I don't know if somebody posted this, but Art has been given the nod over Cory in practice.

Cousins was playing with the 1st team over Reid - my guess is they just try guys out to see how they do. Jones playing with the first team might not have meant they live him more than Redding, but that also doesn't mean they prefer Redding.

I typed Cory, as in Cory Redding.

I'd love if Jones could start. If he could, and Kruger proves himself a valuable backup (or the other way around, it doesnt matter to me) We can cut Redding and have more cap to play with. Tully Banta-Cain is the pass rusher I have my eye on, since he shouldnt be very expensive and Matt Roth may not be attainable.

Plus, if its enough, we might be able to sign Kreutz and get this center position on lock. The possibilities are endless.

Banta-Cain is injured and has or about to have surgery for an injury I'm not 100% sure of but I remember reading about it right before the Pats cut him.

i totally agree. redding was okay last year and jones really could be the starter this year.might be another great draft pick by the genious ozzie newsome
I think Jones will start, coach seemed pretty happy about how far he's come, Redding wasnt setting the world on fire himself last year, so really things can only get better if Jones is playing well

All I know is it's time for new blood to STEP UP. We see it with our hated rivals. Putting faith in Ozzie and the coaching at this point.

I was thinking that Redding was washed up last year. His best play was picking up the fumble in the Steelers' game.
That was a HUGE heads up play though. Too bad we played the third quarter like the football was greased up.

My bet is Art Jones makes it into the starting lineup, theres quite a bit of buzz surrounding him during these practices. He's already been bumped up to 1st team over Redding in practice, and if he continues to work the way he has, I don't see why he doesn't start week 1. He's been an absolute workaholic, and has shown the results of such dedication. I'm really happy for the guy, he has a really touching story as well. Glad to see him becoming a force.

We really are starting to look POTENTIALLY stacked with young talent on the defensive line.

- Kruger, Jones, Ngata, Cody, Suggs will be locked up playing together for years!

- Kindle is only on a one year deal so if he takes off he could be in for a big pay day much sooner than a typical rookie due to his situation. They should have built club options into Kindle's contract.

Art has already passed Cory Redding on Depth Chart and is taking snaps with the starters. 2 years ago he was considered a 1st round pick but he fell due to injuries. I think working out with his brother has put him in good enough condition to compete, now he just need to work on his mechanics and study the play book. I am hoping he is the starter and I hope Pernell goes beast mode as well in the rotation.

In the later part of last season Redding looked better but I also think Jones wins the starting job. Still hard to believe he dropped so far in the draft.

Redding is making about 3 million this year if I'm not mistaken, I'm all for having proven vets as back ups but in such a tough cap year: Does anyone think there's any chance of cutting Redding to free up $ for another FA?
(just a question)

Absolutely, especially if there is someone we like like Osi Umenyoira and if the Giants let him talk to teams again. I would of liked us to throw more money at Olin Kruetz but I mean, I would rather play in a dome too and block for Drew Brees as well lol.

But yeah, I think we won't cut anyone for the Floyd Deal but if we were to get some Offensive Lineman or a Pass rusher, I feel he would be the first to go.

That's one game I can't watch again. Another one was the loss to the Colts in 2006.

Reports on the injury say he should be ready by the regular season, plus if anything that makes him cheaper to require. Shouldnt cost too much and a proven effective pass rusher out of a 3-4.

Did anyone see him at practice today? He looks like a changed man this year. I'm telling you, I never even thought about him before, but now I'm kinda glad we didn't overspend for a DE.

this is true, I'm stoked man, I watched Jones hang out with his brother and train MMA during the offseason, I think he's going to be a beast on the D-line

Training MMA will help him with his hands too, he'll be better pass rushing

I remember in the draft ppl talked of him as a potential 1st round pick but he fell due to injury?

Divens, McKinney, and Redding are solid players but not starting material on a championship team. I am not sold on Jones yet.

Definitelynot this year. I like Art, but we need to give Kruger a shot this year, before Art.

True and I fully agree with that. I just believe Kruger could start for us. He just hasn't got his chance yet. No disrespect to Art. I think he is good. I just think it will be Krugers time first.

i think because Kruger is a tweener and Art is and has been a DE that he probably had the edge

I like Jones, and I definitely think he can hold onto his starting job. Redding isn't getting younger or better, and while I've good things about Kruger in camp, Jones is bigger, stronger, and has longer arms.
Kruger will stand up far more then have his hand in the dirt this year. I have no proof of this, just a feeling or maybe it's wishful thinking.

Now that's not to say Kruger won't play DE at all, but I don't see him seeing as much time there as Jones and Redding. Those guys are true 5 Techniques imo. Kruger is a guy who can play there but is best suited to be on the Outside.

Kruger has been spending most of his time with the LBs in camp. I hope Pagano is planning on using him in that OLB/DE hybrid type and not just playing the DE.

Yea I was reading through this topic to see if someone had posted that.

Arthur Jones is like a 1st or 2nd round draft pick who we allowed to recover from injury for a year and now we are seeing what he can bring.

Dude has the potential to be a stud, outside of who his brother is, because it really doesn't matter, Jones has the potential to be a household name. Well as much as a 3-4 DE can be a household name.

Cory Redding was a nice pickup last season, but I don't think that ideally the Ravens wanted him to be a long term, or even more then a one year option.

I would not be surprised at all to see Arthur Jones as the Starter opening day. Hell I wouldn't be surprise to see him start Thursday night.

Imo Kindle won't get any more then a 2nd round deal. Even if he has a Suggs type rookie season. But he'll definitely be signed long term, even if he doesn't take off this year. The Ravens just need to know he can play.

As for the young talent, it's not just on the DLine. Look at Kindle, Smith, Webb, McClain, Nakamura, Zibby, Ellerbe and McKinney.

If so called experts call the defense old this year, they clearly aren't paying attention.

Happy to hear that. He should never have been expected to play the five technique in my opinion.

I hope he's deployed the same way.
