You could say "right place right time, as well as a bad decision" on 95% of interceptions. If that's all it took, then why couldn't Carr be in the "right place right time" more times than Wilson last year when he started 7 more games than him?
a lot of it has to do with chance, maybe the QB didnt throw towards Carr..Nnamdi doesnt make many INTs the past few years but everyone wanted him...INTs arent a gauge of good CB play

id rather take a chance with steve smith
He has not even been cleared to play yet. He'll miss a least a month of football because of his knee.

We just cut 1800 yards of receiving from last year. Who's going to provide that (or more, which is what we should be getting) this year? If Torrey Smith gets 900 yards this year, we'd still need another 900 between Dickson, Doss and Reed. And that's just to maintain the same level of production from last year, which I don't think any of us were actually happy with.
I think Dickson, Doss, and Reed could easily combine for 1000+ yards. I doubt Torrey will hit 900, probably closer to 600. I think Doss will put up a similar amount of yards. Dickson and Pitta could easily match what Heap gave us last year. My only concern is about how they play in crunch time because none of them have been there. When its 3rd and 12 and we are down 4 in the 4th is where we will miss Heap and Mase.

Teams were throwing at Carr plenty. He had more tackles than anybody else on the team except Ray Lewis and Dawan Landry. That's a bad stat for a CB. I'm not saying Carr's a bad corner, I'm saying in every measurable way Josh Wilson was the best corner on our team last year.

We resigned Yanda, we are going to resign Ngata. Just with those two right there we take care of our own FAs. Yanda is one of the best OL in the league, and Ngata is the best in the league at his position. It's huge to lock those guys up long term.

We got the best FB in the league, which will instantly help our running game. We got depth at CB and safety with resigning Carr and signing Pollard. Our biggest need right now is to get another C, with Birk's health being a big question.

Yes, we are being optimistic about Smith and Doss. Maybe they don't pan out. Maybe it will take them a year to get used to the NFL. But acting like Floyd is Andre Johnson is ridiculous. He would probably would have gotten 35 catches, 400 yards, and 4-5 TDs this year for us. Sure they aren't horrible numbers, but I feel like our rookies, Hardy, Reed, Dickson, and Pita, could all be that guy for us.

This happens every year, teams rush out and throw loads of money at all the names people know, and some fans start freaking out saying the Ravens FO is awful, Ozzie has failed, the world is ending, ect. Ozzie plays everything very smart, he knows the players he wants, and he is patient. Remember how our CB situation was looking bleak last year? Then we got Josh Wilson out of nowhere, and were 3rd best in the league in pass defense. He isn't going to be the Redskins or the Eagles and try and buy a one year SB shot. He builds the team to be a contender every year.

Remember, ever since we drafted Flacco we made the playoffs and won a playoff game. We are the only team to do that, so I would say we are doing something right. If Flacco continues to improve like he has been, then he is going to make all of our other players look better this year. So why don't we just sit back, relax, and let the Ravens take care of themselves, while we just watch football.

Oh and one more thing to remember, we have big contracts to sign next year. Flacco, Rice, and I think Grubbs too. So we can't just spend all of the cap and hope to keep our players around next offseason.

and dont try to tell me yanda being signed was the biggest thing ever.. it isnt.. i really feel like he played TERRIBLY last year
Would love the explanation on this statement here...he was in my opinion our best Offensive Lineman last year would love to know how he played "terribly". To your other point, Chris Carr is very solid at CB and been showing good improvement every year.

We are getting younger as a team and still contenders I dont understand why a lot of fans are upset.

Exactly. I thought he could've struggled at RT, and understandably so. But he followed his '09 campaign with another impressive season.

I would love to be that optimistic. 1200 for Torrey and Tandon would be an absolute coup. Look, anything is possible, but we're basically betting on a LOT of unlikely things going right for this offense to be able to be better than last year's.

Nobody said Floyd was Andre Johnson. And what reason could you have for his projected numbers being that low? He pulled in over 700 yards in each of his last two seasons. He'd be targeted more in our offense than in San Diego, too.

Maybe...we are going to be focusing on the run a lot more which I believe will open up the playaction and the young TEs will get a lot of targets this year.

