Backup QB?

isnt troy smith a FA? i wouldnt mind picking him up
He is a free agent. The 49ers did not extend a tender to him. Which is head-scratching because he is the best non-starting 'hypothetical' player in the league. 49ers are interesting in bringing him back to compete for the 3rd QB spot.

I think the Ravens have too much invested into they young WRs on this team, to not have a veteran QB in the preseason.

All of these guys can't play with Joe, he won't be on the field that much.

We saw how Bulger came in last preseason and was still able to move the offense, even causing some people to want him to start over Joe.

I like Tyrod, but Cam has a really complex offense and Tyrod is still developing as a QB. So expecting him to come in and lead this team to where we wanna go at any point this season, might be a stretch.

I'm interested in seeing how Hunter Cantwell has progressed, but he's not an option either imo.

I really think it's Bulger and no one else at this point. Unless it's a trade or something.

As for Bulger, I just think he's waiting things out right now. Waiting for maybe a injury to a starting QB, where he could possibly go and take over a Super Bowl caliber team. I can see him signing back with us by the end of the week.

Patrick Ramsey anyone? Strong Armed QB with decision making issues. You think Cam can fix him?

We dont have much of a cap space for even a mediocre pass rusher. You want to add a veteran QB? Non of the QB in free agency can win us a SB. So what is the point?

I don't think it's about winning a Super Bowl more so then it is about having a serviceable guy for a 2-4 week period, should Joe need the time off(injury).

Tyrod Taylor, while I really like them, I'm not sure you feel comfortable with him possibility going .500 over a 4 week span.

Also, the Ravens will have more cap space after Ngata is signed and their could still possibility be some restructures.

I agree that if the Ravens have to rely on anyone other then Flacco to get us to the Super Bowl we are probably doomed.

But bringing Bulger back help this team and all of our QBs.

if Tyrod Taylor is our backup we all better pray that Joe never goes down to injury or the season is a loss
stop being so dramatic! Tyrod is a beast!
You have a point, but really Brady and Taylor are totally different animals. Our offense is built around a pocket passer and sadly I don't think Tyrod would make a great back up at this point. I hope we can resign Bulger!
Brady has been in the league for years man! but, there was a time when he (like you are doing to Tyrod....was an afterthought) but when he got the opportunity to step in for Bledsoe, well...the rest is history as they say! Tyrod is a good QB.

it is obvious that you don't follow VT football cause IF you did, you would know what we VT fans (myself included) know. and that is...Tyrod....later in his collegiate career BECAME more of a "POCKET-PASSER!" when he ran....he always looked downfield to pass the ball.

Does it really matter hell only play preseason games. Tyrod will be fine
Terrible assumption to make.

I'm sure were going to try to resign Bulger, especially since it doesn't look like he'll get a starting job now.

How is that a terrible assumption Joe hasn't missed a game YET! and if he does miss a game well put a rookie in to through to our rookie receiving corps

And concede the season? I doubt it. No team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations goes into a season with a rookie backup QB.

I doubt well find a QB much better then Tyrod...Bulger included! Joe goes down season over anyway

Tyrod hasn't thrown 1 pass in the NFL. I think there are a lot of QBs out there that would be better. He has a lot of potential, but there is no way he is ready as a rookie. One thing that really worries me is he is very short for QB too. As for Joe going down, if that would happen having an experienced backup would allow to still compete. Steelers were fine last year without Ben for 4 games. Its not season over as long as the backup is decent.

I'm still hoping that Bulger comes back, it makes sense for him and the Ravens.

I really think we'll be fine with Tyrod being the back-up and Caldwell being #3. These guys got into the league for a reason so if Flacco does go down its only fair to let them give it a try. If they all fail then obviously we either have to see who is still a FA or call it a lost season.

Do the Patriots care who is the backup QB? What about the Colts? Are the Chargers fretting over who can take over if Philip Rivers gets hurt? Of course they are, because that's the front office's job in the NFL, but it's way down on their list of priorities, and none of them are going out to find a veteran QB who can take over, despite the fact that they would all be counted as capable of making a Super Bowl run. The Saints aren't afraid that Drew Brees will melt down and need replacing; even the Falcons, with a QB nearly identical in qualifications, aren't rushing to find a backup QB.

The point there is who cares who is backing up Joe Flacco. With Flacco we're a contender, and unless you're willing to spend starter money on your second string QB you're gonna be screwed in the passing game when you're starter goes down barring some freakish takeover by your backup. The Ravens are as ready as any top team for a major QB injury.

wow, tyrod must be the best QB ever, i wonder how he fell so far in the draft, i wouldnt be so sold on him, he's got a few years of learning to do before he's a capable backup IMO

we need to sign a Vet QB for cheap

the Patiots have good backups usually, a team needs to have a backup who can come in and win a few games if the starter gets hurt...not one of those teams has a rookie backup..i havent checked but i seriously doubt it

plus tyrod taylor isnt made ready for the nfl

Cam Cameron and Peter King seem to think highly of Tyrod so far.

He's what Cam said in his presser.
Cam Cameron on rookie QB Tyrod Taylor: "This kid is special. We've got a heck of a young quarterback. We're getting him ready to play."
And while talking to Duffy, King highlighted Tyrod.

As others have said, there are more capable QBs than Tyrod available right now, including Marc.

Your second sentence couldn't be farther from the truth. Both Super Bowl teams last season saw their QBs miss time, and their seasons didn't end.

More praise for Tyrod from Peter King.

SI_PeterKing:
Tyrod Taylor confident-looking player. Rolled out today under pressure, threw a 15-yard dart, complete. Poised. Just liked what I saw. [via Twitter]

I can't wait to see Tyrod next Thursday Night, even Saturday at practice

Cam seems to think highly of the rookie, so maybe he will turn into a capable backup. He wouldnt say if its going to be this year or not but he said the kids special. So who knows, I think the majority of fans would be more comfortable with a veteran with some starting experience tho

Tyrod is an amazing QB.
just because he's athletic doesn't mean he can't throw the ball.
The only 2 QB's better than him in passing % last year were Andrew Luck and Kellen Moore (both of whom VT played, oddly enough).
He and Torrey have been hanging together since the draft, and I'm sure they've been practicing some routes and etc.

Give the kid a chance, for god's sake, before saying something like "if Flacco goes down and Tyrod comes in, our whole season is a loss"

And someone suggested Patrick Ramsey? what the heck?

<People> like you are the reason I can't root for any NFL teams
Watch some of Tyrods film before making an assumption like that. That kid is the hungriest rookie out right now, considering he stuck with being a QB even though no one said he'd make it in the NFL as one. Now all the Ravens coaches are raving about him

Might as well sign the cheapest vet out there, none of the 3.5 million nonsense from last season. If Flacco is out we're not winning the Bowl regardless.
