Gaither - Post Raiders Pass

39 posts in this topic

Gaither to me, has been an enigma. A huge pile of wasted talent and ability. When he was a LT for the Ravens we had a solid impregnable line with Oher at RT, filled in by Grubbs, Birk and Yanda.

However, I cannot help but wonder what is up with this dude. I know he got really bad advice from his agent Rosenhaus last year and I personally think that destroyed his chances with the FO and coaching staff. Is this guy really hurt that bad that even the Raiders took a pass on him? Remember the Raiders have credibility now because of Hue Jackson, but still...

Assuming he isn't hurt, can we bring him back at RT so Jah Reid could ease into that role? Gaither shouldn't be that expensive to sign right now I would assume unless his head is still bloated with LT money that his agent seems to make him believe.

So what do you guys think?

You should probably get your facts checked.

I guess some players need to go out and see for themselves just how shallow their market is to appreciate what they had before. It was all his own doing and lack of work ethic, so if he does want to make big bucks in the future, he's gonna have to make a complete 180 and put in a few more good years before teams will have anything to do with bringing him in for a starting LT role. Let's hope he decides to resurrect his good name with us.

Although he is great when healthy, we don't know if he has recovered from his back problems and if he is in shape. If we did sign him I have to wonder how it would affect Oher's development. If we want Oher to become our LT of the future then bringing Gaither back is just going to keep him from getting better at that position.

I wouldn't mind bringing him back, especially to an incentive laden contract like many people have suggested. I just think he lost the trust of the coaching staff, which means he would have to really fight to start, assuming they even extend enough faith to bring him back in.

But tbh, i would LOVE to have Gaither-Grubbs-Birk-Yanda-Oher. With Leach as well. I think we would run over any and everybody.

I liked Gaither until he started actin all shady tryin to get a higher paying contract. Now I don't like him and wouldn't want him on the Ravens team even if he was healthy. He burnt his bridge with me and should now have to wallow in his consequences. The only way I would keep him on the team is if he takes the Veteran minimum and plays excellent football for however long his contract is. Then maybe I might start to like him again but he would be a RT not a LT. Oh and Go Ravens!!!

As great as I think it would be to add gaither back to the line @ LT or RT... lost trust has definitvely shown here. I don't even want a player the ravens lost trust in back on the team. No, we don't know the ins and outs of his situation last year we know what we are told. which these days aint worth much... but I say good riddens... he tried to play us like suckaz... and the wizard of OZ, harbs, steve, and crew will have none thanx... I think he could have even looked selfish to the players last year... doesn't work hard and doesn't love the game are phrases we frequently heard when describing this guy. Is that playing like a RAVEN? (note this is my opinion)

If a team that's got $48million to throw at Kamerion Wimbley won't sign you, I think you might struggle to catch on anywhere. I just don't think he's healthy and I've got a feeling it might be something degenerative. From a talent perspective he's probably the number 1 OL free agent but no-one seems interested, he must have some massive red flags.

Not that I would be totally against bringing him back, but if you fail a physical in Oakland, chances are the same fate awaits you here...

He also doesn't seem to be in keeping with our "TEAM FIRST" mentatlity. Definately not a high character type we covet.

This is off topic, can somebody please tell me why Ed Reed is wearing a NO 3 jersey???
I haven't heard about this, but I think it's fairly obvious...
...Ed Reed is the new backup QB for the Baltimore Ravens! We're not signing Bulger but using Ed instead! I expect us to have a "replace Joe w/ Ed" topic pretty soon.

I was watching the training camp video and wondering who the beast was wearing no. 3. He looks like he put on some bulk.

He did, I heard Ed looks bigger physically, he added some muscle this offseason because he's healthier than he has been but still wont ever be 100% again

If Gaither was healthy and he understood the TEAM is above all else and he was all about being a RT, although he's better than Oher at LT....if he took RT money and took a one year deal or something to prove himself, I'd like the Ravens to do that BUT I dont think he sees things like that

I don't like it being how it is, but I think the coaches, Harbaugh in particular, feel the same way that you do. I think he's burned his bridges here and I'm 100% certain that even if he does return for one or two seasons he doesn't have a long term future here.

Jared Gaither was probably the 2nd best Left Tackle we ever had

Honestly, the guy has sooo much potential. If only he had Ray Lewis' work ethic...

I am also curious about why the Raiders decided not to sign him, was it his back or contract demands I mean what?

However, I would reach out to Gaither with a 1yr contract, that way if he is healthy he can fight for a spot on the line, if he isn't healthy then its just a 1yr deal and he can be cut or let go after the season..

I have not seen this written anywhere, but I wouldn't be surprised to wake up one of the next few mornings and read that the Patriots or Eagles signed Gaither to a 1 or 2 yr deal..

I mean he fits the veteran mold the Patriots like he has talent, but comes with issues, Pats just resigned Light so they have a stable line they don't need Gaither, but still could bring him like they do...

The Eagles have a history of loading up on the OL and DL, whether through the draft or free agency, and this year the Eagles are signing anyone that moves to a deal.. If they picked Gaither up on 1yr deal similar to V.Young and he wins a spot its a win-win for them.

To the OP..."enigma" is the perfect word. The Ravens had high hopes for him at one time. I don't know if its a health issue or money (both have been suggested here) but it seems like the FO has decided to move on without him. Cap money is tight even for a one year contract for a guy that just doesn't seem to want to play football.

I say move on without him.

I say we just move on with what we got, we cannot depend on Gaither anymore although our O-line was definitely better when he was in the mix. Oher is a very good player and our future at the LT position, even though he had his struggles last year he will only get better in that spot.

He failed a physical.

I'd sign him to a 2-year incentive-laden deal and see where it goes from there. I'd say one year, but I don't think he's actually healthy yet.

If hes failing physicals left and right (last year with us and this year with Oakland), I say stay as far away as possible from this dude!
