First Look At Jimmy Smith

I'm sure he had some serious nerves as well. Even Preston was praising him, he said that he has really stood out and is extremely physical.

Who better to matchup with hines ward?

BloodRaven, a project corner? I sure hope he's more then that to be picked in the first round. I'd say he's closer to being a starter then he is to a special teamer.

More first round corners will bust than become elite, the numbers don't lie. Just saying.

More 1st rounders at any position will bust than become elite b/c they went in the 1st round so more expectations is put on them and while they might be a servicable, solid players, if they don't meet expectations they will be labeled " bust " anyway.

If you take out the 500 kids with 475 different women, lack of run support, and general character issues, Cromartie would be a top 5 corner in this league. Even with all that, a lot of people still believe he's that good. If that's the best The Jimmy can aspire to, that's a pretty good ceiling.
Strongly disagree. That guy is worse than Deangelo Hall.

How many corners at all become elite? Look at the elite corners now...most if not all of the top 10 were 1srlt rd picks. Asmougha was, revis was, woodson was

Sure but to discount as a "Project" is a bit questionable. Sure, I'd agree if you'd say Chykie Brown was a project.. Later pick with a lot of question marks.
Jimmy is certainly a rookie and has a lot to learn but lableking him a project corner is setting expectations VERY LOW. Though, I've noticed you're more on the negative side in general.. I guess your consistent. :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047
I've heard mixed things so far, but you know its going to take time for him to get used to the scheme, like the first day he practiced he said he was surprised at how physical the WRs are...so he's adjusted and now he hits them at the line..I think he needs to track the WR better in their routes..but its early and he has time to grow, its not like he has to be the #1 CB immediately, we have depth

I expect him to be very good
his ability to track down the ball / recievers is actually one of his best traits. Dont read too much into what's going on right now; watch how he plays in the preseason games to get a better idea of what he can do.

i can kinda see that; a much more physical version and better against the run.
Personally I think he's most similiar to CMac on the field.

You cant be serious....Deangelo Hall make Cromartie look like a LB with his play, and Hall is god awful in man coverage.

Still doesn't change the fact that Hall had the second worst burn rate out of all the starting CBs in the league while Cro had one of the best.

Stats don't tell the whole story, especially a stat that has multiple extenuating factors to it. Cromartie has ball skills and size/speed numbers but that's it, he is NOT a good cornerback regardless of what he was paid.

Ya exactly, Hall doesnt tackle anybody period, hes arguably the softest corner in the league.

Good thing the Giants took Prince Amukamara in the draft and wasn't an option for us. Guy broke his foot in his second practice.
He broke his foot? Wow.

I was a bit isappointed jimmy didn't practice today. Was looking forward to seeing him in action

He also did one of the DB drills. We're taking it easy with Jimmy. No need to rush things.

I thought jimmy was one of the bright spots tonight.

First of all he showed heart for wanting to play after the injury

Second, his playing time was short but while in there his coverage was tight and man he was physical. Also made a solid tackle. He is who I want in hines wards grill opening day.

no, as fast as the jimmy is, I don't think he is fast enough to cover Mike Wallace. Put Foxworth on him

Foxworth and his fragile knee? Really? Smith is faster than Foxy.

Don't waste Jimmy talents on someone that's going to go deep majority of the time so putting him on Ward would be the best and most safest bet right now. Ease Jimmy into the action b/c we can have Webb sticking Wallace.

havent read the last few pages of this thread, I think Jimmy Smith is coming along well from what the coaches say, and having Jimmy and Cary running with the first team for the past 4 days or so says something

very excited to see if both guys start against the Chiefs