But the reaction from fans is like we lost Andre. I have his numbers that low for a few reasons, I don't really trust Cam to use him properly, I think we would play Smith/Doss more than him, our run game will hopefully be much improved, I think our TEs are going to get a lot of looks this year

Hopefully we can get steve smith from NY or bring back Mase. then interior O lineman and were good. floyds not a fantastic WR, calm down. Hes just 6"5 but so is Ed Dickson. Id rather have Mase cause he knows the offense and will help Doss and T.Smith. :argdancingravensblueonwkk8:

I think the Moss ship has sailed. The only team he'd come out of retirement for is the Pats, and they don't want him.
I think Moss would come out of retirement for any winning team (i.e.; that had a shot at the SB) that threw money at him (i.e.; showed him the respect he thinks he deserves and is used to). And I think he'd play hard for that team too. From everything I heard and read, his retirement had everything to do with feeling insulted at the offers he got and nothing to do with only wanting to play for the Pats. There are rumors that the Pats offered Moss a one-year deal to come back to them, but he obviously turned that down. And he was also presumably interested in the Jets before they signed Plax.

I don't think he'd be a good fit on the Ravens though. I just can't see him having good chemistry with Harbaugh, Flacco, and Boldin. For some reason, I keep envisioning Boldin and Moss getting into a fist fight on the sidelines, and then at some point later, Boldin and Moss ganging up on Flacco and screaming at him.

It's not about JUST missing out on Malcom Floyd. It's the fact that we've lost or cut a massive amount of important players and are left to pray that their production is immediately replaced by a bunch of rookies or 2nd year players. This is an aggregated amount of frustration that has been building steadily since we found out they were cutting Heap, Mason, and Gregg.

And what's wrong with that? People are complaining as if the production Mason, Heap, Gregg and McGahee put up in 2010 can't be equaled or exceeded by young players.

Edit: Watch that play again. Wilson anticipated that the throw would be short and jumped the route. That's not like some interception where a DT tips the ball into the air and the CB just happens to be standing right underneath of it when it comes down. Wilson made that play about as well as any CB could be expected to.
That's all interceptions are most of the time, right place right time and usually a bad throw. INTs are not a good way to gauge a DB imo. Also how is tackles a bad stat, Carr helped against the run last year. Tackles are in no way shape or form a bad stat for a DB imo.

exactly!

cats in here (myself included) have screamed for our team to get "younger" and "faster" at various postions (i.e. WR/CB spots) and now...that the Ravens have done that with; T. Smith, T . Doss, J. Smith, C. Brown, J. Reid, A. Allen, Dickson and Pitta, and cats in here are STILL COMPLAINING???

i am excited that our young pups will FINALLY get their chance to step up and shine. training camp is good! practice is good! learning from the "vets" is good BUT the best experience is IN-GAME experience. now that, you can't get from riding the pine!

i expect great things from this present Ravens squad!

I agree, I can't wait to watch all these young guys. One of the biggest complaints about this team was that they were too old, now people are complaining because we are too young just because we released a few vets. BTW Mason may still be signed back, but and I may get negged for this i hope it is for depth mostly. If we get Mason back, I want our young guys out there.

I agree, I have sold myself on the idea of tossing our young guys into the fire, and letting them just learn and play. If Mason comes back I hope it doesn't change that plan because I am really excited to see what they can do. The pre season can't come soon enough.

This is actually what I expected. I'm not really angry. It'll be nice to see what all the young players can do.

But if Mason is brought back, I will be upset.

I would only be upset if he is going to be our #2 WR. I would like him brought in as depth, in case Smith, Reed, and/or Doss aren't doing it this season.

It would also be good to have a vet just in case Q gets hurt (knock on wood) He has had some injuries in the past

For the people who are reacting like the Ravens were left in a bad spot after cutting Heap and Mason, remember this. Those guys wouldn't have been cut if the Ravens didn't trust and have high expectations for the guys behind them.

If cutting those players was just about creating Cap room, then guys like JJ, Foxworth and Birk would have been cut also, or instead.

However those guys weren't cut because we didn't feel we had reliable options behind them. Kindle is still a unknown, cutting Foxworth before knowing you'd get Carr back, would have left Webb as the only CB on the team who played last year, and we really don't have a backup center. So those guys are still needed.

As good as they've been and as loved as they are, Heap and Mason were no longer "Needed" for this offense to be successful. It would have been great to keep those guys and maybe Mason will come back. However his signing doesn't make us nor break us.

It'd just add some comforted that we have another vet for our young guys to learn from.

The Ravens were willing to cut Mason and risk losing him, so even if he's brought back, don't be surprised to see the young guys taking a lot of snaps and catches away from Mason.

Class is in session. O.K. Now current rosters stand at 90 players. By opening weekend each team must be down to 46 active players. This would mean each team has to cut, trade, release, whatever 44 players.Given that there are 31 teams other than the Ravens that would be 1364 players that have to be let go (give or take,IR, PUP,etc..). Let the system play itself out and we will see what we will see. Trust me we're Ravens!

Joking? Pacman is done and I would take ANY one of our 5th or 6th corners over him.
