Apparent Trouble With Existing Member-Account, I Suspect Software Malfunction

Hi,

I'm the guy from Hungary who drps his comments under the alias bioLarzen. As you can see, this comment comes from a slightly different alias. And that has a reason.

First, the technical part: I use Firefox 5.0, with the latest version of Flash installed, and Win XP op system. I use the "stayed signed in" option. This setup worked fine with baltimoreravens.com - up until yesterday (?). When yesterday I left baltimoreravens.com, I had no problem with my account: I was signed in (as bioLarzen), I could leave comments. When I came back today (at about 7 PM here, means 1PM ET), I experienced strange things:

- When I tried to leave a comment, it was unsuccessful. The comment seemed to go OK, I got no error messages - but the comment never showed up, no refreshing or using other browsers worked.

- Upon closer inspection I saw that under the comment-box, where it usally says: "You are logged in as bioLarzen." - now it said something like "You are logged in as Unidentified."

- When I tried to login, I found no trace of the login-box on its usual place, on the right end of the top, purple banner. I found the login-box in Internet Explorer and Chrome though. I managed to login under IE and also Chrome. I copy-pasted the login-page's URL to Firefox and so I managed to login under Firefox, too. The login-box then mysteriously appeared, now visible even under Firefox. It showed that I'm signed in.

- Placing a comment still wasn't successful: When I hit Submit, it acted like the comment was sent - no error message, nothing - but the comment never showed up. No refreshing or viewing it under the other browsers showed any sign of the comment.

- And it just gets stranger: I found that my comments I made earlier seem to be gone... Checked some earlier articles where I remember placing comments and I didn't find them.

- When I tried to logout from my account, it didn't seem to let me: after "logging out" the page refreshed - and showed me still signed in - even after multiple refresh - logout again attempts.

I know of no software updates or version updates (of firefox) happening between last night (the last time I could use my account under Firefox) and this evening (when I was no longer able to use my account under Firefox). also, I made no changes in the settings of either the browser or the website.

So, in a nutshell: I seem to have an account I can log in into, but seem to be unable to leave comments and also seem to have lost (some or all?) of my comments.

I'm sorry if I'm describing something at length that's a well known bug or problem for you - it was the first time i encountered it and I found no topic about this. If this has already been discussed or I was informed about it then I must have missed it.

Also sorry if I put this in the wrong forum or sub-forum.

Update: I see that no comments seem to be coming from anyone to the new news items on the front page... Maybe it's not only me who cannot leave comments?

Still, the oddities of the failing login/logout and the disappearance of my earlier comments bother me a bit...

It looks like comments are being posted in the blogs now. Perhaps you could try again. You could also see if you can post in the other forums.

Oh, and make sure the blog you're posting to already has comments. Sometimes there's a delay with posting to a new article.

I see no change. My posts still seem to disappear into thin air without any kind of error message, and I still cannot ses my earlier comments made for other posts. I cannot place comments using this new alias, either. I also see that there are no comments under the last couple of entries (none at all, not only from me), though they are not fresh.

Or do you mean that I should look for the comments on another site, not under the articles? That would make no sense...

thx for the help. Now all seem to be fine. I can submit my comments and now thy appear where they should. I did nothing, haven't cleared my cache or run my spyware or adware softwares (mainly because they are scheduled to run automatically at startup every day) however - all is the way they were yesterday (when my comments just disappeared) and the day before that (when all was fine)

Also, before I switched off my computer yesterday (abut 10 hours ago) I checked and I saw no comments under the last 3 posts, though they were hours old at that time - and I never saw such "old" posts uncommented here before... So, I guess it's either that others had the problem, too, or the comments somehow didn't show up on my screen somehow...

But, the main thing is that now it seems to be all right.
