hoodlum. he doesn't cause distractions that hurt the team. he works hard and shows up every week. he loves football. that's why when he was drafted by new orleans it was his idea to have an incentive based contract. he wanted to earn his money. i wouldn't be surprised if it was his idea this time too. dead thread

I assume he will be the tokin goal-line back. With his experience in the wildcat he should be a good runner and find the open holes in short yard situations and with Vonta Leach leading the way it may end up solving some red zone scoring issues the Ravens had last season.
I think you may be right here.

Whoever had Rice in fantasy drafts just took a bit hit...

Of course, just like in '09, with McGahee getting 124 touches, and 14 TDs, and RR getting 332 touches with 8 TDs... it may not make Ray ecstatic, but Ravens TDs are the key, not Rice TDs...

Man why not?! That's not a bad idea. Maybe a new goal-line formation? Who knows?

$2 million a year...???

Better than 6 million a yr from Willis, i personally didnt think we needed a back up with Parmalee and A. Allen.

Whats the point of having Parmalee if we arnt going use him other than Special Teams.

Also i thought we needed a Back up Center more than a RB. I really dont feel comfortable with Birk honestly.
Per a league source, Williams signed a two-year deal. It’s worth up to $4 million.
UP TO....its actually $2.5M with escalators. Cap hit this year is more than likely around $1M.

Did you look at Parmele's 2010 preseason? 24 carries for 29 yards. Some running backs would kill to have 24 carries in the preseason. He just hasn't showed anything.

Actually, that incentive-laden contract in New Orleans was what happens when you let Master P negotiate on your behalf. Apparently, Ricky never got the memo that rappers-turned-CEOs aren't great businessmen unless you're Diddy or Jay-Z.

I really like the move. Ray and Ricky should do some work. Short game with Leach leading Ricky should be pretty potent. :18_1_301:

He must be doing something right. but before you go and find the 2011 list, i'll tell you right now that jay z and diddy are both higher than master p now. but still, to be on top with 650 mil. after 10 years is still pretty impressive. He had like 1 single. everything he made was with his business skills.

Yeah I think he had to hit 1500 yards a season for one of the incentives. Clearly the contract was not in Rickys favor.

Master P had an empire with No Limit Records and a plethora of hit singles in the late '90s, early '00s. But that's neither here nor there.

Staying closer to the topic and the point I was making, you don't hire a rapper or any other non-lawyer or non-agent (most agents have legal backgrounds) to negotiate your contract, especially considering the amount of legalese that goes into a contractual agreement.

Well if he isnt producing then let just get rid of him, if we dont, then let him return punts or kick offs. But i want to see more of him this preseason. I want to see A. Allen more, his highlights on youtube in collage look amazing. Dude has skill, he has power and finesse.

Now, if Oz finds a way to tighten up that OL with Shaun O'Hara, Ravens=NFL 2011 World Champions! Our rushing attack will be sick with Leach and if Ricky keeps pace at his 4.4 ypc to compliment Ray. The entire league will be spooked, and this will open up the passing game using play-action. Salute once again to Sir Ozzie.

Yeah, some disparaging remarks - LINK. To be fair, though, Sparano, Henne, and Marshall deserve to be ripped on - all have been disappointments in their own right. Remember back in 2008 when Jim Zorn and Tony Sparano were mentioned in the same breath as Harbaugh and Mike Smith? HA!

Ricky made those comments as an upcoming UFA and sounded like he had no intention on returning to Miami.

Oops , i meant to write this in my other post, even though i dont think we needed another running back, im still excited for R.Williams, i 've been a fan of him for yrs. Back in the day when he first played for The Fins , i would watch the games if they were on only to watch Ricky with his jukes and spin moves. Man his spin moves were amazing.

I thought we were going for the youth players and Vets that weren't too old, 34 yrs is old in football yrs, Even though Ricky didn't play for i think 2 yrs from being banned for smoking weed. Lolol so he should be fresher than his age honestly.

Anyone seen the 30 for 30 - Ricky Williams piece. I thought it was interesting, even though the guy i think is pretty out there i still like him.

Were you listen to the 105.7 The Fan because they were talking about that for a hot minute about an hr and half ago. Sounds good in theory , hope it works. But the other Defense will already be stack close to the line of scrimmage.

I honestly want to see Joe in the shot gun more, A lot of teams are doing or have been doing for a while now. They say it used to be more of a collage thing. (i honestly don't know because i don't watch Collage football) But all i hear is Joe is more comfortable from the shot-gun position anyways. I know he would benefit from it anyways because he would atleast get an extra second , which would be good for the Deep Balls anyways.

I like the move but hate that I drafted Ray Rice in fantasy...
I seriously wouldn't even worry about that too much. They aren't going to rob Ray of his touches, and hopefully they get more creative this year so we dont end up having goal line/end zone situation and we start scoring from the 20 and back. Look what Leach did for Foster, Rice>Foster

Care to explain why adding a bruiser back to compliment Rice is a "super bad move"?

The contract's value and the negatives of Ricky's background are overblown and overrated. I don't think there's any reason for us to worry. It's minimal-risk, medium-reward.

My buddy is a major Dolphins fan who has been watching every game since at least the last 8 years I've known him. He kept rambling on last year about giving one RB more carries and another RB less carries and general team specific gripes.

When I asked him to clarify (because I don't pay attention to naggers) he said Ricky was doing great, real explosive, playing very well, and he wanted Ricky to get more carries and Ronnie to have less.

Ricky should be a great complement to Ray Rice. I can't say that I felt this backup runningback problem was the issue though, because good RBs are a dime a dozen. The issue is at right tackle. Will Cousins have improved enough to face the starting LOLBs and LEs of the league? I'll be watching him on Thursday.

edit: and he also said some great things about Ricky's pass blocking. One thing that bothered me about McGahee and McClain was their pass blocking. Even Rice. In the playoffs last year we actually shifted the line right and put 2 RBs on James Harrison. One dove at his feet and groveled/crawled there and the other missed him completely. Flacco had no chance.

No chance in hell.

Still say this is a downgrade from McGahee, so our running game hasnt really improved by adding Ricky Williams. Not that it matters since Cam seemed intent on running the wheels off Rice last year anyway, not leaving much snaps for the other backs.
