Under-The-Radar Trades, Signings, Etc...

6 posts in this topic

As we know, our front office has been waiting to see how Free Agency will turn. I believe by patiently holding on to our money, we will find those hidden gems that we want.

Here are my list of under-the-radar free agents that might be worth a look.

CB Chris Houston - He had an up and down years in Atlanta, but have shown some flashes in Detroit. I believe he will sign cheap for redemption.

CB Carlos Rogers - He's 30, has bad hands, been burned often, however has a plenty of experience. I think he will sign for cheap as a back-up since he screwed up his starting role.

Jamaal Anderson - The 2007 8th overall pick got cut by Atlanta. He's known for his run stuffing than his pass rushing, however I feel that Atlanta screwed him up by telling him to gain weight and try be a DT when he was DE. Right now, he's 290 lb and should be perfect for a 3-4 DE role. His signing might be cheap since teams can label him as a 2 down DE. Still young and salvage his career back to expectation.

Possible Trade Talks:
I believe we have assets in the NT department and can get some good value for them.

Brandon McKinney is a serviceable NT and could see his stock rise to NT needy team.

Brandon McKinney and 4th round for Conner Barwin - this trade seems lopsided since Houston wants to keep Barwin as their OLB, but I think their need for NT might make them do it.

My understanding with Jamaal Anderson was that... well, he's just a bust. I remember they did start him at LDE for the first 2 years of his career. I guess ATL's FO realized they made a mistake in picking him, so they tried putting him in other spots (like DT) to see if he'd be useful there. I think he had a total of 2 sacks in his first 3 years in the NFL.

Chris Houston also got a lot of flak for always playing man coverage and always getting beat. I don't think I ever saw a play where he didn't have his back to the QB. No thanks.

I believe Carlos Rogers is very good in coverage, but he can't really do anything to take advantage of that skill. In other words, he can't catch or tackle.

I always thought that chris houston was a decent player, not a starter or anything, but a quality nickel. He's a guy that can come in cheap, but he's comming off schoulder injury.

What about a guy like Richard Mashall from the Carolina Panthers?

I agree, would much rather have Marshall than Rodgers or Houston since we blew it with Josh Wilson...
