Do the new customers have to commit for 2 years, with the 2nd year being at full price?

Also, do you qualify for the offer if you're moving?
Are you talking two years of tv service or nflst? Tv service, yes....nflst, no.

Second question I'd say no but call and argue with them a bit.

I think their goal is to have you watch NFLST and get hooked. If they can get you addicted, they've got you hooked for many, many years. *See me as example*

Well I went to the website and it said "Ask about getting Sunday Ticket" if you're moving. Wasn't sure what that meant.

Being the sucker I am for the NFL, I might end up signing up for a dumb contract.

I wanted to know if anyone knows if they try to get you somehow ahead of time.

Yeah, I've had DirecTV for the past 4 years, since moving to Chicago.

They got me hooked by the same deal - Sunday Ticket for free (the first year). Of course, it's not free subsequent years. I think I pay almost $400 ADDITIONAL on my bill each year just for Sunday Ticket. They add a little to your bill each month over 4-6 months at the beginning of the season.

It used to be worse - they had the football season stuff divided up - had to pay to get Sunday Ticket, then you also had to purchase "Super Fan" or something like that to get it in HD... at least they cut that out!

I keep DirecTV now just for the Sunday Ticket, tho! It's damn expensive, but worth it. The wife doesn't like it tho, she wants to go back to comcast for the on-demand stuff. I think I'm gonna have to suck it up and actually run some cat5 to the receiver - once I do that, DirecTV has ondemand just like comcast. (When are they gonna get off their butts and add wireless to our HD DVR's?)

When is DTV's deal with the NFL supposed to end? Or will it ever? I'm waiting for the day when NFL Game Pass on NFL.com will do what Sunday Ticket is doing, so I can cancel all TV services and setup a Roku Box or something.

They signed a $4 billion dollar extension back in '09 to cover the NFL thru the end of the 2014 season.

Yeah, one year with NFLST and I was hooked. That was almost a decade ago.
I just love being able to watch every game on the t.v. at one time via split screen.

I think I read somewhere there's a clause that allows the NFL to void the last two years of the deal. Doubt they'd do it, though.

I hate this.... current customers get screwed. At the very least since it's FREE to new customers, current customers should only have to pay Half or get the first 2 Months of the Season Free, to balance things out and to not completely piss off current customers.

It's like how I felt when I bought my house in 2008. Which was much worse.

Government was giving a 7.5k repayable loan to new home buyers. I bought my house in Oct 2008. Then in Jan 2009 they passed a revision to that law where new home buyers get 8K, that they don't need to repay!

But the people who bought new homes in Oct-Dec 2008 still had to pay back the 7.5k (me). Its a joke.

Direct TV is once again giving away NFL Sunday Ticket for FREE in Week 1 just like they did last year. So at least you'll be able to experience Sunday Ticket for Free, which begs the question, if they show it for free in Week 1, why not wait until Week 2 to start your subscription of Sunday Ticket?

I keep the Directv for Sunday Ticket but I use Comcast for my HS Broadband. Comcast definitely has the best internet options.

Anyone use the NFLST mobile app? Does it only work with WiFi or will 3G coverage work?

I have to be at a South African cookout for the early part of Sunday.

From what my neighbor told me, he believes it works with both, though a Wifi connection is recommended for obvious quality reasons. He's no longer a subscriber so he can't go back and check for you.

I do. Extremely choppy on 3G. It can be quite frustrating. You just have to hope you have a really good signal where you are.

Will it use a boat load of MBs of GBs to watch.....AKA, will I pay through the nose just to watch on 3G?

Judging from the data consumption of my Slingbox on my phone last month, I'm assuming it could go into a GB or so for the game. If you have an unlimited data plan, no biggie. If you have a data cap, different story...

In that case, since it appears that they're forcing you into a 2-year agreement, it's not personally worth it for me to make the switch. I don't really need Sunday Ticket since I get Ravens games via antenna, but it would've been nice to see every NFL team's games with DVR controls and the whole nine yards. Just not worth it for me to have the Sunday Ticket free one year and then have to pay for it the next season if I want to keep it.
