According to Aaron Wilson, the team has waived Divens and Steele after both of them failed physicals. NFL insider Adam Caplan sees Marion Barber or Ronnie Brown as potential backup options. Whoever is signed, I'm still excited about Berry and Allen.

McClain indication maybe? Id be happy with him, or Ronnie Brown. But rather have Leach over anyone right now

I don't know if Barber has a lot left, his legs are made of glass - knees, quads, and calves all get dinged up in the past few years. I would pass on him unless it's a short, cheap deal.

I'm excited about the rookie runners, too. Matt Lawrence could be a dark horse for the back-up spot, the coaches have liked him enough to have him hang around for 3 years.

The Average Career in the NFL is 3 years.

These guys knew that they have to seize every chance they get.

Parmele lost his job as kick returner to David Reed, thus made him expendable.

Marcus Smith was a solid special teamer, but he couldn't crack into the WR Corps. I guess Burgess set the expectation of a special teams ace.

Yeah I am not big on Barber but its not my choice to make. I would just happy with Rice, McClain, Berry, and Leach if we can get him signed.

Just looking at the list:

These might be possible veteran back-ups at RB:

Joseph Addai, RB, Colts. Age: 28 - Injuries cost him his glory and big paycheck, maybe it's now time for him to be a caretaker.

Ronnie Brown, RB, Dolphins. Age: 29 - same as Addai

Jason Snelling, RB, Falcons. Age: 27 - interesting role as a power-back who can catch and block.

Tim Hightower, RB, Cardinals. Age: 25 - 3rd down back with fumble problems

Jerome Harrison, RB, Eagles. Age: 28 - He has potential to be a effective runningback, but too inconsistent. His chances are limited.

Kevin Smith, RB, Lions. Age: 24 - He's young and broken down.

I agree with you, I'm very excited about our two new guys. However, one, if not both, will probably be on the practice squad for this year. So it'd be nice to have Ronnie Brown as a one or two year guy, because he's definitely a solid RB to have behind Rice.

Kevin Smith has so much promise until his ACL was proven to be lettuce against us a couple years back.

I really liked Marcus Smith believe it or not. I wonder what the FO is thinking about with our WR situation. I think it's obvious they like what they see by releasing him, unless of course we'll bring Mason back but who knows. As for the RB situation, I'd really like to see McClain kept and given a chance with Berry behind him. I just didn't want Parmele anywhere near the field when the offense is on it lol. Not a fan of any of the players still on the market. Leach blocking for Rice and McClain, we'll be back to where we were two years ago.

Haven't cared for Boldin much at all. Boldin had that huge drop in the endzone that woulda put us ahead late in the 4th quarter. You won't find me crying he is gonna be gone. In all seriousness, M. Smith was a good Special Teams player

I Love the fact that we can scoop up Kevin Smith. Him or Ronnie Brown would be a dream. Kevin Smith is only 24 and even though he tore an ACL I'd love him as a complimentary back to Rice for the rest of both of their careers. Get it done Ozzie (or Ronnie Brown, whatever you wanna do).

Marion Barber would be welcomed by me for sure. He fits the mold of a Ravens back. Punishing and not afraid to put that shoulder down and truck a mug.

Vonta Leach blocking for Barber sounds incredible....dream on Robert dream on

Parmale and Smith are coming back

RavensInsider Aaron Wilson
On Marcus Smith and Jalen Parmale, both had their $1.2 million RFA tenders withdrawn. Both signed to smaller deals. Smith is at $600,000 now

The moves still save money. I doubt Smith will make the team, and Parmele isn't very good either.

Both are key contributors to ST, though. Still, you need to do more than that after three years in the league.

Wasn't Marcus Smith a good gunner for us until he tore his ACL last year? I thought he led in ST tackles for a while or something.

He tore his ACL in '09. He's never led the team in special teams tackles over a full season during his time here, but he's definitely been a good special teams player.

Snelling is the only of the FA RBs in whom I would be interested. The others are pretty much broken down, washed up, or just don't fit with what we need. Ahmad Bradshaw is the an excellent RB, but he's a one cut speed player, and not a power back. I liked Kevin Smith coming out of college, but he hasn't panned out the way I hoped in Detroit.

Bringing back in McClain is still, I think, the best possible option. If we promise him McGahee's share of the carries then we might be able to bring him back at a decent price, and I've pretty much settled with our CB situation, so I would be willing to spend a bit on McClain, so long as he'd be willing to stay at 255+ pounds to stay an effective blocker.

I'm glad that Ozzie has cut their salary in half (slight assumption with Parmele). It might not seem a lot, but nearly $3M on guys who are very unlikely to see the field on offense was a pretty big problem. Probably kept around because Harbs values special teamers.
