Its hard to just sit back and watch other teams spend a lot of money on big name Free Agents, but I think last year's team was perfectly capable of winning a Super Bowl.

Was the team perfect? No, but there are always going to be some weaknesses in every team. As long as we keep the core components of the team going forward and add some pieces to help we can be a Super Bowl contender for years to come. I really dont think adding one big name at the expense of others is a guaranteed Super Bowl.
I agree with you but there are alot of teams where that one free agent player is the missing piece a la T.O in Philly so I don't believe money can buy a superbowl this isnt baseball now......it def. helps

But we already signed Yanda...so in essence we are about the same team...we need to get better to win it all.
Of course you always want to make the team better, but there are parameters that you have to work within. If there was no cap it would be so much easier.

Free agency technically doesn't begin until Friday.

While teams are allowed to re-sign their own free agents and negotiate with available unrestricted free agents, no deal is official until Friday. If you've noticed, the customary flurry of big names in free agency has not occurred yet because teams are biding their time and looking to unload guys before they go on their usual spending sprees.

This not only means that there'll be plenty of big names available through next week, there'll also be new big names thrown in the mix because of cap issues.

Be patient.

Eh, we'll let it go for now. People need a place to vent, within reason.

Doesn't seem like a characteristic most on here have. Have to throw a bone at them or something.

Wait, so Holmes, Rice, D. Williams, C. Johnson, Hasselbeck, etc. aren't big names?

+1

Agreed. Even with all the offensive issues, the lack of a pass rush outside of Suggs, lapses in coverage, a horrific second half implosion, the team was a few plays away from hosting the AFC title game.

But because they haven't made the moves some people want, and have left one CB go, in just the second day of FA, the front office needs to change the way they operate...-_-

We still have several positions that need to be filled and I wouldnt say we have plenty of cap room. We have roughly 15M to spend at this point. Maybe we can get 1 big named guy and hope he is that last piece needed or we can sign a CB, a pass-rushing LB, a WR, a veteran QB, and an OT.

Actually signing Ngata will FREE UP more cap room...
ohhh...right. *backs away slowly*
No but seriously I think we're making the right moves right now. Our secondary will be solid with Smith, Foxworth, Webb, and re-signed Carr. Right now we need to focus on a Center and Fullback

Not big to us it seems I don't care about hasselback D. Williams or C.J I was hoping we would at least try for Holmes i mean he single handedely kept out of the superbowl twice in his short career. He beat us in '08 and if the Jets didn't beat the Colts we would have gone to New England and watched as Manning roughed up on the steelers....I am more than confident Manning's dominace over us in over.

I still don't really understand us letting Gaither walk... but oh well. Who needs a 6'9" prototype LT in today's NFL?

Sure, he's had health issues, but an incentive-laden contract would be perfect and solidify this O-line.

I don't know how anyone could be upset about the cuts. I can maybe understand Heap, but we drafted 2 TE's, and now we can see what they can do.

McGahee isn't worth the money.

Mason is old, and will only block the younger WR's playing time.

Gregg is nowhere near the player he used to be. It was time to move on.

Sometimes there are things we will never know. Who knows, maybe the Ravens medical staff has a qualified opinion about his injury concerns that is influencing their decision making. We just don't know.

Gaither's work ethic is what is pushing him out of Baltimore it seems. I am just sad Damien Woody is planning to retire since the Jets dont want him he would have been great for use now i hope maybe we can get one of the Falcons lineman to replace him.

I agree. Plus it will help us think outside of the box and force us to use youth. Ozzie drafts well, lets see what some of these higher picks can do. I love Mason. Hated to see him go. But bright side is, he was always clamoring for the ball. With him gone, we will be forced to used the speed of guys like D Reed or T Smith. We can't tiptoe around it.

Nobody worry. I just talked to Nnamdi and he confirmed he wants to play for the Ravens.

Oh how I would wish that was true xD

Since we're whining, I'd like to whine about the people who whine 36 hours into the new season about how we aren't doing anything. That is all.

i think its silly to not even make an attempt at a guy like Nnamdi. They guy is a game change on defense

im not upset with letting the vets go. with an elite defense you can have an offense thats good to win a ballgame.. anyone remember when Dilfer won us an SB? but we are a team that prides itself on D and to not make a play (YET!!!) for arguably the best corner in the game is mind boggling...

im waiting to see what happens but if he ends up alongside Revis, we will see our possible missed opportunity in Week 4.

if we dont land a CB then i'd like to see us make a run at OSI.

I dont see Osi being a good fit for us. And I honestly think we are pretty damn good at CB. Nnamdi is a luxury that I think we should make a play for regardless, but I wouldn't get my hopes very high on that.

The thing that I don't understand is why anyone would even expect us to go out a make a bunch of big signings in the first two days of free agency. Has that EVER been how the Ravens have operated? Look at the teams making big splashes in FA for gods sakes! Redskins? Seahawks? Carolina? Teams like New England, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Green Bay, and New Orleans have done virtually nothing besides resigning a few of their own players.

If you want excitement during the offseason go follow the Redskins. Every year they sign a ton of expensive free agents and regret it all season long as they fail every year.

The Ravens know what they're doing. I think we all would've preferred to keep Heap and Wilson but it's a business and we had a logjam at corner with several players who wanted starter's salary and a starting position. Cutting Foxworth wouldn't have made much of a difference, it would've been great if we could've replaced him with Wilson but it doesn't make financial sense.
