Eagles A Powerhouse?

44 posts in this topic

So far, they've landed arguably the best backup QB in the league with VY, a 2nd round pick, Dominique Rodgers Cromartie, Nnamdi Asoumgha, Jason Babin, and Cullen Jenkins.

So, if Babin and Jenkins play to half of what they were last year, and Cole plays up to expectations along with Bunkley, the best DL in the league hands down. And with the defensive backfield the way it is (Aso, Asante, DRC) and some young guns like Nate Allen back there, there pass defense could be the best in the league hands down. Not to mention they still have Vick and arguably the youngest, fastest WR corps in the league.

If it all fits under the cap they are definitely the SuperBowl favorites. (Although eventually they will have to cut a lot of guys due to cap issues in a couple years).

On paper, yes. Then again, the 'skins are always a powerhouse on paper.

I'm crossing my fingers, but the Eagles might also get Amobi Okoye to make a crazy D-line to go along with their crazy secondary. Funny thing is, who do they have at LBs. Casey Matthews might have a field day.

Asante is expected to be traded. DRC and Nnamdi is a great duo though. However, the Eagles are setting up for short term success and could struggle further down the road.

The Skins also don't have Andy Reid as coach, and they never were really close in the coaching department until Shanny was brought in, which only moved the level to halfway from the Eagles in the coaching talent area.

It all rides on Vick. If he has another season like his last then this might be Philly's year. Right now they are like the Jets without the gigantic ego so more people will tend to back them.

Yes. Eagles > Packers. I think we'll be seeing them in superbowl next year. Also look what Reid did with Vick. Making him a better passer. Imagine how good Young will be in 2 years. This Defense is SCARY.

Eagles still have the worst LBs in the NFL. That is going to have to change for them to be the best Defense. Their Safeties are also questionable. Middle of the field is going to be a challenge unless they can either get some more players or have Rookies step up in a HUGE way.

Football is a funny sport, especially in the NFL. You can look like the best, but the season doesn't always play out like that. Just ask the 07 Patriots.

Eagles can be beaten. They also lost Mikel.

A powerhouse? I think they have to win a Super Bowl before you even start that conversation. And Michael Vick is not Aaron Rodgers. The Packers are the NFC powerhouse, if there is one. But in football, the "better" team often doesn't win. One play here or there can change everything, it's not baseball/basketball.

This is exactly why everyone should calm down about us not signing a big Free Agent, Ozzie has set us up for the long haul, to win multiple Super Bowls.

We'll see how this looks on the field come Sept 11th, or actually August 11th when we play them in the pre-season. Like I said in another thread they play some tough defenses and with a weak offensive line, Vick could go down for the season, and with our defense we could potentially knock Vick out for the season.

They did play 5-2 a few times last year.

Sounds like a fair thing to say concerning the Eagles, my friend. We shall see how things turn out this season.

They can buy all the players they want. Good defenses are built on communication and teamwork, and the Eagles have a short offseason to mesh new pieces together and come up with a scheme that works.

They also have to hope the Giants don't kill Vick with their D-line.

So who can tell me the Packers can make to the playoffs last year when Rodgers was almost out of the season? I guess not....They barely even made it to the playoff and somehow finished strong.

Isn't that great about football? Underdogs are scary...

0_o Wow, 11 picks. They're still paperchamps to me. ESPN and other so called "analists" will probably crown them champs before the season starts.

I know its just on paper, but they do have a crazy pass rush and secondary, not to mention last year many favored them for the Super Bowl as well.

im not buying into it .. just like last year the jets were the "team to beat" and barely made the playoffs .. you cant buy championships in the NFL .. they did pick up some good players but lets see if they have the chemistry , plus they havent filled in any needs .. a few other teams have had pro bowl talent the past few seasons ( washington , dallas) and failed to even make the playoffs .. and the positions they signed they already had solid pieces they had asante they already have (had) a pretty good DLine and now what they actually need they might have a hard time replacing or getting ..

They have a shaky O-line as well and they just cut Leonard Weaver so they're going to have to find a new FB. They might also be in trouble if they have to give Desean Jackson a huge pay raise. However if they can keep Desean around they will have very strong ST with the kicker/punter they drafted from Nebraska named Alex Henery. He looks like he will be the best kicker in the league in a matter of time.

I would rather take a losing season for the Ravens this year to attain more Super Bowls in the future, than to win one Super Bowl this year and never have another winning season thereafter.

The Eagles are setting themselves up for failure. While they have a large crop of rookies this year and loads of money to spend, it's only a matter of time before this catches up to them. It was smart of them to acquire so many draft picks for next year and to bring in veterans to complement their core foundation, but the issue is with the amount they've paid, the age of the players on their squad, and the fact that they're putting all their eggs into the Mike Vick basket.

Even with his success last season, Vick is still an unknown quantity and is hardly their QB of the future. There is a greater chance of Vick having a spectacular crash-and-burn at some point over the next year or two, than for Vick to maintain his success long enough for a young QB to be groomed to take over when that inevitable decline happens. Vince Young is not their QB of the future, as the story on his career is virtually written. Young is a project far more complex than a rookie, as the Eagles essentially must teach him how to be a professional and to play QB the way they desire. Young's mechanics and athleticism have only gotten him so far. It'll take a stronger work ethic and vast improvements to his game for Young to be the safety net that the Eagles envision.

The story of the 2011 Eagles will likely read similar to the 2007 Patriots: dominant regular season run, but then they'll falter in the playoffs or the Super Bowl.

Well said & I agree with them being strong in the season but falling short in playoffs (my guess is in the first round)

I ticked off a lot of Eagles fans on Facebook with my prediction that these free agent moves will be a non-factor and that their Super-Bowl-or-bust mentality will end with their trophy case still empty. :)
