Leonard Davis at RG and Yanda out to RT, theres no way Reid/Cousins can contain Woodley anyway.
Y'know, I like that idea.

People don't give Yanda credit for holding Woodley to 0 sacks through 3 games last year. I'd much prefer a Davis/Yanda combination than Yanda/Reid or Cousins.

What about Marc Columbo?
He signed with the Phins over a week ago. You know a little bit of research would help, like five seconds.

Is Shaun O'Hara still available? If we want interior depth, especially at Center, he's probably the best option.

The big man's going to have his hands full with Trent Cole, Jason Babin, and company.

For the RT spot I'd say it is between Jah Reid and Oniel Cousins. I'm uncertain who will be the Center but the Ravens need some insurance due to Birk's injury and making sure all the precautions are taken so the OL is in good shape before the regular season starts.

I'm guessing Cousins will start, so he'll see those guys. First team O and D usually just play for 1 series on the first preseason game if I'm not mistaken.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jah started over Cousins. Regardless, Andy Reid has said his first team unit starters will play the entire first quarter, so the Ravens tackles will be in for a challenge.

Cousins has the inside due to his familiarity with the schemes. Still, Reid is a big boy and will be in there eventually.

Have some faith, Jah has been impressive at camp stone walling seasoned veterans of the league. We trusted michael Oher, when he was a rookie, and he held Mathis and Dwight freeney (arguably the 2nd best pass rushing tandem at its time, next to harrison and woodley) to no sacks. I believe in you Jah!

After Rudy Niswanger was signed by Detroit, there are no quality centers left....Birk better be a go this season.

Also, Babin and Jenkins arent on the Eagles first team yet. They released their depth chart and a lot of the new guys (most likely due to lack of practice time) are still considered 2nd teamers. Who knows if thatll hold up for the preseason game, but I imagine it might, which is good bc we'll get to see the young guys against quality competition.

I hate to be Johnny Raincloud, but...

We all know we're set with Grubbs at LG, Oher at LT, and Yanda at RG...

However... it's highly questionable whether Birk will be available on Sept. 11th vs. Pitt.

So let's look at the rest of the roster:

Non-Rookie OLinemen:

Oniel Cousins - 4 career starts
Ramon Harewood - 0 career starts
Bryan Mattison - 0 career starts

And, the Rookies:

T Jah Reid
C Ryan Bartholomew
C Tim Barnes

and... T Kyle Calloway, T Brady Bond, T Eric Vandel Huevel, T Andre Ramsey, G Justin Boren and G Colin Madison.

In all likelihood, two of the 5 positions on the line, one month from tomorrow, will be filled by this group. All of the OLine backups will be filled by this group.

Everyone is assuming that Reid will be entirely capable of filling the RT spot... but - at the risk of sounding rather negative, remember that Reid is a 3rd round draft pick, and...

Adam Terry was a 2nd rounder.
Oniel Cousins was a 3rd rounder.
Chris Chester was a 2nd rounder.
Casey Rabach was a 3rd rounder.

I'm just sayin...

Reid was also a 3rd round pick who we traded up for, so the coaches were high on him way before camp. Yanda was also a third round pick. Birk was a 6th round pick. I'm not expecting Reid to come in and have a Oher-like rookie season at RT, but I do expect that he performs better than Chester did last year at RG.

I have to admit I am concerned about the lack of depth on our offensive line, but I think that Cousins can be serviceable for short periods during games. I don't want him starting in the case of injury. I do expect us to sign a center to fill in for Birk as his injury could be serious.

Failed logic, Marshal Yanda was a third and played solid, all 16 games at RT. Jahri Evans, although a RG, was a 4th rounder, and he's arguably the best RG in the NFL. It's not uncommon for great OL to be picked in the mid and even late rounds. Not uncommon at all, especially RTs.

It's failed logic to suggest that because a player in the past has been drafted at the same position in the same round, he will have equivalent success.

Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round.
Tyrod Taylor was drafted in the 6th round.
Therefore, Tyrod Taylor will have the equivalent success that Tom Brady has enjoyed.

No.

My point was, that Ravens OLine draft choices - four over the last several years - have not panned out, even though they've been in the 2nd and 3rd round.

That's not a knock on Mr. Newsome. Outside the 1st round, many OLine draftees are misjudged, only on size & strength, etc.

Yes, Reid could - and hopefully does - have the equivalent success that Yanda has. However, many people are putting their RT hopes in Reid for week 1, against Lamar Woodley, when rookie OLinemen are a shaky proposition, at times.
