40 posts in this topic

Hensley just tweeted "#Ravens LB Terrell Suggs is sitting out most of practice after having right hamstring wrapped."

UPDATE: "Sitting Suggs is precautionary. He is still on field with hammy wrapped. #Ravens" - Hensley

I wouldn't worry about this. This stuff happens a lot when players haven't played full speed in a while. You see this a lot with rookies that are trying to keep up with the speed of pro football.

I agree, we'll have to find out more, but the problem with a hamstring pull is 1) it usually comes when a player is out of shape, and 2) it can prevent that player from practicing at full speed for a week or more. Given Suggs' history of up and down fitness, I think we should have some questions about whether or not the guy is in shape.

I think the lockout hurted him more than helped him. I hope Suggs doesn't go into his 2009 form, where he was just average.

well if he is out of shape and hurting already then we are literally out of the playoff race.

Doesn't sound too serious but I would hate to see how much our defense would fall off without Suggs. It's a scary thought.

I think since this lockout, your gonna see alot of this. Hopefully he is in shape and just pulled something. Otherwise we are screwed!

That was funny, we still made the playoffs with a 2009 Suggs.

2009 Suggs was just awful, however he picked it up in the playoffs though.

I hope this doesnt mean his fitness level is low. I know Suggs spent a lot of time working on his film career in the offseason, but I just assumed he was still keeping up with his football workouts too. I'm not too concerned about it right now but if it persists than I might begin to worry.

Suggs is one of the many Ravens that I follow on twitter and what concerns me is that I have yet to read one single tweet from him about working out during the off-season. He promoted his movie and other events but nothing about preparing for the season.

Looks like our new speed threat Torrey Smith is having leg cramps too.
[/quote]

Cramps could be fine, usually that's from simple dehydration or bad stretching that day. Glad that Suggs' hamstring wrap is only precautionary, but if it's precautionary, why? Do they anticipate a possible injury because they think he's out of shape? We need some more info from our local journos.

Hamstring pulls/tears aren't always because a player is out of shape. In Arizona, didn't Boldin pull one while streaking towards the endzone towards the end of the season?

RavensInsider Aaron Wilson
Jah Reid has jumped right in with the first-team offense at right tackle, impressive so far, stonewalled Jarret Johnson and Sergio Kindle.

Would you send a guy who "tweaked" a hammy back on to the field for "practice" and risk further, more serious injury?

Of course he is somewhat out of shape, this is why there is TC. He'll be back out there in no time, calm down.

Sorry, did I seem upset somehow? Was I typing in all caps?

The guy came in to TC (a LONGER training camp, mind you) in 2009 seriously overweight and proceeded to play like crap and get injured throughout the season. His sack numbers were so low that JJ actually led the team that year. So excuse me for having questions when the very first day of practice the dude pulls up gimpy.

I'd wait for the preseason to panic, at least. Conditioning will be a problem for a lot of guys at first. Besides, some vets like Reed aren't bothering to show up today at all.

LOL, he was injured in 2009 because Brady Quinn put his helmet into his knees. That would have injured him no matter what kind of shape he was in.

I repeat, CALM DOWN - He will be back out there in no time....

and what's your answer to my question? Would you send out a 60+Million dollar man to practice more after he just tweaked a hammy? If you have every pulled/strained your hamstring you would know that it is very easy to further aggravate. He just needs to sit, relax and let the pull or strain fade.

Suggs got a big contract in July of 09. He played pretty good last season, so one would have to assume he has matured and takes his role on the team more serious than the aforementioned season.

I was referring to the nagging shoulder issues he had that year, actually.

I don't know how to be any calmer than this. Seriously. If I was any calmer right now I'd be in a coma.

I didn't answer your question because honestly I didn't know why it was relevant. I don't question the fact that they wrapped his leg. I question the fact that they're worried about him getting injured in the first place.

And if you've been following Sizzle this offseason, I don't think you'd be so sure he's definitely been keeping his mind on football. All he's been talking about all off-season is his new entertainment company, traveling to movie award shows, and launching his first full-length film.

The shoulder he separated while sacking Kerry Collins and Ben Roethlisberger in the 2008 playoffs?
