Wow surprise I mean we already got our safety but after 1 year? I wonder what happened

Seeing as how Jim Harbaugh's Stanford Cardinals played Taylor Mays and the USC Trojans regularly, I think Harbaugh knows more about Mays' strengths and weaknesses than almost any coach outside of Pete Carroll and his USC staff. Harbaugh probably views Mays as a project and he'd rather get value now for a young player while putting in a starter-ready guy on the field Week 1, than have to mold Mays while he's actively starting.

Mays is an athlete. Period. He is a project. If the Ravens had a need for a project at safety, I'd love to see this guy on our team

The funniest thing is, they sent out an email to all 31 teams saying he is on the block. They should've just called one and let it trickle down.

I would agree if we didn't just sign Bernard Pollard. If he had a year or 2 with Ray and Ed would have been good for his career.

If you remember his own college coach Pete Carroll could have drafted him and drafted the safety from Texas instead. That was a huge red flag right there.

Taylor Mays would make an awesome weakside linebacker because he's got speed, yet no coverage skills.

Time to bulk up 20-30 lbs to his frame and see if this project will work.

Darrius Howard Bey is also a athlete, Vernon Gholston too.

Hm Howard Bey, Howard Bey. Doesn't seem to ring a bell. Now Heyward-Bey from Maryland, he's a track star who had the unfortunate luck to get drafted by the Oakland Raiders. Many football players enter that organization and never come out the same. Guess that's what the black whole does to you. Can't explain Gholston. Now Deion Sanders, he was an athlete

I wouldn't call it a red flag. Carroll also cut Tatupu and didn't like Leinart enough to bring him in. Also had a chance to bring Reggie Bush in to. In fact, Mike Williams might not be there too long either considering he's a USC alumni as well

I've been fairly critical of Seattle's offseason decisions, but neither Matt Leinart nor Reggie Bush panned out, so there wasn't much of a reason to bring any of them in. Mike Williams just received a 4 year extension this year.

You know, since we're being grammar Nazi's and all. Athletes don't always add up to the sum of their parts.

Agreed. After seeing 1 rush attempt throughout the first 6 games, Jacoby Ford found a way to average over 60 yards per his last 10 contests. And rookie Denarius Moore, who I was relatively high on as a mid-round sleeper, is reportedly poised to follow Ford's footsteps. Darrius Heyward-Bey's slow start was mostly a byproduct of Darrius Heyward-Bey, and not the team he's with. I still recall the numerous reports about him struggling practice after practice.

Pick #14.. Earl Thomas still on the board and you expect them NOT to take him and wait on Mays? Earl Thomas was already considered to be a top 10 pick. There was really no way they would pass him up. So I don't think its a "red flag".

As for Mays, why not let him come in and compete? The 49ers brought in Donte Whitner probably because they don't want to wait for Mays to develop. Bring him in to compete, if he don't get the SS spot, let him play ST.

Not no more. The 49ers have traded Taylor Mays to the Bengals for a undisclosed Draft Pick.

How ironic is it that the team who loves to draft USC players traded for him... the Bears made a offer but were going to move Mays to LB.

It's ironic, that it's Cincinnati... A bad decision by a bad team, picking up a bad player.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but Cincinnati is plummetting in talent and (IMO) reputation.

You know which side Joe Flacco is going to throw to.

Joe Flacco shouldn't worry about throwing into double coverage, if one of the coverage guy is Taylor Mays. Mays might knock out his teammate before the ball arrives.
