It has nothing really to do with my opinion, its the organizations he has played for and there were other areas to address, yet the Broncos moved up to get Tebow and there are rumors that Tebow will start this season but the only thing that may help Orton is this lockout stuff. Orton got benched towards the end of last season and that shows you woud the organization thinks about him throwing for over 350 yds on pace to break Marinos record, those stats has to be deceiving somewhere. Even in Chi town, he was benched for Grossman ad they eventually shipped him for Cutler so if he was legitimate as you making him out to be, why has all of that took place concerning him?
You've completely missed the point. While I believe that Orton can be a solid starting QB, I'm in no way defending his career acumen. Concerning your comments however, Kyle Orton sustained arm and rib injuries and couldn't practice at the end of the season, so he wasn't sidelined because of production. Outside of the trade rumors, there hasn't been any significant clamoring about Tebow starting in 2011 with both QBs being on the team. In fact, the Denver Post reports that Orton is so far ahead as the number one, that Tebow's biggest competition in training camp could be Brady Quinn. Just clearing that up. The point I'm making is that the Broncos were a legitimate passing team coming into our Week 5 contest, so grouping them with the incapable passing teams out of the games we played through Week 6 is nonsensical. The entire selling point of our match-up was, "#1 pass offense Vs #1 pass defense." I don't see how that's debatable.

They aren't bringing in a safety that records 100 tackles every year to be a backup. He will start. Maybe haruki will come in on passing downs

Is it considered starting if he splits time with Haruki and Zib? In baseball they call that a platoon, in football I feel to be considered a starter you have to play a supermajority of plays and play in coverage as well as runstopping. Not trying to argue, just wouldnt consider Pollard's role of "runstopper" the same as "starter".

Well, maybe he can pull off some of that Brady/Welker magic on Pittsburgh's Ward and that fat, slippery walrus of a QB.

OMG-
I can just hear the commentary:

Pollard comes around the corner. He launches at Roth and .... oh no, boy that looks painful

I can't believe it. Ben's nose looks to be broke again!

I like the move. The guy seems intense that's for sure. Maybe he just needs to be in the right system. You get the feeling he'll run through a brick wall after hearing Ray's pregame motivational, umm, speech.

I haven't found any actualy highlight vids, but I saw one of him cussing some guy out after pushing him out of bounds and also getting in to a fight with Steve Jackson, the running back for the rams. But his attitude problems will be taken care of by Ray. I just hope this guy can lay people out like James Trapp. That guy punished people.

Wow we keep taking players from the Texans. Whats next, Mario Williams????
Actually the Ravens just announced that we traded (and hosed) with the Texans for Andre Johnson. So we are no longer in the running for Floyd.

Pollard can be a weapon when he is used right. I am interested to see what he can do at SS for the ravens. I know he is good off the edge blitzing, Dawan mainly played the run so really things haven't changed much with Pollard. I actually think Pollard is a better SS than Dawan not by much, but I feel he is a better all around player.

i've seen that video and Reggie Wayne said something to Pollard as he went out of bounds so Pollard cussed him. these are men bruh! it is a physical game and i am pretty sure a whole lot of cussing is done on the field that we aren't hearing. no big deal there! i like Pollard's aggressiveness, especially for a SS.

This signing makes the defense a bit more physical than it already was and that can never hurt when we play in the same division as the Steelers. Typically when players come to play for Baltimore's defense they play better because of the talent around them, recent examples being Carr and Redding. This guy will play very well for us and he won't disappoint with his share of highlight hits.

Very true. Plus, Pollard had been playing for Kansas City and Houston, not good defenses by any stretch of the imagination.

this makes sense to me.... really happy with this signing. Pollard will gel with this defense.... If Jimmy pans out, we are in good shape so far as our secondary goes....

U guys realize he led his team in tackles last season, right? guy has done nothing but get better every year he's been in the NFL.

Now, let's get some coverage sacks....
Pollard really won't help in the coverage game, really. He's really more of a run defender. Don't get me wrong, he's not as terrible in coverage as some may lead you to believe, but it's not his strong suit. Although I think he could bounce back with a few picks this season.

Anyways, I like the Pollard pick up more than I thought I would. He's still young (26) with quite a bit of experience under his belt. He's a great tackler, hits hard, and will definitely help stacking the box. I really don't think we'll see the whiffs from Bernard that we did from Dawan. Of course, we won't see the chemistry Dawan had with Ed, but that's okay. It's only a two year deal, and Bernard's technically still the back up to Zibby, but I think Pollard has the chance to step up and earn that starting spot. Will it happen? Who knows, but it very well can.

I had hopes for Zibby or Nakamura to be able to shine as a starter at SS. Both have shown potential. I like this signing though. There will be competition at camp so may the best SS win guys.

This gives us something similar to Pitsburgs defense, a good Strong Saftey who can also play line backer. The only difference is that we have Ngata, Suggs(who is better than Harrison) Ray Ray and Reed. Not to mention, I saw on ESPN one time that we were ranked the number one defense.

I doubt Zibby will convert to a SS as many people on this board would like. Reed is too injury prone to try and convert our #2 FS at this point. Pollard, much like Landry, is another physical SS who fits our defensive scheme. Great pick-up IMO. Now let's get FLoyd!

I hate to rain on anyone's parade, but I did a quick search on some NFL websites, that rank free agents:

1. On ESPN Insider, they've ranked 591 free agents. Pollard is player #143, the 15th safety on their list. For the record, Landry was player #55, the 6th ranked safety.

2. On WalterFootball.com, Pollard is the 17th ranked safety, one behind Zbikowski. The commentary says, "Bernard Pollard is a tremendous run-stuffer, but really struggles in coverage at times."

3. On SportingNews.com, they rank their top 99 free agents, including 6 safeties. Pollard didn't make the list.

4. On PFT (yeah, I know... :P ), they ranked 97 free agents... and Pollard didn't make the list. Landry was #56.

He'll compete with Zbik for the starter's job, but I don't think he's an upgrade from Landry...
