$3.5M Under The Cap

45 posts in this topic

So I just read from Hensley that we're $3.5M under the cap. Any idea how far under we would be if we got a deal down w/ Ngata and who you would like for us to pick up this late in the game?

Ive heard that the Ngata signing could open up anywhere between 6-8 million dollars of cap, Ravens also have a 3 million dollar cap exception to work with so their cap is 123 million instead of 12o million...I would love to get this Malcom Floyd deal done, he would bring a great downfield threat to compliment Boldin across the middle

Their are TWO sets of exemptions. Three 1 mil exemptions and ONE three mil exemption.

Ngata extension will free up approx 5 mil according to Aaron Wilson and the Baltimore Sun
Ravens currently under by 3.5 mil according to ESPN
Floyd contract would cause about a 1.5 mil hit on the cap depending on his signing bonus

Therefore, the Ravens would be in the neighborhood of 7 mil under the cap following a Ngata extension and Floyd signing. They would not have used the 6 million in exemptions and would be primed and in good shape to make a run at a player OR saving up for next year when Flacco and Rice are due. You can guarantee that Foxworth will be released in 2012 because he has something like a 7-9 mil cap hit next season and all his signing bonus would be paid out. That will be necessary for sure.

Im interested to see how the corners look in the preseason and how foxworths knee holds up, depending on how much philly wants Asante Samuel could b a good target since I think he is only making 5.5 million this year

I highly doubt that we make a splash at corner. Especially considering we've still not signed anyone to assist the pass rush and we need a center.

yea they definitely need to get a guy like Olin Kreutz in first, too bad it seems like Umenyioras window is closed and even if it were open the price is way too high...would have loved to see him on our defense

I personally want Ngata signed and Malcolm floyd. we have corners with something to prove. we dont need any new people except floyd. and maybe a big power back to compliment ray rice running from rutgers. then were good

Samuel makes 10.5 a year I think, his cap hit might be 5.5 but he isn't a shut down corner he is a big play corner who takes risks, we already have Ed Reed we could spend the money elsewhere. Remember people, the Ravens have to pay Flacco and Rice next season so I don't blame them for saving as much as possible.

If they stay at 7 mil under they cut Foxworth next season, save another 7 mil and then can use the exemptions to free up to 20 mil in salary cap space to extend Flacco (who will cost at least 10+) and Rice who could have a huge payday depending on his season.

In the Oher article on main page it says he is the only LT on roster, that needs to be corrected..as in we need depth

Think about it. The Ravens will have aging veterans coming off the books on defense and all of their young stars locked up for years with no major extensions other than OL

How do you guys feel about starting the season with Jah Reid as the starting RT? Like he was only a 3rd round pick and I think if we aren't going to invest in a backup QB or sign a compliment for Ray Rice then we really need to protect the QB that we have and open up holes for Ray because he is very sucessful when he has space since he's more of an elusive back.

I guess well just have to see how Reid does in the first couple preseason games, its definitely his job to lose...idk how comfortable i feel about that but the coaches know what they r doing

the game is won in the trenches, i do believe a strong O-line and D-line is very important, if I had to choose what to add next it would be OL depth...after we sign Floyd..if we sign him

Agreed. Next priority is OL depth (specifically a back up LT and a vet guard/C)

Jared Gaither, Kreutz, Floyd.

Jared failed his physical so he's probably not even capable of playing. But I wouldent mind having him for a one year deal untill reid learns

Good point. Just found an article stating that, "his salary would force teams to take a more than $9 million cap hit this season."

Samuel definitely is a risk taker. However, he was spectacular in coverage in 2010, giving up an astonishing 31.7 QB rating to opposing Quarterbacks. That $9 million will make it difficult for any team to see the trade through though.

A lot of people bash Asante for jumping routes, but he watches so much game film and is such a great student of the game that he knows what routes the receivers are going to run and when, but really they are much more calculated gambles than people think. He is a very smart football player.

I know we are going to sign Ngata but we are taking our good ol time arnt we. Also i think we are going to wait for the preseason and some people from other teams to get cut to sign (that's how we got Wilson and Housh), well we got Housh because Stallworth got injured. Because the Talent in FA is pretty slim now.

Dam are you serious, man we should have cut him this yr. Especially if we are going to cut him next yr , when he will be better more than likely next season because you know he wont be in full speed coming off that injury, maybe he will get his legs back towards the end of the season which is good but we have to play the Stealers week 1. Which ill be honest am quite nervous about because that will be another blow to the RAVENS and another confidence booster for Pitts. God i can only imagine what the Stealers and fans will say. Also the freaking media and how we cant beat Big Ben.

I think im the only one that thinks thats the last thing we need. I think we are good at the RB position. Im very excited about A. Allen and we still have Parmelle ,also i think we have 2 or even 3 other guys fighting for spots. I say we need to address the Center position and Pass Rush. But i wouldnt mind seeing Samuels in Black n Purple.

I feel like I've already had to explain this 50 times. Cutting Foxworth this season makes 0 sense for the Ravens as it would only save roughly 1.5M in this years cap. Next year, when he is in the final year of his contract it will save considerably more, probably in the 4.5M range. It is plausible that he would be cut then if we still need to clear cap space.

The Jets are handing out big contracts like candy and they're almost 10 mil. under the cap compared to our 3 mil? What's going on here?!

And how are the Raiders 15 (!) mil. OVER the cap? They should be 119 mil. under the cap considering how bad they are. I mean they just lost Asomugha, Zach Miller and Robert Gallery. What a mess that organization is.

They gave big contracts to Stanford Routt, Richard Seymour, and Kamerion Wimbley. Like huge contracts. i believe Seymour got 2 yrs 30 mil, Routt got 3 years 45 mil, and Wimbley got like 5yrs for 55 mil? (not too sure on Routt and Wimbley, but i know they got huge contracts as well).

Oakland is a crap team because they sign big contracts to bad players or players past their primes or just once who are fast....bad contracts
