I 2nd this motion. I mean, if things would have been handled a bit differently, this thread wouldnt even exist. I mean really? Jericho Cotchery? I'd take T.O. with a torn ACL over him.

Reports are saying there are mixed signals, some say we have a small interest, others say Jericho is interested in the Ravens, and yet others say the Ravens have no interest in Cotchery.

now, unless i see some new on the main page announcing some new signing...i just dont care anymore, i'll focus on who we do have

Jets fans seem pretty upset that they didn't keep Cotchery. I think he is a much better player than we realized based on what seems like pretty much a consensus reaction. Despite the fact that he is another possesion receiver maybe we should go after this guy.

This is pretty pathetic that we seem to be relying on this guy as our fall back option. Give Hardy a chance

Uhh i think the majority of ppl in this thread said they didnt want Jericho Cotchery

i know im not relying on him, i think our young guys will step up but at the same time if the front office can work out a trade to bring a veteran WR into the mix i think that couldnt hurt

Take away Flacco and our QB's have 0 throws in the NFL. Take away Reed and our safeties have 0 INTs.

Having only one veteran WR isn't a bad thing. This team just isn't used to it. Maybe our WRs don't have much NFL experience, but that doesn't mean they don't know how to catch.

In our Super Bowl year (again I compare us to them) our only vet WR was Qadry Ismail with Tony Banks and Trent freaking Dilfer lofting him the ball.
I'm not arguing that youth is a bad thing. After all, wasn't it what we were clamoring for after it was decided that "last year all our WRs were old and slow"? I was just showing just how little experience we have outside of Boldin.

I also agree with the Superbowl year comparison to an extent. You have to take into account that we also had a damn good TE in Shannon, but we're also relying on youth in that position. (I am looking forward to seeing more of Dickson/Pitta don't get me wrong) The situations are somewhat similar, but I think a lot more relies on Joe this year to make it all work.

Why??? See when you use words like despite, and even though, that means you know something isn't right but you still want to pursue it.

This teams doesn't need another possession receiver. He'd be a good fit for the Jets because they really don't have a vertical game, they have a passing game designed around catch and run guys.

The Ravens are looking for WRs who can actually help us make plays down field. So why sign another possession guy for everyone to scream how he's being misused?

Cotchery is no better then Mason, and is even more inconsistent then Housh, I can't see why we are soo desperate enough to sign this guy. But maybe I'm missing something.

Nobody including the Ravens are relying on him, but there is this perception that the Ravens are straved for WR help. Late Breaking News........We actually cut Mason and Heap, they didn't walk away or retire.

So with Cotchery being the biggest name at WR left in FA, he's gonna be linked to us.

To be honest, I don't even know why he's still a story. But hopefully after Thrusday we can talk about the guys that we do have, instead of all these guys we don't even want.

I dont think this will be that great of a move for us. I really wanted Malcom there in Baltimore, I thought he woulda made a great target being tall with Flacco. I have faith in the young WRs this year, i think they will do just fine. We have power in Boldin, we need speed now to cover down the feild.

Cant wait for football to start up!!
*We got the Steelers number this year, I feel it!*

Rather stick with what we have now, Boldin will tear it up this year without Mason as long as Cam uses the rookies to stretch the feild.

Im ready to see the youth movement ball out.
i've been saying this as well!

our FO drafted these young pups for a reason. let's see what that reason is this season by giving them the "opporturnity" to step up and ball!

Anquan Boldin Steve Smith (ideal 3 year, 12 million)
Torrey Smith Tandon Doss
David Reed Marcus Smitth
I wouldn't mind Cotchery either, that is if we can't agree to terms with Smith and/or his injury doesn't heel. Cotchery's more of a #3 though.

Not people in this thread, but the perception of the front office that's generated by media

I thought that they weren't truly interested. I've never had anything against Cotchery. He's not exactly what we are looking for, but depth isn't something that would hurt us at WR.

Just because we sign a guy doesn't mean we have to use him all the time.

If we do sign a vet, I hope it doesn't take away to many opportunities from the young guys, we need to make sure they get experience rather than hope they grow from watching.

True, but Housh had a year in the offense. Both Housh and Cotchery are washed up, but Housh knows the offense better than Cotchery. And mhead66, just because Steve Smith got hurt, you wouldnt sign him?
Actually, IF he's healthy... (and that's a big IF, because he had microfracture surgery, which can be devastating), he would be an excellent pickup, depending on how much he wants.

He's only 26 and had 107 receptions for 1120 yards in '09, before he got hurt.

If he's healthy, I think he's probably the best FA WR option available.

I hope we don't sign him. I'd much rather go with what we have or go after Lee Evans if possible.
Evans would be excellent on our team, with a reliable Qb who could get the ball to him consistently.

Or we could go with Housh.

Or even Steve Smith.

Or....... go with our young guns at the spot. Anything but adding Cotchery... LOL

Honestly i think we are waiting for the Bills to cut Lee Evans. I'd much rather have Evans anyways. Im pretty sure he burned us in last seasons games, i think he had over 100 yards on us that game.

Do we even have any money to pay these guys right now? I thought we needed to get Ngata's contract done first in order to make any room for any more deals over 1M.

Us cutting Mason showed that we want our youth to start ballin out, i wouldn't want anyone else beside Mase so i think we should keep our rookies starting unless we sign someone who is willing to eventually take a backseat to someone like Doss/Smith/Reed/Williams or whomever..
