[Blogs] Ravens Agree With Leach

377 posts in this topic

Jeezy, I agree with you Lofa over Mclain, Ellerbe, Gooden, anytime. Could be a late steal that Ozzie is known for. Curoius what the cap on this is, if we only have 4 mil cap space, that would definitely put us out of the running for Lofa. Of course, this cap stuff is all theoretical numbers spread out over a three year period so if they chose to be a little high this year knowing they will lose Ray's contract in a year of two, it wouldn't hurt but it is all a PR game to make your opponent think you are or are not in a position to make a run at a player they want.

THis is our first big mood. I think since we were footballless (if thats a word) for so long over the CBA, first football we hear is some big names will be gone, then we hear nothing about signing people and we here in Baltimore just want our team to do something. I guess this passes as something.

By the way PFT is reporting Heap signed with Arizona.

Happy for heap, who was able to choose where he wants to end his career, and AZ was the only logical choice, with their QB situation, nothing like having a reliable TE for young QB corp......I would love to see us brig Mason back, i think his route running would prove priceless for all the youngsters....Reid really might have a shot at being a legit starter come week 1 for us, he looked good, but his attitude is what i think gets him the starting nod.....

Great move for us. I don't think we wanted to have to split carries with Rice, our best offensive weapon, and got someone who will just BLOCK and not want to ball as much as Le'Ron. Good luck to McClain where ever he goes.

Glad to hear about Leach, but really disappointed we didn't retain Heap. He was the most suprising of the cuts and the one I thought we needed back the most (assuming that with TE the plan is to run with what we have, but are expected to sign another WR if Mason isn't brought back). I think Dickson can fill in for Heap's statistical output, it's the other stuff he does that has me worried. Think back to that winning pass to TJ at Pitts last year. Heap reads the defense and slides across the formation to pick up the blitz. If doesn't make that veteran, headsy play Flacco gets nailed like he did by TroyP in that play we've all seen enough for a lifetime. This is the kind of stuff Heap did that doesn't show up on a stat sheet that we will miss.
Okay, long enough on that, I'm sure, now sign Floyd or Moss, and an OTackle and the offense is set!!!

looked what he did for foster, think what he'll do for rice.... and now think how much teams will have to bring in the box to stop them opening up for flacco, and not including the speed we brought in(IF torrey can step up) which will push the safeties back. defenses will be helpless. Never doubted OZ for a second

no way do you sign moss.......he has lost a couple steps over the years and why replace a veteran wr with another, older, slower one??????

I know I say alot. Looking at our starting lineup, this signing is big. That was a huge hole left by the loss of McClain. Like others have said, now it is a Right Tackle. Jah Reid, Oniel Cousins and Ramone Harewood. Harewood is still out with his knee issues, Cousins has yet to shine and we will see about Reid. He seems to be impressing. Other than that, Wide Reciever. We only have Boldin, Hardy has already been dropped to second team due to dropping the ball, Smith is learning but with the short spring, he can't be a number 2, Doss is still too fragile and needs to beef up, but his hands are great, true development receiver. Reed is always injured and then lastly their is Justin Harper and a couple rookie free agents. Hate to say it but we need one more year of Mason to tie us over to get Smith and Doss aclimated. Had we not missed all those OTA's I think it might have been doable, but same as the Right Tackle, missing all that work, we almost have to go out and get a professional until the 6th or 7th game of the season when they can adjust to NFL speed.

FA Wishlist:
1)Ty Warren formerly of the Pats, says hes willing to take the Veteran minimum pay in order to play for a contender so why not? hell be cheaper than goin after Osi and hes an upgrade to our D-line.

2)Some sort of veteran CB, we need someone with talent and experience to teach Jimmy Smith and help progress Webb, because currently they're getting beat a lot in practice which wont translate well once the season starts going.

3)RT for obvious reasons so Flacco doesnt get killed. I believe in Jah Reid but since its a shortened offseason I think he needs a lil more time to learn and become a starter

4)WR if we dont get Mason back we should go for an experienced guy, I think T. Smith and Doss will be good players...eventually but theres still a lot for all the rookies to learn.

Reporting on the FA market and FA activity is ridiculous ...

ESPN did a piece yesterday, grading each team's FA. Hello! Not done yet! They gave the Ravens a "D". Seriously?

This is the kind of signing that people who know what is going on understand is big, but won't get on the national radar. Look at ESPN's site. Heap signing with Cards is on the headlines list - no mention of Leach yet, not even within the AFC North Blogs.

Perhaps if Leach spent the last 18 months in prison for shooting himself in the foot and was signed by a NY team, his photo would be on the home page.

But no - he's a guy out there doing the dirty work. Arian Foster has to be a little miffed and Rice tweeted back to Leach within 5 minutes of his signing.

We'll wait to grade our FA activity in Feb. We're doing fine people.

@amwo....The big names CB's are off the board, their are very good 2nd tier CB who can play in our system.....Lots of 2nd week camp cuts will come up, as well as camp trades....Once teams get everyone into camp, the can evaluate who fits their system, and who they can trade or release....Tons of time for that....The feedback regarding Reid, and Mana Silva has me pumped up....If the guys like Arthur Jones, Cody, Rook McPhee, Kindle, and LBer rooks in Williams, and Walker, step up, we might be in a lot better shape than people think.....And we got our future center in Ryan Bartholomew (OC, Syaracuse)....

I've said this before but for my money we should go get Randy Moss. He provides the speed we need to complement Boldin's routes, plus he can be a mentor to the young receivers. I know I questioned his tutelage abilities in another thread but I got a reply saying most of the time he is a great teammate, which I can honestly believe. I think signing Moss would be fantastic, but I don't know if it will happen
