Clock Management

8 posts in this topic

Week 1 brought us many new and exciting things. Our Rookie QB looked anything but, our offensive line was very, very solid, our D, well it's the Ravens D (nuff said), and our offense looked crisp and fun!

However, behind the scenes, the management of the play and game clock was a breath of fresh air. I believe there was maybe one delay of game on the O (which was bogus because the refs spotted the ball late, among other things) and Joe was constantly at the line with a good 15-18 seconds left on the play clock! Remind you of anyone? Not only that aspect, but Coach Harbaugh's use of timeouts, etc. was excellent, and even though we burned two early in the second half, those weren't on him... your thoughts on the new tempo and clock management prowess?

The clock management was excellent in this game and seems to be improved a bunch from the past season. It helps us with 2 things, keeping the game at our pace and keeping our defense fresh on the sidelines. So I hope we can continue this play because we will definitely need it against people like the Steelers and the Cowboys where our defense MUST be fresh to give us a chance. The clock management is going to help make our team that much better.

keeping the chains moving through successfull running game is the main reason that we can close out games. i think that lorenzo neal is helping out a lot for mcclain, but even though, he is busting out some huge gains.

Imagine if the Ravens held the ball for like 10 min like the Giants did during the 1st quarter of the Super Bowl. Id be amazed by that and imagine how much energy our defense would have.

Just goes to show you how an Offense makes the defense better, and visa versa. I know you guys hear the commentators say that all the time :D

The offense ran 75 plays. Last year we averaged 65 plays a game. This is a huge increase in tempo.

Harbaugh concentrates on managing the entire game overall, not one aspect of the game. We had a rookie QB changing calls making reads and adjustments. McNair was not given this much leeway with multiple pro bowls and a decade of experience on his resume.

I am absolutely loving the change across the board. If Harbaugh was not hired I guarantee we would have seen Flynn at center, LeRon getting very few carries, no Lorenzo Neal, Terry kept at reserve instead of playing RT and Boller being touted as the starter even after his shoulder injury.

This goes to show you how much faith he puts into his coaches. He hs taught the method of work he wants this team to reflect from and trusts his coaches to get that down to the players. He brought in these guys because they are some of the best in the business and he knew that they would buy into what he had to bring to the table. I don't think he will be stepping on anyones toes, he will let these guys do what they were brought in here to do or he will find someone that will. Harbaugh is a very likeable person and seems to be true to his word..he will go along way with that and I hope the Ravens continue to follow the lead.
