Osi Umenyiora No Longer on Trade Block

537 posts in this topic

I hear Chris Mortensen on Mike and Mike in the morning say the Ravens are keeping an eye on Osi. Don't get all crazy, it sounded like it was just something they were looking at, not something they are working on. I don't know anything other than what I have read.

Apparently, Osi wants a contract extension, the Giants dont want to do that so he is going to hold out to either force a trade or get released

http://profootballzone.com/nfl/osi-umenyiora-will-hold-out/

Nothing solid...just speculation

Do you think it's worth it to pay this guy top 5 DE when he's going to be new to the 3-4 system?

that' like giving this guy $10 million dollar plus, which is a lot.

He seems like the ideal pass-rusher we so desperately need. We play enough 4-3 for Osi to to be comfortable in. Hes also athletic enough to adjust to the 3-4 as well imo.

He is pretty good, or I should say he played good in New York. I wouldn't mind having him, but he will probably want a hefty contract, but still he is good... I dunno? Is he is worth it or not at a high expense.

I don't know what he would demand in a new contract, hasn't he had some injury problems that past few years? That might take some money off the table, then again when he's healthy he's been productive so who knows.

I think signing another pass rusher of some kind is a need, it would help out the CBs too.

---- the injury i was thinking of was two years ago already....he's been healthy and hasn't really been one to have the injury bug..must be thinking of someone else on their D-line

Isn't he identical in size to Suggs? I thought they were both about 6-3ish 260-265lb range?

Yup him and Suggs are about the same size.

Yea so I don't see why people say he may not fit our scheme. Seems like a pretty good tandem to me. Throw Kindle in there who if I am not mistaken is a little smaller, and we could have a dangerous pass rush.

I think it depends on if he gets released or not. I don't see Oz giving the Giants a high draft pick for him. Plus the contract would be a huge issue as well.

I would kind of like to see fellow Giant, Mathias Kiwanuka, signed. Even though reports are he might be inked to a 1 year deal with the Giants and he is coming off an injury.

Yeah pretty much.

He isn't quite as complete a player as Suggs, but not many players in the NFL are.

You know Demarcus Ware never plays coverage as a 3-4 linebacker, so he plays a rush linebacker in all snaps.

I'm thinking that Osi Umenyiora can do some damage as a sole rush only linebacker.

We can trade for Osi Umenyiora with Paul Kruger and a 2nd round pick.

Next we sign him to a 2 year extension of 20 million dollars to put on to his final contract year, which is like 5 million dollars in 2012 and spread the cap.

Then we make Suggs do Jarret Johnson's job and make Osi just rush from any side.

Our Front Seven is going to look like:

---------------Ngata---------Cody-----------Redding-----------------
------Suggs------------Sugar------McClain----------Umenyiora---------

We all know Redding is a 2 year gap for our Arthur Jones, Pernell McPhee, and others to grow.
The Slimmer Cody and Ngata can bring the heat, I just hope they still have their strength along with their newly found speed.

Also, I assume if Osi comes to the Ravens, Jarret Johnson might have to take a pay cut or be released like the four veterans before.

It's true that it's better to have two bookend pass rushers than having two shutdown corners because pass rushers can also affect the run game by collapsing the pocket and space. Just ask the Steelers and the Raiders. Steelers were able to mask their weak secondary with their two stud bookends. Raiders had the best pass defense for years with Nnamdi and whoever (Charles Woodson, DeAngelo Hall, Stanford Routt), yet they just beat down everytime when teams decide to run down their throats. Good thing the Ravens have two run stuffers to make teams think twice to run down the middle.

I think Osi Umenyiora will be fine against the run because he can hold the point of the attack.

I've been saying that I think Ozzie decided to let Josh Wilson walk so he could spend that money on a pass rusher. I'm not saying its gonna be Osi but another pass rusher would have a bigger impact on our team dollar for dollar than any other possible position IMO.

I sure hope thats why Wilson was let go.

The pass-rush is next to nothing with everyone double teaming Suggs. This wasn't addressed in the draft, which really left me scratching my head.

Per Jamison Hensley on Twitter, the Ravens have shown preliminary interest in disgruntled Giants DE Osi Umenyiora. Details as they come. (LINK)

I would like this. Realistically, we need to improve our D-Line over our secondary IMO, and Osi would be that.

Umenyiora is only 29 and turns 30 during the season. He's still in good shape and has recovered well from his season-ending injury from a couple of years ago. As long as the price is right, I wouldn't mind bringing him on-board.

Not a big fan of this. Going on 30, only a 4-3 DE IMO, going to want a big deal, and coming off hip surgery.

Isn't Osi still under contract? Would "getting" him mean giving up some picks and/or players?

Are the ravens just interested or are they actually close to getting Osi? Could someone please clarify?
They are just kicking the tires around to see what Osi would cost and if he's worth it.

He still has 2 years on his contract. 2011: $3.125 million, 2012: $3.975 million, 2013: Free Agent. According to Rotoworld.com
