New Number for Pryce?

12 posts in this topic

I saw in a video interview at one of the OTAs Pryce wearing the number 8. Even in the interview he mentioned how he liked having his old college number. Is this just for offseason stuff or will it be his number come gametime? any insights? I don't know what the nfl restrictions are on numbers for positions but if it's for real I can't wait to get a pryce jersey.

He couldn't wear 8 even if he wanted too, the NFL wouldn't let him

He is just wearing it for practices

Yeah, in the NFL 8 is a quarterbacks number, they would never let you go below 50 on the D-Line, I mean 50-59 is even pushing it.

It's just a number he wears in practice...just like when Deion Sanders wore #2 and Ray Lewis wore #1 in practice....I think Ray even wore the #1 in the scrimmage game vs the Redskins a couple of years ago......

he wont be able to because i remember last year Reggie Bush wanted to wear his college number 5 but the nfl wouldnt let him so he ended up with 25.

From what I recall all the LBs were single digits in scrimmages to try and mess with the opposing team films so they don't know who's actually in and who isn't.

How can they enforce that?

Couldnt the ravens just say he's their 5th string quarterback who comes in and plays D-lineman sometimes?

Thanks for the link ravensfan1996!

so would I be right in saying that a DB can come in and play running back but not reciever?

how come the NFL are so strict on Numbers? seems like a pretty trivial thing to me.

The NFL are strict on everything - they like to keep a sense of order and it keeps consistency across the league.

If you think the number rules are strict, you should see the uniform policy!

I think it's sad that the numbers 80-89 can only be used by WR's and TE's now. I liked in the 50's thorough the 70's seeing some guys with 89 on the D line.

Gino Marchetti comes to mind.......and there was a guy on the LA Rams back in the 70's who wore that number as well on the D line.....Plus I recall one of the Vikings D linemen wearing #81...can't recall if it was Carl Eller or Page.

I played one year of organized football in 1971, and was a nose tackle with #89.....

"so would I be right in saying that a DB can come in and play running back but not reciever?"

As long as you tell the ref before the play starts, anyone can be a reciever. ie when you hear the ref say "# is an eligble reciever".

I believe anyone can play any position except QB. I think before the game you need to designate an emergency QB, ie ogden couldnt line up as QB, unless designated. Not sure on that though.
