Ngata's Contract Status

62 posts in this topic

Greetings fellow Flock... As we all are well aware of (I hope by now at least), until we lock Ngata into a new contract, there will little to no moves made via free agency... So it's simple as presenting Ngata with an offer thats appropiate and then we can make a move or three, isn't it??? After all everyone else seems to have no problem signing their free agents... Why us?
Haloti Ngata didn't have any news on his contract. Said he's going to talk to his agent tonight. He's still hoping for a long-term deal
What would be the benefit in waiting to sign Ngata? Is there one that is not obvious to me? They have signed nearly everyone else.

Because if a fairly good NT signs for cheap somewhere we can use it as leverage against the Haynesworth contract that Ngata may be asking for.

Haloti knows he's not going to be getting that kind of ridiculous contract. The basis for his contract will probably be Suh's contract, with Ngata getting a little more.

This deal needed to get done yesterday. I can't wait for them to sign him and move on. This is the one signing I'm most excited to read from the Ravens. Hopefully it's done tonight.

Still, the same logic applies.

You're good. All that matters is that he gets signed ASAP.

Yea and that means nothing will happen with Mason or Heap for at least another week, because I don't think the Ravens even begin talking to those guys until Ngata and probably a guy like Leach is signed.

No they will keep those guys interested. You can't turn your back on anybody even if you don't have the money, because even when you do have it, they'll be less inclined to return.

The Ravens are waiting for other teams to overspend on players and then to release their other players so they can come in and get bargain quality players. Just chill & see what happens. The only players we could lose that can't be replicated in FA were Ngata & Yanda who will remain w/ the Ravens.

I never said they would turn their backs. But the fact of the matter is those guys were cut to create cap space, to re-sign Yanda, Ngata, and probably at least 1 FA.

Mainly after the Ngata deal the Ravens will have a better idea of where they stand with the cap. That will determine if a guy like Mason is offered the vet Min, or can you give him something close to what he actually wants.

and who exactly has signed that would have make the Ravens a much better team? Someone who was actually a possiblity? We weren't gonna get Nnamdi, we weren't gonna get Edwards, and we expected to lose all the guys we did. Did we try and get Wilson back? Yea, but losing him didn't come as a surprise.

This first couple of days was like the first week of a normal FA period. Now that Nnamdi drama is over with, the second tier guys will start to get signed, this is where the Ravens will start to make moves.

I look for Leach or Vickers to be signed by no later then Tuesday. Or should I say I expect the FB position to have more clarity by Tuesday.

I expect something to happen with Carr quickly. He wants to start with with some much bigger names still out there, it doesn't look like many teams are biting on him.

More and more players will be either cut or traded over the next couple weeks. The sum of the football season isn't gonna be based off what happen the first 5 days after the Lockout ended.

If you are losing respect because the Ravens aren't making major moves with only about 4 million in cap space, then you probably didn't have much respect to begin with, because it'd be foolish to go out and spend over the cap with the amount of guys we'll have to take care of in the next 2 seasons.

We are willing to lose guys like, Landry, Wilson, McClain, Chester, etc, so we won't have to be faced with the same situations next year, with much more important players in line for contracts.

The Ravens aren't making moves( or appear not to be) for 2 reasons. One is because we don't run to the media everytime we are interested in a player. Ozzie likes to work behind the scenes as much as possible. The other reason is because, the Ravens don't have to move right now.

Guys like Leach, Vickers, Bulger, Houston, Sim-Walker, Whitner, Ronnie Brown, and other guys up for trades aren't going anywhere right now.

We are hearing reports today that Ozzie has inquired about Leach, why? Because Ozzie knows it's about that time for some of those second tier guys to start coming off the board.

I think we all need to chill and be patient. It's obviously inevitable, so we just need to wait and when there is any news we will surely be informed by Aaron Wilson and Jamieson Hesley.

5 yrs 70 million seems to be what it will be or something in that range. That would be 14 million a year. Ravens should feel happy if they can get it down to 5 yr 65. Still a lot but Ngata is the man. Hes probably our best player at this point. He is the best 34 interior player in the NFL

just bumping this back up to the top, any more news? this is really hindering us, because im assuming the FO have their eyes at least on OL depth, if not a pass rusher and WR.

Is he looking a deal like Hanynesworth? and were not prepapred to offer, or whats the hold up? When you see manning take less than he knows he could get to help the team sign players quick, it just makes you wonder what is actually going on.

You cant blame him for wanting alot of money (if thats the holdup) but id like to have seen him pout the team first like manning, again if thats the holdup..
