Good point, and today is also the day that teams have too get under the 120mil cap. There could be some good players getting released.

Agreed. Our FO knows what they are doing. That's why they get paid to do what they do.

And that's why I'm also not panicked.

If this team had come off a losing season and the roster was in shambles, I'd be worried. But because there's a strong foundation and last year was a surprisingly good year in spite of inconsistencies, it's not that big of a deal to me.

The Ravens have progressed so far since the snakebitten 2007 season. The team has finally started to win games on the road, has finally established a passing game (still in progress), has finally cut down on the penalties, has finally learned to win close games, has finally had good showings on national TV, and has finally advanced to the playoffs in consecutive seasons. All that's left is to put everything together and minimize deficiencies in other areas of the team's play.

This isn't Madden, where every offseason consists of cutting a bunch of guys and signing high-powered free agents to replace them. This certainly isn't armchair quarterbacking, where a team's success can hinge upon only one or two players.

The reality of the NFL is that you take what you have, you build upon it, and you work with it. That's why the Packers won the Super Bowl. That's why the Saints won the Super Bowl. They didn't need to bring in 50 billion elite players. They just developed the guys that they had along with the free agents they signed in years past, picked up a bunch of unheralded guys who were hard workers, and played hard all year. It sounds like an idealist pipe dream, but that's the story of those championship teams and has been the story for decades in developing a Super Bowl-winning team. Simply having the best of the best, doesn't mean you'll win a championship.

I beg to differ, but we should have gone harder after Edwards considering how cheaply he signed for... very disappointed. Joe and these WRs better grow up. Fast.

How the hell are you actually a moderator with this kind of attitude? Seriously?

Because we didn't sign Malcom Floyd, the season is over? Your outcry is absolutely ridiculous.

Braylon Edwards is a bum. He's a terrible receiver who drops tons of balls, and has atrocious off-field issues. He's pretty much the exact opposite of a Raven in every way, and you want us to throw money at him?

I'm disgusted by this.

For a little comic relief, anyone else see a resemblance in Malcom Floyd and the "Mad" magazine kid?

Call me crazy, but I totally do a little bit.

I'm not too worried about this, our receivers will be just fine.

ESPN Insider's take on the signing:

"If the season started today, the Baltimore Ravens' top four wideouts would be Anquan Boldin, David Reed, Justin Harper, and Marcus Smith. As a group, they've caught 650 passes in the NFL -- every single one of them by Boldin.

Clearly, the Ravens need help here. With Malcolm Floyd going back to the San Diego Chargers, there's not much left on the free agent market. Adam Caplan of Sirius/XM Satellite Radio lists the best wide receivers left in free agency: Revised best avail WRs: Terrell Owens, Derrick Mason, Jerricho Cotchery, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Steve Smith (NYG), Mark Clayton, Chris Chambers, and Brandon Stokley.

There's also that Randy Moss fellow, unless you believe he's really retired."

They're dismissing any impact by T. Smith and Doss...

The optimism around here after every failed attempt to pick up a FA is getting a wee bit ridiculous. Get this and you can quote me, our receiving core as is won't cut it.

We don't have Peyton Manning or Tom Brady at QB. For this to work even remotely effectively Joe will have to audible in and out of plays and start signaling to his receivers, revealing things to them that they don't see at the line of scrimmage.

I stopped reading right there.

Those "insiders" need to talk to some real Ravens insiders, and find out what Doss and Torrey are doing.

I'd sooner be optimistic that Flacco and the young WRs and TEs can step up than whine and complain because a player wasn't signed.

You can feel the current WR corps can cut it, but I'm going to wait till next Thursday before making that conclusion.

A QB doesn't need to be Peyton or Brady to elevate the level of play of his receivers. Rodgers, Rivers, Brees, Ben, Eli, Schaub, and even Ryan and Freeman have done so in recent seasons. Why can't Joe do the same?

We don't even have quality depth behind Smith or Doss in case of injury which our team frequently gets hit by.

All i'm saying is Mason and Heap were our top producers last season and their gone. It's kind of crazy to expect rookies to come in this year and replace that production. I have no doubt that we will receive dividends down the line but Bottom line; how does this help us get over the Steeler hump this year?

Ultimately were pitting Experience against Inexperience in this match-up.

Where did you find this? Its pretty hilarious that they think Reed, Hardy, and Marcus Smith make up the 2-4 receivers. Just goes to show you how much ESPN Insiders know..

All jokes aside, this Malcolm kid is a waste of space. Anyone who can put people on hold and play people for fools doesn't belong in here. We don't like people who waste our time, go Ozzie!

We understand the concern, but you can't always have everything. We'll sign somebody, it's not over yet. Obviously, things aren't looking that good for our week 1 match up, considering our youth at some positions. But it will most likely be a defensive battle anyway, so we still have a decent shot. Flacco just has to make some big plays.

I think I'm relying more on Rice for this game. ;)

VERY disappointing, I feel our reporters really have not clarified this cap situation, maybe it's just me but I don't understand how we don't have cap room after 2 FA signings. I thought the cuts would've saved us a LOT

Simply Put The Ravens Were Worst Off As Far As Cap Room!!! Get Used To It Because Next Year Will Be Worst!!!

Only 6'5 receiver we have currently is James Hardy. Torrey is 6'1 and Tandon is 6'2 I believe.

Lol, your boy is with the Broncos now haha

I think realistically Hardy could make it as our #2. Good size and has experience

Having 2 vet receivers is a goal of mine (not both being possession guys) to allow the rookies to get up to speed but also remember that we are a run first team to has made comments and efforts to improve the run game this off season. I believe we will get another vet receiver as teams start making cuts but I am hoping the first focus is all O-line. I want to see a back up Center/guard and a backup/starting caliber offensive tackle first
