So What Happens Now?

With the remaining caps. The best thing is to restructure a deal with Mason/Heap and bring Jared Gaither into the discussion.

Mason/Heap 2.5/3mill
Jared Gaither 5m
Ray Edwards 5m/Osi Umenyiora 4m

Is that possible to DO??

I don't know about that. Mase and Heap's numbers are pretty steep. Mase wil probably start, till one of the rookies step up. But Heap has to split reps with Dickson. I think the coaches want Dickson to become the number 1 asap.

Jared's agent is rosenhause. You know that guy will squeeze as much as he can out a GM. I believe Jared wont be back. A lot of teams in the league will pay more for him than the Raven will. Plus the Ravens organisation is set to let Oher be the LT for the future and Gaither will only be back for that starting LT spot.

I not sure how much edwards will command in FA, but osi will make according to his current contract 3.5 mil this year. I don't think he will accept 4m a year. He is pretty disgruntled right now. He didn't even want to show up at trainingcamp because he wants a new contract.

I don't think it's possible. But if we get osi. I say put him in at OLB in our 3-4 and let him play like demarcus ware and blitz on all downs. He has only played in a 4-3 so dropping back is a problem. At 30, you can't teach him to drop in coverage.

i like the last line in that suggestion

if we can get Edwards and Osi that would rock. Add a healthy Gaither to the equation and even better. As much of a fan as i am, losing Mason and Heap suck BUT i 100% see the business in it. We have plenty of youth in both those positions. Just sucks cause i just bought the Fiance a Heap Jersey.

I'm not really jumping at the thought of bringing back the cut players. Have to see what other players are available around their price range and if they'd be a better fit. Pass Rush is a big need, I see the FO looking to make a deal to get Terrell Suggs some legitimate help and hope Sergio Kindle can develop alongside.

I think that the FO might make Heap and/or Mase a cheaper, short-term deal for them to return.

I think that the drafting of Reid, plus how well he's doing in camp, means two things with regard to Gaither: 1) He doesn't have a long-term future in Baltimore. 2) Ozzie and co. won't be held to ransom over Gaither's financial demands as we can get by without him.

I don't know how we'd be able to work Osi's salary under our cap, especially in the next couple of years. I'd rather not lose Grubbs, Rice or Flacco.

I feel your pain. The wife has five jerseys and three of them are Heap, Mason, and Mcgahee. Time to bust out the wallet.

I'd like to see Heap back as a Raven and finish his career here, but if it means losing him while signing someone that we need in another area, and the money is right, it won't bother me as much.

As it looks right now we're not going to be signing anyone noteworthy. Apparently according to Hensleys estimate the Ravens are only 4 million under the cap after having let Gregg, Mason, Heap and McGahee go. That's not enough to do much of anything. If Ngata gets a longterm contract then that will free up some space, but if not looks like we are stuck with what we've got.

I'm hoping Nnamdi goes to Dallas. The Jets certainly don't need the help at corner. They already have Revis and they drafted Kyle Wilson in the first round last year. Honestly if I was a jets fan I would want them to address D-line and rush linebacker. They struggled getting to the QB last year.

I was just looking at the cap figures of the Cowboys and Jets and it would appear that we are in a better position then either team to make a run at FA's. I'm not sure how they're going to sign another 11-13 million dollar a year player.

People have to get it through their heads that Gaither is not coming back.

The Ravens have to free up more cap space by signing Ngata long term and cutting million dollar tender players like Marcus Smith, Parmele, and Ayanbadejo

Then, they can look into signing a DE like Osi and a FB like Vickers and thats pretty much all they can do.

Remember, each team also has a $3 mil player exemption and 3 $1 mil player exemptions so they actually could have:

6 + 4 (restructure Ngata) + 4 (RFA cuts) = about 14 mil to play with thats including tenders, rookies, everything)

Give Osi a little less than the 5/30 Edwards got from ATL (5 mil) sign Vickers (2.5 mil) and leave some room for a corner and or WR

= Championship.

Dont take too much stock in those figures....doesnt count franchise tags (or 2011 value once that player signs long term) or RFA tenders.

I hope you are right. as much as few fans are saying "we dont need nnamdi, we are good as we are", the same discussion was made on 08' with adding a 'bandage' player like foxworth and nobodies(fabian washington/frank walker). If we want to be superbowl champs, we need to step it up. Asomugha is a once in a life time player. We cannot lose this chance to grab this guy while we can.

The jets and a lot of other teams are manging. No reason the ravens couldent have. The ravens have done nothing but downgrade all across the board. They lost their starting cb,ss,wr,te,dt,. They need to figure a way to do something if the jets are able to sign a 14 mil a year player while having revis, mr. 15mil sanchez, and santonio holmes.

You know, it would help if we get haloti signed, foxworth restructure(+7 mill to 5) matt birk (6.5 to 4)restructure. it CAN happen, but matt/foxworth arent even going to sniff at that idea.

Starting corner. I don't know which one you mean, but the only reasons that carr and wilson started were because foxworth got hurt and webb was comming of an acl injury.

SS. Dawan going away is difficult. but don't forget that Zibby filled in for Ed and did a good job. Over the years the Ravens lost a lot of safeties, but the mainstay was Ed. Just like with Ray you can plug in another player to play next to him.

WR. Mason wasn't the nr.1 last year. Q was. I agree with you that the lack of a number 2. is concerning.

DT. Losing gregg was hard, but the Ravens have mount cody to replace him. He played wel at the end of the season. I'll never forget how he single handedly took out jamal charles from the chiefs.

also along the dline i think arthur jones can have a big season guy was a 2nd rd pick until her got injured and has gotten stronger, and mckinnley is an above average backup

and just tweeted to back up my point
1WinningDrive Baltimore Ravens
He's absolutely cut/swole/ripped. Whatever it is, he's it. Could see more time this year... RT @Jodi_Jo_93: How is Arthur Jones looking?

How can you say we downgraded this offseason when the offseason just started a few days ago? Good lord.

If the Jets DO sign Asomugha, I'm curious, how do you guys think we attack them on October 2nd? Assuming everyone's healthy (which is a big 'if'), you can't really run on them, especially with our sketchy O-line. And now, looks like you won't be able to throw easy either.

I'm thinking the best defense wins that day, so I'm hoping Jimmy Smith steps it up big time. What do you guys think?

You beat them by signing a FB and running down their throats.

Against their offense, we already have the blueprint to keep them under 10 points.

First of all, we beat them at their own game. We shut down Sanchez.
Then Cam has to grow a set and either run a lot of three WR sets, or otherwise make our TE the fantasy star of the week.
