New Uni Combo

Was it just me or did we use a new color combination with our uniforms today, because I don't remember us ever having white jerseys coupled with the black pants... I really liked it, it was different. What did everyone else think?

There was a uniform thread on these message boards earlier in the year, and I admitted I liked the white or / purple on black look.
Also, during the early years 1996, the Ravens did wear the white on black a lot. Ask Vinny Testaverde and the rest of the early Ravens. This is already "old school".

Yeah, I was going to say in 97-98 we wore black pants all the time, but they were different, obviously, with stripes and they weren't all glossy like our recent blacks. I thought they looked awesome. Something about black just makes football teams look tough and fast. I am a fan of adding black wherever possible. I would love to see us wear the black jerseys with the white pants once in a while.

I liked the uni-combo as well. When I seen it first I wasn't sure if it was new or if I had just forgot what the Ravens looked like. I am a huge fan of the all black we wear on Sunday and Monday nights.

I have to disagree. The black pants we wore in 96-98 were different

It's an interesting a fairly recent development in the NFL, but it's not as simple as your question.

Early in the year, while the weather is still 80+ degrees, many teams elect to wear their white jerseys at home because they retain less heat, keeping the players cooler, and supposedly keep them significantly less fatigued. Once November rolls in we will either be in purple or black jerseys at home, and we cannot select what we wear on the road, as we have to wear the juxtaposing color of whatever the home team decides to wear.

The Dallas Cowboys are a bit of an exception. The Cowboys official home jerseys are white. The Redskins also wear white jerseys at home more often than other NFL teams (IMO this is just to piss off the Cowboys).

I thought the combo looked weird at first, but it's growing on me.

And now, to wait for EA Sports to release a software patch that updates the Ravens' new uniform combinations in Madden 09 (if the team chooses to continually mix-and-match jerseys & pants, anyway)...

[/quote] I can tell you I had a purple authentic jersey on, with a t-shirt underneath, I lost the jersey mid way through the first quarter it was awfully hot. Judging by the way the Bengal players were cramping in the 3rd and 4th, it does make a difference.

Out of the top/bottom combo's I have to say I don't like purple/black or white/black very much. Purple/white, white/white are classics. I like the black/black, black/white ALOT!

I've always said our black uni's would look better with white pants (otherwise we looks like scuba divers)

but I dunno bout the purple jerseys and black pants...that doesn't sit right...I'll reserve total judgement until I see them in action.

UM EW!. They DEF SHOULD KEEP THE BLACK JERSEY WITH THE BLACK PANTS!!. It is a KNOWN fact that all BLACK puts a bit of nervousness in another team. The Black with White pants change is going to LOOK HORRIBLE!!.. they need to change it back to the black Pants!!. And also i would like to see the OLD NUMBERS WE USED in the early 90's back on the UNI's anyone else agree there?!.

what was with the uniforms? i thought our home jerseys consisted of purple and the away jersey was white. it seemed to me that for a home game the jersey colors were backwards. can anyone tell me why?

I thought the same thing that is a new combination of the all black alternate pants and the white away jersey but you know what? I like it. Its different and its something new for a team under a new regime beginning a new era. I don't know if that will be THE home uniform this year or if it was just for the opener but I thought it was pretty unique and unmistakably Ravens. Looked good with the "GU" patch and black helmet too.

I've seen the ravens use white at home multiple times so thats not new. I think they went with the black pants for a throw back because i think it was the 100th game at M&T Bank stadium. It's like history for the short history we have

Seriously? That still didn't answer the question yeah everybody knows you wear white when its hot out at home sometimes and that if the home team is dark you go light and vice versa so L2Read and the question was "is this the home combination for the season or a one shot deal?"
