That's a fat load of cash right there, I don't see how they can bring that all down with just restructuring. Someone else has to be cut.

I'm figuring they are working hard with Woodley to get him a new deal by tommorrow. They'll be borrowing the 3M.

My guess is they'll be cutting 35 year old Aaron Smith who is set to make 4.5 this year. The last two years he had season ending injuries. Arnaz Battle is set to make 1M and probably wouldn't even see the playing field at WR.

But they do need to make some moves.

That's nearly 8.5M (ofcourse salary doesn't equate CAP) + Woodley new deal. So they can get it done, but they still need more work if they want to fill holes.

Considering they re-signed Ike Taylor, they more than likely have it entirely mapped out and ready to put into action very soon.

Pitt will be fine. They will, as usual, be one step ahead of baltimore and will prolly stand in their way again this year for a home playoff game

Werent they supposed to be in trouble last year with bens suspension? How did that turn out? Ended up doing a bit better than baltimore

By no means am I a Steeler fan but they are a well run organization just like ours but I would love to see a Steeler fan just admitt that luck was on their side last year. With that said... I do see a changing of the guards so to speak and I'm look forward to getting the better of the Steelers for the next couple years

Steelers draft well. There will be guys you never heard of moving up into the ranks. They stay competitive as well.

I'm hoping we make a good string of wins, so people will start taking this rivalry more seriously.

Steelers are 8.5 million over the cap as of Thursday morning per Adam Schefter.

Yeah PFT reporting the same thing. I think the deadline to be under the cap is Friday (tomorrow) by 4PM.

Who would have ever thought that the Detroit Lions were over the salary cap? They must have known that their fan base was going to blow up one of these years. On top of that, the Bears have over 19 million to spend and they go out and sign Vernon Gholston....huh?

That's what picking high year after year does to you. Stafford, Suh, and Johnson are making bank.

That's the NFL's fault then since players drafted high shouldn't be looking to bank early and cuts shouldn't have to be made all over a few new guys. It's bad enough that the coaches get fired every other year(though I'm sure there's always one or two that deserve to). In that case, I support the NFL lockout that happened this year. It was completely worth the wait and it would be nice to see the Lions get a fair chance since the Eagles can blowup their team while the Lions can't. I thought Detroit just signed people horribly. Wow, I have alot to learn.

Steelers LBs coach Keith Butler hopes to get second-year OLB Jason Worilds more involved on defense this season.
Worilds has a lightning-quick first step and added muscle this spring. "He's one of those guys we need to get in, especially early in the season," said Butler. "He needs to get our confidence and, if he does, we'll put him in there." Ideally, the former second-round pick could spell James Harrison some this season. Harrison is 33 years old and coming off double back surgery.

James Harrison's career in Pittsburgh may be numbered if Jason Worilds breaks out this year. Harrison is already breaking down with injuries as he had procedures done this offseason. Also, he is not getting any younger, which means the Steelers might trade him or release to another team for high price. I wonder if the Bills or Raiders will bite on James Harrison.

It'll take a serious injury to get Harrison off the field, he's just one of those guys that refuse to come off the field.

Well, Woodley just signed a new long term deal so the steelers probably have dwindled down that number a little bit.

Woodley just became the second highest-paid Steeler ever... signing a 6 year, $61.5M deal this morning, with $18.1M this year. Somehow that lowers his cap number.... Ngata deal please!!

JasonLaCanfora Jason La Canfora
New deal for LaMarr Woodley - 6 yrs $61.5M, with $18.1M in 1st year and $27M over 2. 2nd highest paid Steeler of all time.

So confusing. Did his deal have a huge signing bonus or something? (not sure if they go against the cap or not)

LOL. 18.1M for a year of Woodley? (over 1 million a game - 1.81 million per sack based on last yr numbers). Wow. Could get about 4 top-tier players for that price and still sign the rookies. Woodley is great LB love to have him. Overpaid? Maybe.
