Osi Umenyiora No Longer on Trade Block

537 posts in this topic

blessing in disguise, if we brought him in we would've ended up giving him a big contract which would mess with rice and flacco for next year. there's a few other names out there that would sign for much less, if not give faith in the youth and a re energized jj

It's not like Osi is going to show up, so this trade still might happen. The Giants are probably playing hard to get, still trying to get a 1st rounder. I still think he'll be dealt by Sunday.

I hope the G-men aren't playing these tactics. I don't think Ozzie plays those kind of games. However, he has a way of getting the players he wants.

Saying he'll never speak to the GM, holding out for a like day, and writing whining e-mails to the AP are dramatic. Plus, he already got some money. He signed a 6-year $41.4 million extension in 2005. He's set to make over $3 million this year and close to $4 million in 2012. How much more does he think he's going to get elsewhere?

He also vowed to retire in January if he's not starting. Not sure if I should take him at his word. But if that's the case, if Kindle does pan out, we'd be basically throwing away money.

Well the Osi trade now reverts back to a Madden type of trade, since that will be the only way Osi will be apart of the Ravens, on Madden 12.

Can't believe the Giants still want a 1st Round Pick, Osi is 29, will be 30 in November, and with 2 years left on his deal, that will make him 31 in his last year of the deal and nobody will want to pay for a 31 year old DE when he becomes a Free Agent.

Giants probably know that and will just keep him a Giant, over the next 2 years, Franchise Tag him afterwards, which will than make him 32 going on 33 and than for sure nobody will trade for him. Giants really screwed themselves here.

I think Osi is just the perfect answer at pass rush for us. He plays like a Raven in a Giants uniform

Honestly I'd do the same thing as Osi, if your employer/boss promised you a raise if you performed well wouldnt you hold him to it? Osi has all the reason in the world to want to make more than 3.5million a year, his deal is worth 7million over two years

His deal was $41.4M over 6 years, almost $7 million a year. He knew it was structured this way back in 2005, why is he surprised and upset now? If he was worth what he thinks he is, he'd be somewhere else. Richard Seymour got traded for a first-rounder and got a big contract.

I think what really ticked him off is that the owner and GM promised to take care of him if he had a great season and they never approached him about it.

Apparently, he thinks he's worth as much as Charles Johnson is to the Panthers. Sorry, Osi, no one's paying you that much.

Thank god Osi is out of the picture! For the sake of the future, expenses, and unproven Ravens such as Kindle, I salute Oz for not trading a first round pick. Osi is indeed a hell of a force, but let's stop dreaming people, he isn't what will help us win this year's Superbowl and the year after.

We need depth and firepower offensively, so I was wondering, if we give Ngata his long term contract, will we have enough to sign a veteran QB, and Malcolm Floyd?

If Reese thinks giving Osi this small window to get traded will satisfy his hunger of pay me or trade me, he's sorely mistaken. Like everyone else, Osi saw that he has more than a few suitors. He's just more set on getting out the door.

If you read what the issue is, the GM or whoever promised Osi they would sign him to a new deal if he performed well the next two years coming off that injury he had, and now they are backing off that and dont want to pay him. So I can see why he's upset, he has a point when he says the players take heat when they have an issue with their contract but when the team cuts a player or voids it before its up its perfectly fine and its acceptable to the media and public...thats unfair

Players don't always take the heat. When they act like a child, they might receive no sympathy but that's up to the player. Haloti is undergoing contract negotiations, he hasn't signed yet but no one is calling Ngata greedy or suggesting he is dramatic. If Osi chooses to make a scene, that's up to him.

The way I see it, is if the Ravens FO is urging Ozzie to make the deal, then they have enough confidence in his ability to play as a 3-4 / 4-3 hybrid end like Suggs AND they admittedly know more about football then we do. If they say get him, then they think he can be a good enough fit. His weakness has always been run blocking BUT he also did not have the Ravens rush defense behind him. With Ngata and Cody he is free to do one thing - rush the passer. He will have support in front of him with the D Line and behind with the LBs to not worry about run defense and just go out and be a QB assassin... I want to see that tandem so bad - Suggs and Umenyiora...wow.
ME TOO!!!

Giants RE Osi Umenyiora now claims he is sitting out training camp because of a "sore knee," and the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that the injury may require surgery.
Umenyiora is reportedly dealing with a meniscus cartilage problem. It's no secret that he wants a new contract or a trade, so Umenyiora may be milking the injury to peeve the Giants. If he indeed needs knee surgery, Umenyiora will be even harder to trade. Jason Pierre-Paul is now working as a starter in training camp, with Mathias Kiwanuka back at strong-side linebacker.

This could drop his trade value even further, now he claims he is not healthy for training camp.

This is not good for the Ravens because he needs training camp to learn the position of a 3-4 outside linebacker and the playbook.

Maybe midseason, we just snatch him for a 3rd rounder and pay him an extra 2 year $15 million dollars guarantee to make him play for us. Then by Playoff season, he might be beasting QBs. You can never have enough pass rushers.

Haha thanks. I wasn't refuting the story, just that copying and pasting segments of a story without proper citation is plagiarism and can get people in trouble.

It could be BS, ESPN is reporting Osi sitting out of practice is becoming an issue, and they need to either trade him or give him his money. Osi is 'injured'? They didnt mention that at all..he could be saying my knee is sore so he can sit out of practice

it was on ESPN2, on best of Mike and Mike just now
