And for those eager to point out our "young WRs", I should remind you that rookie WRs pretty much never put up more than 500 yards per season. Last year Dez Bryant, the receiver drafted highest in 2009, was the ONLY rookie WR to do it and even he got over 500 just barely. Heap, Mason and Housh made up 1800 of Joe's 3600 yards last year. If we get even 700 yards combined out of Doss and T. Smith next year, it will be a miracle. The only chance we have right now to make up any lost production from last year is for Dickson to step up, but how much can a TE do? Even Antonio Gates caught for only 700 last year.

Why do we hear this every year? Even though we continually have a good team. Someone please tell me why?
this is not the same as last year. we got rid of freakin HEAP and MASON and we have signed a fullback and a SS.. our offense is going to drop off so much. Thats why. this hasnt really happened recently.

Happy Mason is back.
What? He hasn't decided yet. He said he'd take the weekend to make a decision.

I just want to say that Ozzie didn't fail in the free agency. Leach and Yanda will make a difference. He has other things in mind. It all gets back to money. Do we want to rush and sign Ngata to a contract that he is not happy with? Can we afford to lose Rice and/or Flacco next year? What is worse, overpaying a guy and have him disappoint you, or having to wait for a young draftee to gradually improve over the course of the season? Rice, Q, Dickson and Pitta will be much better this year. Give Doss and Smith and some time and they will give you something to scream about. Let Mason go and the young kids will have a chance to grow. Birk will be back in a few weeks. Let's see who is ready to step up when he retires at the end of the season. We are not getting any high priced free agents.

i really wouldnt rather not go that route, ever team he's played for he's brought drama

dont need him
He didnt really bring much drama to the Bengals last year or even to the Bills the year before that.

Honestly, I wouldnt be very opposed to that right now. TO would be better than anyone else left on the market except Steve Smith (either one are fine imo). A trade for Lee Evans would be nice too.

We didn't put all our eggs in one basket like the eagles. They MAY go all the way but they may not. and after this year, they'll have to worry about the cap next year. We're thinking long term
Many of eagles deals have 1 yr opt out clauses and 1yr contract this means eagles are renting players like the Jets

I knew I forgot somebody. My bad. Still, so out of an entire draft, ONE guy got enough yards to qualify as a No. 1 or No. 2 receiver, a few guys got close enough to qualify as a 3rd receiver, and a whole bunch more (including everybody else from the 1st and 2nd rounds) got 300 yards or less. Again, if we're relying on our rookies to save our pass offense this year, we'd all better start praying Ozzie finally figured out how to draft them.

I for one am excited for this team whether we bring anyone back or not. I'm excited to see our new faces and possible new starters. I'm excited to watch both the Smith's, Doss, Dickson, Pitta, Kindle, Pollard, Cody, and Leach. I'm excited to see if Foxworth can continue his great play he was having towards the end of 2009. I'm excited to see if JJ can bounce back from playing injured. I'm excited to see who is going to win the RT job. I'm sure the Ravens aren't done in FA or possibly trade someone. I'm am really excited for the Ravens this year whether or not we get anyone else.

Just my $0.02

If TO didn't injure himself, I would have been campaigning for him at the start of free agency. I'm a TO fan, but that injury prevents me from wanting him on this team. He was easily the Bengals best receiver last season.

On a one year contract, TO would be harmless though.

Man this is the worst off season in recant memory now we are relying on a bunch of rookies.I not looking forward to getting beat by the steelers. How they could have been 8+ mil over cap and not have to release anyone but we had let go of a lot of key guys because of the cap? They just restructured the contracts of there players and kept them all we could have done that to.So all this crap about us having to let those guys go because of the cap is CRAP!

Teams have to be under the cap today, there still could be some new players on the FA market within 24 hours.

The roster isn't finalized until september.

Well, he would have to pass a physical and considering the injury and the much reduced demand on the market he would come for very cheap. Same goes with Steve Smith, who is coming off injury.

But, personally, I'm still crossing my fingers for Moss.

So we try to sign O'Hara. Woopdidoo.. Ozzie has epicly failed this offseason. we still have the same problems we had BEFORE the lockout. no pass rush, no proven deep threat WR, no proven Number one CB..

please give me reasons to feel better.

Oh please, come on people. We are not so desperate that we need to start calling T.O. Dude just had knee surgery, he's old as dirt, and he's spent his entire career getting run out of wherever he's played. We didn't want him 5 years ago when he could still play, why the heck would we want him now?

I think the Moss ship has sailed. The only team he'd come out of retirement for is the Pats, and they don't want him.

Hopefully this is a byproduct of watching Leach in practice and thinking "Man, we may not even have to throw the ball." LOL

What did you expect them to do? they were rookies sitting behind a very good TE in Todd Heap.

I really wouldnt consider Dickson "sub-par" last year either. I think i remember him making a certain 50 yard reception and then draggin Brian Dawkins for 8 yards or so...

NOT BASHING YOU FOR WHAT I SAY HERE:
but people like you are the reason why this forum gets all wild up. Our team is very good with the people we have now. We dont have to do what the eagles, redskins, etc. do every year and go out and sign 4, 5, 6 players or more. We build THROUGH THE DRAFT and that is what we have been doing. And now we are letting some of those people we drafted (Dickson and Pitta, Kindle hopefully, Cody, and hopefully Jimmy and Torrey Smith) take over at key positions. We will be fine.

This is the thing that nobody seems to want to admit. They kept saying we cut Heap, Mason, and Gregg to make room for Yanda's contract. Well, we got him at $6.5m, which was 1/3rd what we saved by cutting those other three and McGahee. The truth is, we cut those players so we could go into FA with money to spend, and aside from Leach (who I love), we're sitting back and hoping players come to us and take a discount compared to what other teams are willing to spend. All anybody here's trying to say is... if Mason decides to go with the Jets or the Titans, do you really honestly believe we can win a Super Bowl with our 2nd and 3rd WRs being rookies?

things to be excited about...
1. LEEAAAAAAAACCHH
2. Washingtons gone (addition by subtraction in my eye)
3. foxy webb carr have all proven to be just fine at cb
4. lost wilson (-) gained j smith (+)
5. kindle is back on the field and should help the pass rush
6. t smith was drafted to be a deep threat, true hes unproven but thats how oz plans to fix that problem.

this isnt madden we cant get every player we want, "shut down" corners dont grow on trees, theres revis and aso, maybe bailey then theres everyone else (who exactly did u want us to get?)

cap space has been an issue for us as well as 85% of the other teams and probably 95% of the good teams

only problem i still have this offseason is the o line, reids been impressing but who knows and as of right now we pretty much dont have a center

nope it's all mine.

I believe we have enough talent on this team to make up for our two rookie WRs. I also think that if we do not sign anyone else, Smith, Doss, and Reed can be good WRs for us. I also believe Dickson is going to be a really good recieving TE. I'm just gonna wait until Preseason games before I make any judgments on this years team.

Pretty much everything you pointed out besides Leach is based on pure optimism. J. Smith is better than Josh Wilson? How many passes from NFL quarterbacks did Jimmy Smith knock down last year?
