Torrey

I bashed the heck out of this kid. And that was before we even drafted him. When I found out we drafted him; well my extensive arsenal of expletives was exhausted by the time that tirade was over. In fact, I called up my meth head neighbor to advise me on new colorful ways to express my thoughts.

Can't lie though. I can't help but love everything about this kid's personality. From the way he defended Jimmy against those 'character concerns', his humble outlook, and most of all his enthusiasm and dedication to his craft, he has all the traits of a winner.

And I was delighted to hear that he beat Jimmy and Foxy in one on one drills today.

Of course, it was just one day, in shorts no less, but still a promising sign.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm ready to man up and smile while you throw tomatoes at me if he pans out.

But I swear to god, if he turns out to be another Clayton...lol, whatever, I'll still like him.

Welcome to the party boat. I wasn't high on him before we drafted him, but he grew on me really quick (seriously like 3 minutes after we drafted him).

Now we just have to hope that we use him on more than just reverses. *Staring down Cam Cameron*

I still feel people during the draft either loved him too much cause of the MD ties or hated him too much for small hands of all things. Me, I think he can be a good reciever and certainly has the work ethic for it, but I still woulda been outragously pissed if we grabbed him in the first round.

You weren't the only one by any means. You had your reasons for saying it. But I think him and Doss are going to be special. I was hoping we would pick Torrey, due to what I saw from him at his days at UMD.

Fly, like you I was not very high on Torrey Smith before the draft either and didn't want to draft him. But the FO saw something in him and despite their WR drafting history I hope they are right on this one.

And to be honest I really like Tandon Doss over Smith, but if either or both of them can become starting caliber WR for the Ravens I am all for it.

His natural ability athletically is obviously apparent. What sets him apart his his worth ethic, attitude, smarts. I followed him throughout the summer on twitter. Very hard worker in the gym and on the field. The guy is so humble, all he wants to do is help the team best he can, no ego. He studied the playbook allll summer long. Fresh legs, a willingness to learn (especially from one of the notoriously best prepared players in Boldin), this kid will go far I guarantee it.

People had him pegged to us in the first round and I was not a fan of that at all, but for a 2nd rounder I feel he has the potential to be a steal.

I bashed him throughout the draft process as well, but Torrey is more explosive than I gave him credit for. You have to respect him as a person, and I love that he was one of the first guys back in the building when the lockout ended. He's the kind of high character, high work effort guy you want on the team, and I hope he pans out.

Nice! Got me in the mood to listen to some Rich Eisen coverage of Ray Rice highlights!

Where's ATD? I wonder if his opinion has changed yet lol.

I feel he can have at least moderate success simply because of his work ethic and his personality, but we don't know anything yet. I guess it's just a case of wait and see.

Well my opinion hasn't changed. I didn't like him before we drafted him, and I still don't like him.

I hope he proves me wrong, but I see nothing more than a good slot WR.

Whats so bad about getting a good slot receiver with speed in the second round?

Well Little and Cobb were still available, and I think they have potential to become excellent WR's.

Also good slot WR's are very easy to find. I'd consider a 2nd rounder too high for one.

Obviously it remains to be seen what kind of WR Smith will be though.

Cobb seems more like a slot receiver than Torrey, and Little comes with a lot of off the field baggage. I wanted Titus Young, but with him off the board I think Torrey was the best choice.

The way he caught the ball in MD really scares me.

I agree, but I believe that its something he has worked on. Like you said though, we have to wait and see. I'm a lot more optimistic than I was right after we drafted him.

He had the smallest hands in the combine next to Niles Paul so body catching and drops is going to be something he's going to have to overcome. On the other hand I believe that Tandon Doss has one of the best hands from the draft so it works out oddly...

Coming From a HUGE Titus Young fan, I'll gladly eat my words that I said before the draft if Torrey pans out.

Never once did I question his personality tho. He and Ray Rice have hearts that are bigger than Mount cody, Haloti Ngata, and Albert Haynesworth Combined.

I'm also excited about Doss. I think he will eventually take over as Joe's go to guy like Derrick Mason was. Not only does Joe like Doss a lot, I think Doss has the best hands on the team 2nd to Q IMO.

nah, I'd probably give the edge to Doss, simply because he makes more spectacular catches

It'll likely be an open competition throughout the preseason as to whether Doss or Torrey win the starting position opposite to Boldin. I don't think I want us to sign any free agents at WR. I'll definitely be beaming if we resign Heap, but that's about it.

I try not to prognosticate, but let's just say though, I might be traveling throughout the 2011 season and if that's the case will you please all throw my mountainous mass of tomatoes at fly for me?

I like Torrey, but I think it's a little ridiculous that you're getting over-excited from 1 day of non-padded practices

If he keeps this up over the next few days and in some preseason games, then I think it's safe to say he's awesome

I wanted Hankerson at first, but I love Torreys attitude. He'll most likely be one of our captains someday, Hopefully he can live up to his hype. :)

At least it's better than Michael Crabtree, who can't even start playing 2-4 weeks in.

Crabtree is overrated and probably going to be in the doghouse, the Harbaugh's doghouse in California.

I really like Torrey's personality too, and I know from experience that a rough childhood will make u stronger...he's got the speed and if his hands are good and he runs crisp routes he will make plays for us..

I'm excited, Joe throws a great deep ball when he gets the chance..should make for some big plays this year.quick strikes for a score sound good? yeah
