Jets And Nmandi..just A Question

20 posts in this topic

Can someone please clear up for me how the jets could possibly be going after nmandi from a financial point of view? i thought they were way over cap and just signed holmes, linked with moss and obviously nmandi would be looking 8+mil?? im sure they have other players they want to resign shaun ellis for example, arent they going to have to make some major cuts... i just cant get my head round how they could pay all these players when we cant...

Well the rumored short list for Aso was NYJ, Baltimore, and SF. I think we have a chance because of the reasons listed above for NYJ, SF is a losing franchise and he wants a winner, but we also have cap and financial considerations with Flacco, Rice, and Ngata due for big raises next year. The financial side of football takes the fun out of the game for us.

The jets are in worse cap shape than us and have their own huge contracts coming up. If the jets cab do it, the ravens sure can.

im not necessairly saying we should sign him, i just cant understand how the jets can when all the rumours are they are way over cap..if they can sign him we can pay josh wilson (if its not true hes gone to redskins) or we can work something out with gaither (if not oakland) or bring back mase, heap etc... for the price of nmandis salary we could bring back mase and wilson, or wilson heap.. you get the picture

I was all for Aso since the beginning but started to believe the cap hype. Seeing how the market is panning out, I think that we are the most logical choice for him. Revis will steal his thunder and he will be treated like a superstar here. NY is a tough place to play after being in Oakland. They don't take kindly to people getting top dollar and not making a ton of plays. If he comes here, then he will be the top dog. He can show Jimmy the ropes until he is ready to be second fiddle. After that, we can rest assured that our defense will be the best it can be for several years.

well see how it pans out, but if they sign him, cromartie has to be let go.. hes got off field issues, but so does j smith and that didnt put us off him, he could be a corner worth looking at

Agreed, quietly I am hoping that the releases were done to make cap room for nmandi. Ozzie plays his hand close, so it is hard to say what he is up to. Is Sydney Rice still out there or has he been swooped up? That would also be awesome!

GO RAVENS!

Wouldn't that be great, Nmandi and Sid.

Actually Nnamdi is looking to get around 20 million per year...8 million a year is real low...of course to play with NY he would likely be willing to take less money, he wants to act after his football career...He'll probably make under 20 million unless he goes to the Texans or somewhere

honestly i do believe he ends up here all the arrows point to us but if he does i believe foxworth will be cut.pagano was his db coach in oakland he is good friends with chris carr who i read an article shines about the fact he gets to play with ray lewis and ed reed and i bet hes saying same stuff to nnamdi. everyone also says he wants to play on the east coast.eagles will probably trade for rogers cromartie from cardinals. jets dont have the cap. pittsburgh is resigning ike and have to resign woodley.redskins have deangelo hall and to many other holes on there team.he wants to play for a contender be ready cause i believe hes comin.

Their GM has been known as a master of the Cap. He's a good Cap GM. Looks like the Jets would loan some cap from future years (3). Holmes contract was backloaded, his cap hit in 2011 would only be 2.5M. They've asked some Vets to take pay cuts, LT being one of them. THey plan on working on signing Harris to a deal (probably backloaded) so that would free up CAP space. They still plan on cutting some vets on top of that.

They will be able to offer Nmandi a contract but its going to have to be a nifty contract. And I am unsure if Nmandi would be willing to take it. Even if he is willing to play for less.

But the Jets by doing this would need to win this season, if they don't, it can all blow up quite quickly.

I almost (operative word) want them to sign him, then fail this year and the dwindle away to nothing for the next 3 decades again due to tons of back loaded cotracts!!!

I agree. He may be a cap master, but trying to buy your way to a championship can surely blow up in your face easily if opposing teams find their weakness. Signing 2 top CBs that command a lot of money can be a very bad thing when there's a need in other positions, like a pass rusher for NYJ. I guess they'll just blitz every down.

They will have a lot of positions with no names. But hey look at our CBs!

What happens if one of their line guys goes down with an injury in pre-season. Sorry no more CAP space.

Exactly.

Even better. We may all be LOLing in 2-3 years after all the backloading they are trying to do blows up.

Yea it'll be interesting. It hasn't ever really worked before.

I am so glad that the Cap is back. Because if this was another non-capped year. Aso would be a Jet already. We tend to play well with the Cap.

It tends to be fair with the Cap. And to think there are teams well under the Cap. I mean IIRC Tampa Bay can pick up Aso easily with the cap space they have. They sure could use him having to play against Atlanta. But whatever...
